Power gig guitar/game bundle (PS3 and Xbox360) $25 at Big Lots

When the pickup on my Peavy acoustic/electric flaked out on me yesterday, I remembered this thread, and headed out to my Auburn, NY Big Lots to try to find myself a $25 electric guitar.

They had one PS3 bundle, that included the game, guitar, "air drums" and a mic for $40. A hair more than I wanted to spend.

BTW, I have read that this guitar is NOT compatible with Rock Band 3's Pro Mode. It is, however, a real (albeit plastic) electric guitar that you can actually plug into an amp and play.

Exact same deal for me. I stopped at Big Lots yesterday and was looking for the $25 guitar bundle. But all they had was one $40 band bundle for PS3. Not spending $40 to try out what is supposed to be a bad game. I'm sure I'd probably have regretted buying the guitar bundle for $25 anyway.

For the guitar bundle, I'll bite. Although for whatever reason, I live in an area in northern Cincinnati thats apparently 95% gamers, so Im probably out of luck at this point if they did have it.

Yeah, the one by me in Cincy had 4 360's and 5 PS3's left. I may have very well bought a $25 turd, but Im interested AND Im a huge DMB fan, so its worth it.

Nice find, OP, but it's still $20 too much for this junk. It's true that the plastic controller doubles as a real guitar, but playing it with any knowledge of music whatsoever will have you re-tuning it every five minutes. I mean, honestly. It's plastic.

The game itself is just like Rock Revolution.

I was going to ask whether it's even worth bothering as a practice/training tool but thanks for summing up how terrible the quality actually is.

Will playing the songs in-game teach you how to play them in real life? If so, I can't say no to this at $25, no matter how crappy the quality might be.

Nope, you don't play the actual notes to the song. You have five fret buttons that look exactly like those on the old Rock Band guitar, and you can hold down any of the strings to strum them. There's a Power Chord mode that lets you play some really easy, really simple power chords that sound somewhat like the chords played in the song, but there's a little rubber silencer that mutes your guitar. You can try removing the silencer and playing the game without it, but all string reverberations register as separate strums making it nearly impossible to get a good score.

It's a really horrible product. It frustrated me to no end.

Aw, that's really disappointing. I was expecting some quirks, but if it falls short on the department it was supposed to be making the stride in (stepping up from the plastic, five-button fret guitar to a "real" one), I may have to pass. Thanks for the info, Blade.

I went to the local big lots and didn't see it. I asked and it was locked in the back room. After I got it home, I found the packaging and game were both already opened.

Can't give it as a gift, if it's already opened. However from what Blade wrote, maybe it's a good thing to take it back.

What's the biggest shame with this game is that it actually had some pretty cool songs that hadn't been in other games yet...

anyone willing to pick this up for me and ship it to my wife ? my wife is in nyc while im deployed. i can reimburse via paypal =)

According to their website (so take with a grain of salt), the Power Gig guitar is compatible with the GH games starting with GH:Aerosmith and later and all the Rock Bands (except for RB3 pro mode). If the frets on this are larger than the RB and GH guitars, I might bite if I can find it for the $25 price.
Thanks, O.P.

My local Big Lots had a half-dozen "full band" bundles for Xbox 360 for $40. I was unaware it came with a microphone.

Couldn't justify the space it would take up, so I just bought some protein shakes and Honest Tea instead. Unfortunately, they were out of Blue Diamond Wasabi Soy Sauce Almonds. :(

I've been so on the fence over this. I got suckered into Rock Revolution when it was $19.99 then it dropped to $4.99 so as I thought of buying this bundle but realized its possible I'll find the guitar bundle for $15 or something. I honestly dont think its worth it.

My Big Lots just got the $40 bundles in today and I bit. I've played 3 songs with the guitar, so far and got 30pts from achievements and had fun doing it. Maybe it's my low expectations for this game that make me like it. Haven't tried the drums yet, even the drumsticks take batteries.
