Pre-Order Fable 2 to Get XBLA Title 'Fable 2 Pub Games' Free
Written Monday, July 07, 2008 by Dan Webb

As if we didn't need anymore motivation to pre-order Fable 2, now Microsoft and Lionhead Studios have teamed up to give us the chance to get our hands on a free XBLA title if we pre-order the title at participating stores.

The free XBLA will be called "Fable 2 Pub Games" and will allow gamers to gamble their in-game gold in a series of old skool pub games with a twist. The XBLA title will feature three main games modes and they will be:

 • “Keystone,” which is a combination of Craps and Roulette
 • “Spinnerbox,” which is an updated take on slot machines
 • “Fortune’s Tower,” which is a press your luck style of game.
 • The download will also include a Shell, which is a tutorial of all three games.

No word on the availability of such an offer and who the "participating" stores will be, but the good news is, if you miss out, you can purchase a copy when it hits the XBLA in August for 800MSP. A little rich maybe from first impressions, but hey, it's Fable and you can gamble your in-game gold!

In other Fable 2 news, Microsoft Games Studios and Lionhead Studios have just announced details of a limited collector’s edition of “Fable II” available for pre-order at retailers worldwide, for a suggested price of $79.99 USD.

The limited collector’s edition includes:

 • a bonus disc with a new behind-the-scenes making of video,
 • collectible Hobbe figure,
 • a LIVE trial card and additional in-game content (an Xbox LIVE account is required to access the limited collector’s edition bonus in-game content).

The “Fable II” standard addition is also available for pre-order at a suggested retail price of $59.99. “Keystone,” “Spinnerbox” and “Fortune’s Tower” will also be embedded as part of the full retail copy of “Fable II” (limited collector’s and standard editions).

There you have it, all the latest Fable 2 details. What more can you ask for... Except maybe a concrete release date? Let's hope E3 gives us that.
Apparently GS is doing this (though it hasn't been "officially" confirmed), but it seems unclear whether it's online or in-store only.

I'll update this post when more information comes out (i.e. which stores are involved).

wonder how this will work for me given I have both versions of the game preordered right now from Amazon (both appeared in my gold box deals so jumped on the opportunity)

I'll probably keep the LE and cancel the regular since I got the LE before the MSRP went up to $79.99 so I have it ordered for $66.49 :)

I'm wondering when the games will be up on XBLA, I tend to misplace shit easy so hopefully it isn't too much later than when they start giving codes out

that will be cool then, gives you about two months to rack up money before the game drops

After reading previews, this looks pretty bad honestly. I was going to proerder, but now i'm not. I'll just pick the game up cheap/trading. It looks like it'll bomb

Hopefully a demo will be released or something. I'd like to give Fable 2 a try.

I want that XBLA too. But don't want to buy the game and then return it just for it.

Well I will be jumping on this now that I have a solid release date for the XBLA I will pre-order.

It can't be as bad as Yaris so I am all in.
I pre-ordered at Amazon, dissapointing to see the "Get it on day of release" shipping option wasn't available.
Yea same here. I will probably wait a day or two and see if maybe it shows up, and then order.

Pre-ordered from Gamestop. Kinda surprised it was a $10 deposit, though.

Now to set my Outlook calendar for a reminder to pick up my pub games code.

What previews are you even reading? Every preview I've read has been positive. Especially E3 previews. I get a lot of my gaming news from 1UP, and Sam Kennedy makes it really clear that the combat system is really varied and rewarding, the game is polished, deep relationships...

But the best part of playing Fable 2 was just seeing how polished it felt. The voice acting, the story, the visuals -- they're all extremely well done. In an event with so many games all vying for attention, Fable 2 stood out in my mind as something really special.

The combat system is the only thing that makes me nervous. It sounds too simple. Then again, I don't really remember how the combat was carried out in the first game.

I do like this, though:

"Also cool is how, when you die, you don't have to replay anything -- you simply reawaken in the battle sans any of the experience you would have earned."

Considering I'm playing now, I can tell you how it was worked out. Left trigger worked for a LOZ-like 'z-targeting', the x button was attack. The b button was a sort of 'critical attack' after your combat multiplier went up. The y button was dodge or block, depending on if you were using the analog stick. If you hold the right trigger, the attack options then become your spell options. You'd be limited to four options just by the way a controller works. It sounds like the combat system will actually be similar to this but fleshed out. The rhythmic combat makes it seem like the actions will be linked together more fluidly. It was always sorta awkward to be attacking and have to use a spell in the middle of combat. Or have to use a finishing move to kill a knocked out enemy so you don't have to deal with them again, when still surrounded by a few other enemies beating on you.

I'm actually worried about this now, as I just remembered that I've had this pre-ordered for a very long time, back when the pre-order price was $49.99... I was hoping to wait another month or so to decide whether I want to keep my order, but now I'm worried that if I wait that long, they're going to send me this pub games code and either not let me cancel or charge me for the pub games. Thoughts?

I would do this, but i have a feeling this will be bad, and the preorder bonus is a way for people to buy it anyway. They seem to have focused more on an Animal Crossing than actually fighting. I'll pick it up cheaper, and buy the XBLA games if i have to (still have 2400 left from the 100 point promotion).

Okay, guys. Let's start putting up our predictions, then. There are way too many naysayers in this thread.;)

My prediction: 84%

i think it'll be better than that. i still don't see any valid reason to be worried about this game. last year, i predicted this would be GOTY... not sure how close it'll be, but i still think it will be a solid game.

One. Button. Combat. It's like God of War, except half as good (even less actually cuz GoW = win). :D

Hmm, I just put a pre-order in yesterday for Amazon so I wonder when my code will arrive? Their website says that codes won't be emailed until August 15th. Guess it makes sense they are sending them out now though since the game released today.

My code from Gamestop doesn't work... I hope they fix it soon. Apparently most people with preorders from Gamestop got codes that don't work yet.

I just tried mine from Amazon. This code is not valid. You just put it in under redeem code when you have Pub Games selected right?

You don't have to have Pub Games selected to enter the code. Just go to the Marketplace blade and hit Redeem Code. Well... that's what the instructions in the email said at least. Why do we have to try so hard for a free game? :p

Mine doesn't work from Amazon either. LAME.

No kidding right? I hope we dont have to wait until the 15th for them to work:(

Did GameCrazy get any of these codes? I know they were supposed to but, knowing the company, they probably dropped the ball on this one again.

Hmm seriously? Maybe I wait then, I think the whole pubgames thing really fell flat. Why not free for all, why not more interesting games... something.
I pre-ordered from Amazon. I will probably cancel my order after they send a code...yes, I am evil.
Will they let you?
Will they let you?
Why wouldn't they....you can always cancel stuff from them. They are pretty easy to cancel from....YMMV, but I assume they will let anyone cancel.

Because of the preorder bonus. I dont know what they would do about that, not like they can get it back from you but I dont think they are going to just give it to you for free.

Ive always had great luck with Amazon so I wouldnt wanna screw with them anyways. Maybe GameStop, not Amazon.
Got my preorder code for the pub games from amazon but I cant seem to get it to work. Anyone figure it out?
Nope. They said 24-48 hours to get them working. This is most likely just what they are saying to cover themselves.

Sooner the better. I hope the games are more fun then they look too:)

I have one from Amazon and one from Gamestop (cancelled the Gamestop one yet they still emailed me the code), and neither of them are working. Lame.

That's quite an idea, let us know if it works out.

Also, I'm assuming the codes are unique and cannot be shared, correct?

If you get one to work can I have the other?

Anyone try the Shipwreck content-sharing trick with this code yet?

Quick question: If I preorder from Amazon, and they send me the code, I will still not be charged anything until the game ships, correct? I really want Pub Games, but I will end up getting Fable 2 where ever there is a deal when it come out... And if there isn't a major deal, I'd get it from Amazon anyways.

My Amazon.com code works now. I guess just wait it out. It didn't work about 2 hours ago, and didn't work an hour ago, but works now. They must be updating them during the day.

I still haven't got my code from amazon yet. I only pre-ordered a week ago. Anyone else pre-order from amazon a week ago and get a code?
