Pre-Order Fable 2 to Get XBLA Title 'Fable 2 Pub Games' Free
Written Monday, July 07, 2008 by Dan Webb

As if we didn't need anymore motivation to pre-order Fable 2, now Microsoft and Lionhead Studios have teamed up to give us the chance to get our hands on a free XBLA title if we pre-order the title at participating stores.

The free XBLA will be called "Fable 2 Pub Games" and will allow gamers to gamble their in-game gold in a series of old skool pub games with a twist. The XBLA title will feature three main games modes and they will be:

 • “Keystone,” which is a combination of Craps and Roulette
 • “Spinnerbox,” which is an updated take on slot machines
 • “Fortune’s Tower,” which is a press your luck style of game.
 • The download will also include a Shell, which is a tutorial of all three games.

No word on the availability of such an offer and who the "participating" stores will be, but the good news is, if you miss out, you can purchase a copy when it hits the XBLA in August for 800MSP. A little rich maybe from first impressions, but hey, it's Fable and you can gamble your in-game gold!

In other Fable 2 news, Microsoft Games Studios and Lionhead Studios have just announced details of a limited collector’s edition of “Fable II” available for pre-order at retailers worldwide, for a suggested price of $79.99 USD.

The limited collector’s edition includes:

 • a bonus disc with a new behind-the-scenes making of video,
 • collectible Hobbe figure,
 • a LIVE trial card and additional in-game content (an Xbox LIVE account is required to access the limited collector’s edition bonus in-game content).

The “Fable II” standard addition is also available for pre-order at a suggested retail price of $59.99. “Keystone,” “Spinnerbox” and “Fortune’s Tower” will also be embedded as part of the full retail copy of “Fable II” (limited collector’s and standard editions).

There you have it, all the latest Fable 2 details. What more can you ask for... Except maybe a concrete release date? Let's hope E3 gives us that.
Apparently GS is doing this (though it hasn't been "officially" confirmed), but it seems unclear whether it's online or in-store only.

I'll update this post when more information comes out (i.e. which stores are involved).

I want to wait to see what other stores offers before doing this.

Maybe Target, Best Buy, Circuit City will do much better than this?

Yeah, it said that last week too. But I know some people have got there's already. I am just wondering how "limited" they are according to amazon. It's a string of 73 letters and numbers, how "limited" can it be?

When did everyone get their Amazon codes emailed to them? I only preordered like an hour ago, so I don't expect it to be immediate, but hopefully it is sometime today...

I got mine around 4:30 AM PST

It says codes will be emailed on 15th...

Anyway, I pre-ordered the Limited Edition. If BB and CC have better deals, and I can't cancel it, I probably can even sell that for more than I paid for. :p

Man Wizards Tower is kind of hard. I'm already in debt like 300 gold. Even when I play smart I always get burned. The most I've won at a time is like 30 gold.

I got my code this morning and it didn't work when I tried. Good to hear that the Amazon codes are working now though. As soon as I get off of work I'm going to have to try that out and see if mine works. I didn't even realize Amazon was running this promotion so it was a surprise to me when I got the email this morning.

Note to all who aren't getting Fable 2: Don't even bother preordering the game somewhere just to get a refund a few weeks later. The game sucks and ain't worth the effort.

Glad to know the truth has come out and been spoken. Geez other people seem to like it so far so perhaps your review is better suited in a non-deal discussion forum.

Well it is the truth that if you don't plan on buying Fable 2 then this is pretty worthless. The games aren't fun enough to play past a few minutes unless you are striving for the gold and items. I thought hey a free arcade game is a free arcade game, but this is the only exception to that rule.

Spoken like someone who never played Yaris.

Did anyone get a Circuit City code yet?

I've only tried Wizards Tower so far, and I like it. It's kind of like Black Jack with a twist, in the fact that you have to know when to hold or hit. It's pretty addictive.

If Bionic Commando wasn't released the same day I'd be pissed. At least I've got that to play until Circuit Shitty gets their ass in gear. Maybe they figured saving $10 on the MSRP means you'll forgive them for dropping the ball.

I gave in and pre-ordered Fable 2 Limited Edition off Amazon. This is the first time I've ever really wanted any Limited/Collector's Edition of any game, but this one just looks too cool to pass up. Amazon says they'll be e-mailing out the codes on the 15th, so I guess I'll just have to wait til then.

Yeah, the games are PURE luck. The only one I seem to win at is the triangle numbered one.

I stayed up late last night and downloaded the demo and the preorder code card did not work until like 9am. (PST)

i've only done the fortune one and the keystone thing. I can't stand the keystone one and the fortune one is okay. It's very boring though. I'd have been pissed if I actually paid for that. Even free I don't wanna play it lol.

When you pre-order with amazon do you have to pay the full price up front or do you pay a deposit and they delay the final charge until the game ships?
When you pre-order with amazon do you have to pay the full price up front or do you pay a deposit and they delay the final charge until the game ships?
Normally, you pay nothing at time of order and they bill you when they ship the item out.

i preordered from CC when the $10 GC AND Pub Games offer were both available on their site. still waiting for my code, anyone else got them yet?

Got nothing from GS yet. An email response I got yesterday (8.13) stated that they're still getting codes from their source and that they're sending them out as soon as they come in. Could be 24-48 hours or so.

At this point I'm annoyed with CC because I ordered when BOTH the GC and the Pub Games were listed, and yet I still have neither.

The $10 off doesn't really help, either, since I'll just pay for overnight shipping anyway. At this rate, I might as well have just pre-ordered at GS B&M. Oh, well.

The e-mail I got from CC the other day even stated that codes would go out on the 13th. I mean, it's not a huge deal, since I take it we're not missing much, but still.

I preordered the LE on GS's website last month, and I got my code last night. I hope I don't get charged because I was planning on swapping my reservation for Fallout instead, but didn't do it before the code came.

Since Circuit City is successfully disappointing those of us STILL waiting on Pub Codes (promised yesterday), if I were to pre-order on Amazon, would I get the code later that same day?

No...its taken about 3 days on average...best bet is to put $10 down towards Fable II at your local ebGamestop. The minimum pre-order amount for Fable is $10, not $5 like everything else.

For some reason I thought it was going to be a lot easier to make money to transfer to your character in fable 2. You have to be awesome and/or lucky to actually be ahead over all.

Sucks they dont have one that is like black jack. The games just get old. I had I think 600 gold that I made but owed 400 so now I'm just down to 200. They could atleast patch it with 1 or 2 other games and make the chance on the spinner a little higher. Also make it so you play from your gold once you make enough rather then having to barrow. They also need to change the odds with the tower one. I had better odds when I played the one with 4 knights and 70 numbers then I did the one with 4 knights and 53(think it was 53. it was the middle ones) numbers. That should not be. The knights should have came out more in the 53 card deck then in the 70 card deck.

Woohoo, I have about 4000 gold after the debt. But, what puzzles me a bit is the fact that you don't HAVE to pay off the debt, it's just there, while you still have you gold separate, does this mean that in the real Fable game, that if you merge the characters, You will get the gold, but have the option to pay or run away from the debt?

FYI for those interested:

The Best Buys near me just got in a ton of preorder cases and have them all on the shelf. They're $5 and have a card inside with a code for the game.

I just sent an email complaining to Amazon, because I got a reply to a message that states that the promo codes might not go out til around the 18th for those that haven't gotten them yet. Grrr.
I just got my code from CircuitCity.com so be on the look out.
Just checked it and got my as well.

These pub games are very addicting. I do not know of this cheat code and I dont think I want to find out. I'm sure it will ruin my Fable 2 experience if I collect a ton of gold.

The tower game is like black jack. You do have better odds of getting a knight in the smaller deck.

Anyone else still waiting on there code from amazon? I even cancelled and pre-ordered again to make sure and still dont have a code from them.
