Its up for pre-order on Steam now. Pretty standard affair with the 10% off. No Tax/Shipping of course which helps. Unfortunately no mention of an open beta for those that pre-order.

If you fancy a physical box its also on Amazon for the same price.

I'm glad I did too - especially since some people thought the game might be priced at $39.99 given it's multiplayer only status.

Kinda expensive for what seems to be a glorified half-life 2 mutiplayer mod, and no indication it's even at the level of Counter-strike and Team Fortress 2, both which cost a lot less.

I was one of them. I figured it would be $39.99 with a slight discount for pre-ordering but they tacked on $5 to negate that. And crap...I did not know it was multiplayer only, might cancel my order now.

it says singleplayer in the specs though i seriously doubt its story driven. The point of the game is Co-Op so you'd basically be playing yourself which defeats that.

They're showing the 360 version at $60 with a $5 instant rebate now. I pre-ordered it back when it was $54, actually in my Gold Box that day so like $51.29 or something. Think they'd give me the $5 rebate if I emailed them?

I wish I pre-ordered it at Amazon for $37. I really thought the retail price was going to be $40, oh well.

The recommended specs are not too high. Those were mid-range parts 2-3 years ago.

I have to admit I am sporting a major game boner for L4D, but you might have a point. The only info out there is some hands on previews. Still, I put a lot of trust into the quality of Valve games, and if I am going to pre-order a game from any publisher/developer it is Valve.

I think it is far more than a simple hl2 mod. It is a source engine game, yes, but they have built it from the ground up. That also means it will be highly scalable and run great and look good on a lot of systems.

My gripe is that the Steam version should have a greater discount. They need to support the users of the services with some exclusive discounts/schwag.

Yeah, would of be nice to pre-order off of amazon.

I considered it, then I read somewhere online that the price on Amazon is "only good for about an hour"... i.e. if they raise the price later, then pre-ordering would do me no good, might as well buy it closer to its release date.

Oh well. Live and learn.

if you pre-order from amazon that price is locked in. If they raise the price you arent affected. If they dropped the price further you'd automatically get that lower price. What i think you were reading, and misunderstood, was that they removed their price matching but that only effects in stock items if the price dropped after you bought it.

This might be a stupid question, but does anyone know if the 360 version will have split screen co-op for all game modes? I've been reading previews and can't tell if only 1 player can be on 1 xbox at a time (like COD4 multiplayer).

Along with the fact that they would be hosting dedicated servers for Live Gabe revealed that it would indeed have 2 player splitscreen at E3 this year.

Splitscreen play will also allow you and a friend to play together on Live from one 360, and you'll be able to slice the screen whichever way you like -- horizontally or vertically.

Just for an update, I emailed customer service and got the $5 rebate applied to my order. My order now costs $46.29 total between $6 off originally, $2.270 off from the Gold Box daily deal, and now this $5. So for anyone else, just email them and it works.
