PS2 and DRE's

I had my PS2 for about 2 years and it's been giving me DRE's for while. I fixed it the first 2 times: once by cleaning the lens and another time by calibrating the voltage (had to open it up).

Well, it reads DVD based games fine (which is a relief, since most of the games are DVD based) but it won't read CD based discs (blue ones). I also tried the tape method and that didn't work either.

I know PS2's are prone to get DRE's frecuently, but is there a particular model that is less prone to DRE's? Just curiosity.

I have slim model 70001 and have beaten Okage and almost finished with Wizardry (both blue CD games) and it worked flawlessly. Wizardry supposedly is known for DRE's (not sure if that is true or not though) and my copy is used from Gamestop and has some sort of mark/scratch from the center hole and halfway up to the top part of the disc. I was worried it wouldn't work but so far it's ok.

Thanks for your replies. I've already calibrated my PS2 a couple of times and I would rather not do it again. It reads all DVD based games flawlessly but it rarely reads CD based games...it's a pain, especially since I'm about to play Growlanser Generations on it :(

I was thinking about getting a new PS2 anyway. Thanks again.
