I am looking to buy a Hard Drive for my PS2 sooner or later so it loads faster I guess and also a good thing to have anyone know where to get one cheap also delivered to Canada?



Just wondering if anyone seen any at Best Buy(BB) cause my friend works there and asked him to check so I can tell him if there is any.

Is there an actual PS2 harddrive? I thought you could use any harddrive that connects with a usb.

If you have one of the normal PS2's , you can use just about any harddrive except for Seagate i think.
 
Hey....
If your lookin for a cheapie HD for the ps2 and have the older fatter one...I know that all ebgames are selling their preowned ps2 HD's at a closeout 10 bucks each. I went there the other day to get one. Don't know if they are B&M only or also online. I personally reformatted mine, stuck it in an enclosure and use it as a storage device for my music and have it hooke d up to my 360..and better yet they are 40 gig drives.

Everyone knows about it but its not in production now and extrememly hard to get. Pretty much any Maxtor harddrive works so I would get one of them.

I knew about it, but why spend $100 on a 40 gb harddrive when you can get a 200gb harddrive for $3 after rebates.
 
Well yes, the original "official" PS2 hard drive was discontinued really quickly after its release (seeing how only a few games really used it). Now... if you have a slimline PS2, you can use a USB external hard drive, but definitely an older version PS2 with a hard drive is a lot better.

It shows some 400GB hard drives are compatible with the PS2.... only problem being that what the heck are you gonna use all of that for? If you have a modchip, you would be able to use ToxicOS to boot PS2 games off your hard drive, or you could just use HDAdvance 3.0 (which supports only up to 300gb I think) to do the same. Only problem is, is that both programs don't have 100% compatibility (the USBAdvance is even worse).

There are actually ways to modify a slimline PS2 by changing its case so that it could use a regular IDE hard drive... it's just a matter if you're willing to research that and do it.

You're close I believe it supports 345 or 375 think it's 375, but yeah so I can like really go out there and like buy any hard drive except for Seagate so what about like the size of it it has to fit the ps2? can anyone link me to a good BB link or if anyone in Canada knows Futureshop give me a link for them.
 
The Official HDD is a rarety at best. I know some USB HD's work but I don't have a compatability list at hand. Also I don't know how much faster a USB HDD would be than a CD. Also, if you buy a HD other than the official one, you'll need something to format it with. You could probably get the disc's off ebay but I say just buy HD Advanced. Added perks and it can format you HD too. Probably end up costing less and getting more out of it.

Nope. Most Seagate and Maxtor drives work flawlessly (most, not all, there's a compatability database out there somewhere). It's the Western Digitals that you flat out can't use at all due to the spacing between the power and data connectors not matching up to the Network Adapter.
 
Wow, guess I should just get the two that are on the shelf at my local T'rU. I'm looking for it to eventually play FFXI, but I recently got one of the new PS2 slimline editions. Will it work with the PS2 HDD?

No, without the Network Adapter, there's no physical way to connect it to the PStwo. You'll need to get a fat PS2 if you want to use the HDD.
