PS2 RPG

Shadow Hearts. Great characters, dark themed, humorous. Set on Earth with an alternate history (history buff).

That's a tough question ... I can't just pic one. Well here's a few of my favorite ... I know they might be considered odd but I like different games. And I'm sorry but half the time I fall asleep when playing the Final Fantasy turn based style RPGs.

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance
Drakan: The Ancients' Gates
Eternal Ring
Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel
Hungry Ghosts (Import ... sure wish the powers to be would bring this to the states)
King's Field: The Ancient City
 
shadow hearts..funny story the characters were a bit humorous and just fun to play..plus it had a cool battle system...reminded me of parasite eve in a way

and...cus i thought ffx wasnt the best...and i thought ff x-2 was more of a 12 yr old girls wet dream *sry those who liked it..just my opinon :whistle2:[* *not a flame*

Well he's got some skills, everyone in the OTT just took online picutres and cut and pasted, well excet me. As you can see I was a bit to lazy. :lol:

Yeah, I'm somewhat dissapointed. I know he can find a porn star in a Santa-like bikini or something. I'd go in the OTT, but the boy here needs the computer to do his HW, so I dont have time :(

On-topic - I suck at turn-based RPGs, so I guess those would be my least favorite.

Well then go with Star Ocean 3 and Tales of Sympbonia great non turned based RPGs and I'm sorry but sybml decided to be conservative for christmas. He did show off a pic of him and his air pistol in the OTT (I think it was this one?)

I agree, the pseudo-pop-religion background is pretty cool, and Junior is a badass.

I haven't played Shadow Hearts though, I have a feeling I'd like that one too.
 
Despite the Xenosaga fanboy inside of me, I have to say FFX, battle system was fun and quick, I played for 100 hours :shock: And what the hell's this SIII plot twist that wasn't a plot twist that you needed SII for?
 
Disgaea since it's the only RPG i've seen that has characters that go up to level 9999, actually has witty english dialogue in contrast to many rpg conversions, doesn't take itself too seriously, battle system is highly unique (can't really compare to FF Tactics since the environment in Disgaea is also an influential factor *geopanels* ), and customizing different aspects of gameplay (how strong enemies are, how powerful items can be at a store, hidden levels, etc.).
 
Shadow Hearts and Shadow Hearts: Covenant are next on my list... I have both games still sealed, can't wait to get time to play them.

It's a tie. I like Dark Cloud 2 a lot, mostly because it's about 10,000 times better than Kingdom Hearts. Then Disgaea, because it's Disgaea. And lastly, Xenosaga, because it's not Final Fantasy.

Sweet. Another Dot Hack player, I just started the first one a few days ago and I really like how they did the whole "game within a game, but not really" thing.

As for the question at hand, I actually enjoyed La Pucelle a little more than Disgaea, but even La Pucelle is #2.

Kingdom Hearts is my favorite RPG because I like action RPG's a lot more (and I haven't played Dark Cloud 2 yet).
 
Dark Cloud for sure................ probably because I haven't played Dark Cloud 2 or Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne yet...

I'm not an MMORPG fan at all, but I do like what they (is it Bandai or CyberConnect) did with the World. It seems a much more accesible MMORPG than what we currently have on the market.
 
Hmmm tough choices....

My favorite total experience was probably Xenosaga because I really got into the story and didn't want to put it down.

Most overlooked by the gaming public was Shadow Hearts 1 and Wild Arms 3, both great games which don't get enough credit.

My favorite battle system is probably Grandia Xtreme. Even though I'm currently playing through it and don't care all that much for the game as a whole, the battle system is pretty damn slick.
 
Duo_Maxwell, what's the battle system like for Wild Arms 3? More turn-based or more action/real-time based?

I've got it sitting on my shelf, but keep convincing myself I won't like it (I don't know why)..

Wild Arms 3 is turn-based... really good for traditional RPG fans.
 
I have to agree with pete, FFX has the best battle system for any turn based rpg. It was quick and added a bit of strategy to the game. As long as you didn't level up too much every battle was fun to play.

The ending was a bit confusing, I didn't completely understand what was sin. I may replay it a second time. The level of graphical realism just really drew me into the game, so that I actually felt emotion while playing the game. I can't say that for any other rpg.

Although my impressions for FFXII aren't as high. Seems like they've incorporated a lot more fantasy into the game.
