(PS3) DC Universe Online $15.89 on Amazon.com (new)

i believe it comes with a month of premium and you may be upgraded to legendary or some crap like that.

you get more crap for being a legend and you can only earn trophies during premium time.

for those who don't get it, this game is free to play and you can just download the whole thing on PSN even without Plus hahahahaha

yeah I think this is what Krayzie meant but I guess people didn't know this game is free

You actually have to install it either way so buying this disc won't save you any space. FYI the updates take forever which is why I stopped playing.

The only reason I can imagine people would want to purchase this rather than download is to avoid the time necessary to download the enormous amount of data necessary. Or people with small bandwidth caps.

Personally, I was downloading this overnight a few months ago on my 60GB launch PS3. It ylod 15 minutes after it finished downloading...

I thought this was for the CE with the statue. No reason to get it otherwise since it's free.

Pretty sure it redownloads the whole thing anyways. I gave my old disc to a friend and he said even with the disc it had to download for him over night.

HUGEEEE once download the game there is like 15GB+ update its insane.

There is literally no reason to buy this except for the free month premium. You still have to download/install it to your HDD and it takes just as long.

Yep, it does NOT install from disc. Even at launch i'm pretty sure it simply started the download for you.

It is a pretty fun game though. I had to delete it eventually but its great for F2P. The only real reason to pay is being able to hold more money and get trophies. I think they really bottleneck you eventually though, as the small amount of money you can hold becomes an issue.

This. Disk doesn't do anything. The install and updates are huge.

A lot of stores must've not gotten the memo that this game has been F2P for a long time now since I'm still seeing regular copies of the game in stock. They really should pull those copies off the shelves since it requires online to play anyways.

Had a feeling. I am not sure about the month free still being good but a month is 14.99 anyways so unless you really want the case on your shelf then you should pass on this.

If you want to play the game I suggest downloading before you go to sleep. Also be sure to open the app for the actually game to do the download. The PS store is just the client, you have to open it for it to actually download.

This game is free to play on steam http://store.steampowered.com/app/24200/
But free players are very limited. If you buy this on ps3 you dont become legendary but I do think you get a premium status that lets you do some basic shit like trade items and have a higher money cap that free players do not get.

Still you;d be better off downloading it for free and using the money for the DLC packs.

the reason to get it it is trophies bc simply downloading the free to play version wont get you that

Buying this will only get you trophies for a month, though. You need to be Legendary to get trophies. Rather than pay $15.89 for the 'free' 1 month, you could just buy 1 month for $15 for Legendary access. Or, even better, play for free (trophies are unlocked in the background) and then go Legendary for a month in the future if you really want all of your trophies.

Regarding installing, it IS possible to install based off the disc, but then:

  1. You still need to download several GBs of update data (I'd guess at least 5 GBs at this point)
  2. You will need to use the disc to play.
It's better to just download everything and then you aren't tied to the disc. The disc-based install saves you absolutely zero disc space. (For those asking, I haven't checked in months, but it used to take up ~20 GB).

Also, just an FYI, all updates are delivered through the DCUO client; i.e., it does not use the native PSN update infrastructure. So all updates are delivered interactively and cannot be done in the background (like MAG).

I played for a few months shortly after release. It's the only MMO I've really played. It was pretty fun, but I didn't game enough to justify the cost.

Thanks. I thought those that already owned the disc had access to trophies and it was the F2P owners that had to pay for additional stuff to get that

That's an expensive frisbee. I can't even justify using the hard drive space to download this game. It was interesting, but I couldn't get into it when it was released

Like others have said, it's really good for a F2P but I'd have been pissed had I bought it at launch. And after playing it, I have no real motivation to buy/subscribe for trophies. Even with a fast connection, like others have said, the time it takes to update this game is prohibitive. I could never get anyone on my friends list to bother trying to play it. We'd have to spend anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour on an update and by that time we could've jumped into a game of BF3 or LBP or something.

a lot. I downloaded it and it took forever (not kidding nearly two days) but that has more to do with Sony and it's tendency to crash on install.
The game is not very good and it will take pretty much whatever resources you have left.
Making a character is fun, everything else is kind of terrible.
