PS2 Slim problems?

Domikaze

CAGiversary!
Hey everyone. I'm looking to get myself a PS2 slim because of problems with dsc read errors on my fat one. And yes, I have tried to fix the DRE myself, and it resulted in a broken PS2 (a spare one I had).

However, I have heard that the slim ps2s have DRE as well and problems with overheating. Alteast on certain models. If anyone could shed some light on this, including what model to get, I would apprieciate it! Thanks!

the first batches or two of the slim ones where bad

I've had the slim since it's NA launch and haven't had a single issue with it. It does feel warm to the touch after playing for a while, but it's nothing to get concerned over. The only issue I did remember was a power supply recall for some of the early models, but that's all I knew of.

Only problem I've had with my slim was that it would heat up really quickly but I found out it was because I left it ontop of the xbox lol

I suggest getting one but not doing what I did (and you might as well get the silver...mmm silver)

On my PS2, every now and then the controller port (1) doesn't work. I've purchased new controllers and nothing. I don't know if this is very common.

I missed my chance...

Anyhow, I got my slim about 6 months into it's existance and never had an issue with it. They're dead sexy.

Dunno, I never tried to run mine that way. Seems like gravity would no longer be helping the disc stay in place if you run it vertically which could wear out internal parts more quickly.

The slim PS2s are amazing hardware. Buy one immediately. I've had one for almost 2 years now that I bought second hand off some random person for $50 and it works like a champ.
On Amazon, there are several PS2 slims with different dates on them. Sept. 2006 Oct, 2006 July 2007? Anyone know what it means?
Different models of the slimline version. Look up PS2 on Wikipedia and it'll tell you the differences between them.
