Game *SAVE* DRM is among the stupidest concepts ever created.

From what I can tell, it's afflicted the Wii the worst by far. Playstation 3 next, and Xbox least, though it's got some too. *STUPID* As though the crap activation on console download stores isn't bad enough.

I have a question about the ticker. Can I do anything with this information they keep streaming to me? It seems like if they tell me about a demo or a show I should be able to click a button and be taken there. If not then that ticker is the dumbest thing ever.

i have been trying to download the just cause demo a few times. it always stops at 82% (1185mb). i think i had a similar problem on avp, but i gave up.

the network and hdd light are still flashing and it hasn't errored, but it stops a 82% and then does nothing. i deleted it once and restarted it and the same thing. any ideas?

I just bought a ps3 on craigslist. Don't worry, it was cheap. The problem is when I turn it on it starts to load the XMB, but doesn't load anything but the user sercion. Then, within about 30 seconds, it puts up the 'the system as become hot' message and shuts down. Is there any point to me taking it apart to try to fix it, or should I just flip it on ebay? I haven't been able to find much info about this type of error.

I looked a little online for this one and it looks like the problem might be that your fan isn't functioning. Can you tell when you heat it up if the fan is running?

That's what I forgot to mention. Right before it shuts off the fan goes to level three or whatever (it sounds like a jet engine) and then it shuts off.

Any recommend exteral hard drives for use with the 60GB PS3? I know it has to be FAT 32 formatted. Just wondering if there are any particular ones that work best. It's going to be used for playing videos. 5400 or 7200 RPM, ect. Any size limitations. That kind of stuff. Thanks for any help.

I didn't want to make a new thread for this so I'll post here.

I have a panasonic viera TC-32LX1 that I use with my PS3 in 720p. It looks fantastic playing blu-rays, and looks very nice on the PS3 as well, but I get jagged edges. I realize some of the jaggies come from the games, but I get them on most games, some more noticeable than others. Uncharted 2 is one that had a pretty noticeable amount, and I know it shouldn't.

The TVs native resolution is 1,366 x 768, is that what the problem is? And if so, is there really anything I can do about it? I have my sharpness all the way down to 0 and my PS3 is set for 720p.
What is best for cleaning a blu-ray? Just some slight smudging, so I am guessing any CD cleaning cloth is good enough?
Microfiber cloth with some eye glass cleaner, is what I use and it works perfect. Distilled water I believe works too. Make sure not to use a cloth that collects lint.

I think they are, I don't see why not. Some people do full drive backups to get their protected saves carried over to a new drive I'm pretty sure.

good to know. long story short my ps3 died the other day so im trying to figure out how im going to get all my saves. im attempting to do the fix on it and if i can pull it off cool but if not im hoping i can just get a slim and switch up the drives get all the stuff i need off of it onto a harddrive and then replace the harddrive. can someone tell me if this will work ?
No, it won't.
can you be more specific? and could i do the switch with another older model console?

When you put a hard drive in a PS3 it'll want to format it unless the hard drive was already formatted for that specific PS3. Doesn't matter if you're putting a drive from a 60 to a 60 or a slim to a slim. I don't know if it's been officially stated, but it seems as though each hard drive is encrypted a specific PS3.

You also can't put the hard drive in an enclosure and hook it up to your computer to recover the saves. As far as I know, no one has broken the encryption/type of file system it uses so it won't show up as a readable/writable drive if you do it. It'll just appear as an unformatted drive.

If you can't get the fix to work you're pretty much screwed when it comes to getting your saves.
Can he send it for repair without the HDD?
The only way it would work out for him is if he got the same PS3 back and not another system.

dam i was worried that that may be the case. an eclosure was going to be my next choice if the fix didnt work sadly enough im more worried about my saves than the system at least i uploaded my trophies after i got my gow 3 platinum so those i dont need to worry about. thanks for the info everyone .

even if the fix doesnt hold if i can just get it up and running long enough to get my saves id be happy.

also for anyone who has done the fix what kind of thermal compound did you use. i saw something at best buy called dynex. would that be ok or is there a specific brand people consider the best to use for this situation?

How do i transfer photos/music to my PS3 using a USB flash drive? Ive tried a few times now, inside their folders, and outside any folders and it keeps saying none were found.

Should work fine as long as you goto each representative section on the XMB. You have to be under music for music to show up etc. They will say none found if you look for music when you're under video on xmb. I had the same problem the first time I used usb.

Are you just clicking on the flash drive icon or pushing triangle and clicking Display All? The latter shows all of the folder as they're actually set-up on the device while the former assumes you have a default named like it's expecting.

I didnt know i could press triangle and display all. But my theory of using a folder that was labeled "Music" worked for it to find songs on my USB. "Photo" however didnt. But with triangle options i can see them all. Thanks.

Dumb question. Got bored and bought and downloaded Burnout Paradise pack with the extra island. Downloaded and installed fine. Went to play the game and I dont see any extra island or anything.

I dont get online with my ps3 much so wtf did I do wrong or what am I missing?

I went to turn my PS3 on and wasn't getting video or sound. I pushed in the component plugs. It was working but then stopped when I touched another plug. I put my component cable in and don't get video or sound with them either. Is it my PS3 (it did travel in a bag from my house to my dorm)? Is there a way to change the video to composite without doing it on the Menu (since I can't see the menu).

Hold down the power button until it starts up and beeps (should be five seconds or so). It'll reset and auto detect video settings.

They ought to practically print that on the bottom of the system or something  Easy enough to do, but not intuitive. The Xbox does a better job with changing inputs. Not sure you can confuse it to the point it won't work.

Thanks. My component cables now work, too.
The island should be on the right, over a bridge. Is there nothing there?

Wow...definately not showing up.

The more I thought about it the more I realized its probably my own damn fault. At this point Ill assume that the island add on doesnt work if you bought the game via PSN store and download etc etc....

Thinking since I thought it was a disc based add on etc but then I remembered when I bought the motorcycles or one of the cars etc...that showed up and worked fine.

Is your copy of Burnout fully updated? The DLC itself should be in one of the updates so that the add-on just unlocks it for you to access in your own game.

Just out of curiousity how do you fix that on 360 - can you just move the switch on the cable? I would assume you can and that is definitely a plus, although I did remember the PS3's way of doing it from when I read the manual and prefer that as long as I remember - don't have to go behind the tv stand and mess with the cables.

I googled it and came across this which sounds even less intuitive. http://cocaman.ch/wp/2006/12/reset-xbox360-resolution/
I can remember how bad PS2 was where you were shit out of luck once you screwed it up, you had to follow the 2nd method they give for the 360 in that article, i.e. blind inputting.

Yeah, I guess if you're using that cable you can flick the switch. Otherwise like if you switch from VGA to HDMI to component or even between two TVs with different resolutions on the same port, it seems to be smart enough about how it handles that in software.

Makes sense since they do the same thing in Windows-might even just copy the same code over!

Thought maybe there are situations that confuse it, as per that link? (Or maybe it didn't used to do it in software? Or maybe it can only autosense on like VGA and HDMI?)

A system that's REALLY hard to adjust is the Playstation 2. I was NEVER able to figure out how to smoothly switch it back and forth between progressive scan and interlaced. My new one I just have it left as interlaced, as my older one I never figured out how it get it back...seemed like alchemy  I love that the new systems it's just 'select it from a menu'!

That..Im not so sure how to tell if the version I have is the latest. I dont have the net connection to hook my ps3 up at home so I usually have to take it to a friends etc etc.

Ill assume its not because Ive gone through the list and downloaded and gotten the install completed message etc etc. and its still not showing up for me.

The date I downloaded Burnout, the island DLC was already out.

I guess with PS2 you must have to switch it from composite to component and then switch the cables afterwards. PS2 used the technical term Y Cb/Pb Cr/Pr. All I remember though is changing it one time and forgetting where I put the composite cable and having no image then having to blindly change it back. Not fun. I can't remember which cable I last used and I think at least 2 of my games (Ico, Disgaea 2) might not run in component.

Don't know if anyone would know what the problem might be or not. The last week or two my PS3 has been downloading stuff from the playstation store REALLLLLLLLY slowly. How slowly? I set a bunch of stuff to download overnight and by next morning the first file was only halfway done (about 100mb out of 200). It didn't use to be this slow. Any idea what might be causing it?

You using wireless?
Try using wired if possible.
Try rebooting your router.
Try changing the wireless channel on your router.
Try putting the PS3 in the DMZ.
I used to host the Warhawk server over wireless without any issues when all of a sudden everyone started getting ridiculous lag. Switching to wired fixed it. Never did figure out what caused it and haven't tried going back to wireless.

Yes , using wireless. Going wired isn't possible in my current place without running cables everywhere. Have my laptop , 360 and wii setup to use the wireless as well , and although the 360 has been having a bit of a lag problem recently it's still playable and downloads aren't crippled like the problems that the PS3 is having.

Rebooting the router I might try , as well as changing the channel.
What is the DMZ?
What is the DMZ?
Demilitarized Zone... basically means it makes the router completely transparent to the PS3. It's not behind a firewall or anything, it'd be like plugging the PS3 directly into the modem in terms of security.

Is there really any reason for me to sell my 40GB PS3 console and buy a slim? For some reason I'm itching to buy a slim and the money is burning a hole in my pocket. The storage isn't an issue, so is there any reason I should want a slim?

So my 80gig has broke for the second time in a year now. I called sony and of course its most likely a problem with the drive/laser $150 plus shipping to fix it again. So annoying seeing as I just bought 5 new games and have not even got to play a single one! My question is should I fix this lemon again and keep it and hope for the best or just look at selling it and buy a new slim? Is the slims laser/ blu-ray drives more reliable or what? any thoughts comments or advice is most welcome Thanks!

Personally I'd see if Gamestop would give my credit (just be upfront with them about whatever's wrong-they may still give you $50-did for my broken Falcon Xbox a few months ago)-and then buy a new one.

But I just don't like throwing good money after bad.

So I finally purchased a PS3. Received it on Monday. Watched three movies today totalling about 5 hours over an 11 hour span. So there were substantial breaks in between. The third DVD would not eject. It was just making noise. Tried turning it off and on. Nothing worked. Eventually got it out. Is this is sign of things to come or if it is fine now should it be okay in most circumstances? Thanks

Is there any way to get Sony yo deactivate my PS3 accounts? I am up to the 5 limit but 2 of those are systems that broke and I got rid of.
