ok i have both a sega genesis 1 and 2 and im wondering which i should keep?

im leaning toward the genesis 1, althoguh its bigger, there is an ac adapter that works for nes, snes, and genny1, so ince those 3 also use the same rf hookup i was thinking of having just 1 set of hookups and switching systems in and out.

are there any pros to the genesis 2 other than smaller size?
any cons to genesis 1?

thanks guys!

Genesis 2 supports stereo sound through your television where Genesis 1 only supports stereo sound through the option headset output, not through your tv. That's reason enough to keep it in my opinion.

i didnt think anyone would say that, you beat me to a good point, dam you
Genesis 2 is just that much sexier.

Keep both.
agreed but the triple ac dosent support genny 2 so thats a pro for genny 1

This only applies if you are planning on getting a (or have) SegaCD. The Genesis 1 version is only a 1x CD-ROM vs the Genesis/SegaCD version 2's 2x CD-ROM drive.

Though the SegaCD (ver 1) autodrive tray kicks ass :)
On the other hand, the Sega Master System converter only works on the Genesis 1. Pick your poison. :)
genny 1 wins!
i have one of those adapters somewhere...maybe?

If you ever intend on getting the Genesis Power Base Convertor (basically a gizmo that lets you play Master System games on a Genesis) you're gonna need a Genesis 1. Also, some SegaCD models are built for the underside of a Genesis 1.

However, some SegaCD units only fit on a Genesis 2, and I think the 2 is the only one that accomodates a 32X.

In other words, I say keep both.

yeah i know about the diffrent sega cd models, i like the genny 1 cd model more because the 2nd was abnoxiously long.

but man...no 32x =o\

Ok, here's the deal 32x works with both, both model CDs work with both model Systems, they were only designed to match each other. I have hooked a model 2 cd to a model one system with no problems and I have a friend who's done the opposite. The only system that's realy any different is the model 3 because it won't work with either the cd or the 32x and it has incompatibilities with certain games (virtua racing for example)

Actually, there are a handful of early games (namely EA stuff) that won't work on anything BUT a Genesis 1. Zany Golf I know has to have a Genesis 1.

Neat! I never knew that.

Actually they don't even work on all genesis 1's only the ones released before sonic 1 became the pack in game for the system. Here is a couple of ebay auctions to show the difference between the two (If you look on the top the older version 1 says "high definition graphics" on it).

Older version 1 (says high definition graphics on casing) - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=62054&item=8138464081&rd=1
newer version 1 (doesn't say high definition graphics on casing) - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=4315&item=8138516503&rd=1

The second model segacd came with an adapter to make the base as long as the genny 1, so with the base extender it will match up and look good. On almost every auction I've seen for the segacd I've not seen the extender.
