I saw these at a few stores I stopped by yesterday for $9.99. I'd bite for $4.99, but gonna pass at $9.99. These originally retailed for $39.99. If you don't already have a component cable for your PS2, this is a cheap enough way to get a new one. I read up on some reviews, and it does help with the sharpness, but it shrinks the viewing area, if I read correctly.

This is very useful if your TV has problems displaying the sub-480i resolution that some PS2 games use. My TV makes some games look like a jagged mess through component cables, but games that run at a full 480i or have a progressive scan option are fine.

In any case, a cheap way to fix that resolution flaw and enable progressive scan for games that don't support it if you don't have a PS3.

Think I have the older version of this program from the same company...

Anyway, I used mine with a VGA adapter to display my ps2 in 640x480 (480p). It looked better on the monitor than what my video input card did to the composite signal, so I was happy. For whatever reason, a nice feature about running it through VGA in that resolution was that I didn't get any nasty streatching from my monitor, which is widescreen.

As long as you don't expect your ps2 games to look like they're being upscaled by a $1,000 receiver to 720p or 1080p, I'd say $10 is a good price for what you get: an easy way to upscale games from lower resolutions to 480p, so they look a little better on high resolution displays. I don't have a real HDTV (just a ~720p computer monitor I run everything through) so I can't give you any impressions on how well it works with one of those.

The negative reviews are bullshit. I have the thing. It's crap if you're trying to use it for 720P and 1080i which comes as no surprise since the games were never designed for such high resolutions

If you are simply using it to force 480P instead of 480i the things a miracle worker. On my parent's 40 inch LCD PS2 games look like a jagged mess until I use this thing and it clears everything right up.

Just a note on compatibility, the games it works on work great. but some games it creates some odd quirks with. Xenosaga episode 1 works great with it...until it crashes randomly. and Rogue Galaxy has some odd speed issues when using the thing. But those are the only games I've had a problem with, and I have over 60 PS2 games.

Some game I highly recommend it for because of increased quality are Mercenaries, Persona 3, and Tales of the Abyss. Those games had a highly noticable spike in quality.
is there a link the to item on gamestop's page itself? I was looking for one of these
I've only seen it B&M. And I know I definitely saw it at 2, possibly 3 stores. I might have to reconsider this, but I still don't think these are going anywhere. I might be able to wait until a further price drop.
was wondering how this would work for non-widescreen supported games do they still look ugly? most of my games didn't look to good on my 720p HDTV. I found a review with screenshots comparisons although it seems a bit of a hassle just to go through?

As previously stated this just helps in making 480i games 480p, so widescreen or not won't make any difference. Your TV should have options to center the games if they look bad streched.

I have one of these and use it on my VGA monitor and some games look noticably better than my S-Video TV, some games look slightly better, and some games don't work at all. Even on 480p a lot of games won't quite fill the entire screen (on my monitor anyway) and most need screen adjustments to fit best (but that's also true when switching from one console to another on my monitor).

I'm thinking about getting this product. One quick question though: Does anyone know if this software will allow you to play PAL PS2 games on a US PS2 system & on a US TV set?
