This is still just a rumor but Kotaku is reporting that another site is claiming they have word from Sony that the rumored price drop to $100 is going to happan. However in addition this will be a new model that doesn't have the giant brick power source and instead an internal power source which both saves Sony money manufacturing but also uses 25% less power while playing.

The downside to this rumor is they claim it wont come out till early 2008 ;(

Hopefully they have the new PS2 model right but that they are wrong and Sony is going to have it finished for Christmas.

PS2 #3?

I know it might be impossible but....I hope this system is even smaller than the slim...it would make for the perfect bring anywhere system.

I agree - a smaller system at $100 would be a no-brainer buy for me. What would really be cool is if it had no loading tray so I could flush mount it inside of an arcade cabinet... hmmm....

Ya I saw people at kotaku saying they would buy it if only to have in their car.

A new model design for the PS2?! There is already a slim version, I didn't think Sony would redesign the PS2 once again.

Now I'm on the fence of either picking up a silver/satin slim PS2, the ceramic white one bundled with singstar, or wait to see what color(s) will come in for this newer model!

My brother has a black slim PS2, so maybe I'll wait and see.

If it reduces the cost of manufacturing though it might make sense. Especially since with the price drop to $100 sales will go way up.
Haven't people been predicting this imminent price drop every day for the past 6 months?
Yeah, seems a lot of people are too cheap to pay $130 for a new PS2.

Well, when I got my last one for about free(after rebates, trade ins, etc), $130 is fuckin ridiculous imo. Plus, I don't like the slim models, they seem flimsy to me.

Plus......I have a 50001 model fattie, so I don't need a slim yet. But, once it hits $50, I may bite.

i will stay with my fat model, ive had it since launch and havent had any problems with it so far.the price on the ps2 would have to drop to about $60 or so before i would consider buying another new one,id rather have a ps3 lol

I might pick this up. I got a PS3 for all my old PS2 games but I forgot I will no longer be able to play any games that aren't USB controller based for PS2 like In the Groove or all my DDR games (won't work with my dance pad)
Sounds like it's official, the "new" PStwo that is. Unfortunately, there is no confirmation of a price drop.

whoa...an internal adapter?

why aren't the companies putting that in their new gizmos

I bet $50 it comes to the stateside with a pricedrop. Sales are slagging here and Christmas is a big season. If it doesn't happen Sonys nuts....then again Sony is in the business of bad descions.

I still wish Sony would make an official CLEAR CASE system, as I think that would draw in people with a bit of the 'whoa' factor. I mean, new colors are nice and all, but really, I'd rather just a better price drop than $30 or a clear case.

I've been wanting to pick up an JP PS2 for a while now. This model seems to be the one. Somehow it's lighter, but no AC adapter. Amazing!

Somehow it looks pretty slick lol. Think it's the flat edges instead of the ridged edges that were on the fatty and original slim ps2.

Even though I have a perfectly fine ps2 that doesn't get much action anymore, I kinda wanna pick up a slim one just to touch it lol.

The only thing that worries me about the new design would be overheating due to the internal power adaptor, but if that turns out to not be a problem, I will jump all over this @ $99.
