CAGiversary!
I finally got around to installing last month's update. I'm not connected to Live so I did it via a usb stick. The update went fine, but now my avatar is gone. If I try to customize my avatar I'm told I need to install an update. I don't care that my avatar is gone, but I'm worried that something more important may have vanished as well.
A bigger problem (though the timing may be coincidental) is Splinter Cell Convivtion. Since the update, if I try to exit to the dashboard during the game the screen will go black and the DVD drive will start to chatter loudly and incessantly. This will continue until I hit the eject button on the console, at which point the dashboard will finally appear. So far Conviction is the only game affected, but I haven't tried all my games yet.
With the these problem I figured I'd just go back to the previous dashboard. I saw an option under the internal memory (this is a Jasper unit) to remove system update. I did that, but nothing changed other than an increase in available space (227MB free to 355MB). The latest dashboard is still there and Conviction is still giving me trouble.
Anyone have any insight? What the hell did I remove from the internal memory (nothing important I hope)?
