PS3 availability?

CAGiversary!
After watching the God of War 3 preview on GTTV, I'm having another round of "dang, i just gotta get a PS3 now".

I checked Amazon, Gamestop and Best Buy and nobody has PS3's in stock online. I heard about limited availability, but this got me thinking. What's going on here? Usually this only happens when there is a change in either hardware or pack-in's. Could this be a lead up to E3?

What are the rumors on this? I'm wondering if I should pick one up at Target if I see it or wait until E3 rolls around. Ooh, maybe another price drop is on the way. Unlikely, though.

Yeah, but not expected to ship for 1-2 months at Amazon.

There's absolutely no way Sony is going to do another price drop. They're STILL losing money on the Slim ($18 per unit) and it's at a very reasonable price point now.

Price drop isn't going to happen, since Sony is selling plenty at $300. Sony have stated that they had trouble producing enough to meet demand, and you can take it or leave it, but anything anyone tells you that's different is just pure conjecture.

Got news at work not too long ago Sony was having hard drive supply issues and inventory across the board would be light for bit. No idea when it will end.

Well, that's why I started this thread. To get whatever rumors were circling out there. I don't expect a price drop. But, I did remember reading about two new SKU's being registered. That news item was about two weeks ago. I wondering if a new bundle was on the way or something.

It was the same thing with the PS1, and look at the success. Their 'motto' was/is, "if you want to sell blades, you have to give away the razors".

If we start seeing more and more PS3 games fly off the shelf like this, I can see Sony dropping it to $250. This would pretty much secure their place in the market, and knock MS out of the way. $200 for a 360, plus $150 for mandatory accessories and the cost of buying a new one every 3 years, OR, a PS3 for $250. I wouldn't be surprised if Sony did it, and it would certainly put them on top.

Anyway, OP, I had no idea that PS3s were so hard to find. They seem to be at all the B&M stores I shop at. But then again, I live in Champaign right now, and there isn't a Wii within 50 miles. But back at home in Waukegan, there's a pallet of about 100 Wiis sitting at the Best Buy.
