The first was well-directed, had an interesting pace, and great puzzles... but the combat was a bore... I hope the sequel has more interesting fights, and better puzzles.
I loved the first PoP. I actually thought the combat in the first PoP was ok but I would have liked the game even more with no combat at all. Just the prince against the traps of the castle would have been fine for me. The puzzles were so well done that I kept rushing through the fights just to make it to the next puzzle area.
Having played the demo from the 2004 holiday demo disk, I have to say that I'm actually dissapointed with the direction that PoP2 seems to be going. The "darker" theme seems to be more concerned with battles than with puzzles. I could care less about wielding dual weapons (is this the new "innovation" of 2004?), I just want a good story and more awesome puzzles.
I may be reading too much into the limited play of the demo, but if this is the direction they're taking this game, I'm not interested.
I agree. The combat could get somewhat tedious and repetitive at times, but not enough so that it grinded on my nerves. The puzzles was what made the game so great, though I wouldn't go so far as to say that I would have preferred the game without any combat.
It would be great if the sequel delivers on its promise of better battles, but I hope it will still keep the same magic that the first puzzles offered.
