I got Sonic the hedgehog for the PS3 today. MAN that game burns. WHY didn't I listen to the reviews? Why was my morbid curiosity so high to sample this shit sandwich?
Dude I TOLD you! Why didn't you listen to me?!
Dude I TOLD you! Why didn't you listen to me?!
I was curious. You can't hold that against me. It's like telling me that's the world's worst movie and not letting me see it.
Cutthroat Island is the world's worst movie. But you're not allowed to see it.
You're 12 years too late for that one XD
Gamefly is your friend in these cases - it was designed to satiate one's morbid palette =P
I don't like renting too much. I prefer owning. Even if it is a piece of shit.

Hi all,

I was interested in getting into Blu-Ray and was planning on getting a PS3 to watch movies on. I already have an 360 that I am addicted to for playing games, so I don't know how much I would play a PS3.

Anyway, My wife got the Insignia Blu-Ray Player for me at Best Buy for $279...which looking around seems like a pretty good price for a machine with good reviews...

Question: What do you all think about trading it in and paying another $120 for a PS3 40GB vs just keeping it. I was thinking that the PS3 would be better because it could do more than just play movies, but I am not sure how much I would use it given that I have a 360...

Opinions please and thank you.

Yes definitely trade it back for a PS3. That brand is not good and also ps3 is a better blu ray player because you can go online and update the blu ray with more features. Also you can play great games like MGS 4,uncharted,resistance and tons more. There are some greatest hits titles now for only $30 so you may want to look into that as well.

I just got it to plya MGS4.
but not im just using it for bluray.
if your gona use it for bluray, go for it.
for game,,,,i will go with xbox.

This is a NO BRAINER. Get the PS3. Sony has SEVERAL GREAT games that are not even made for the 360 like Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, Heavenly Sword, Resistance(NUMBER 1 and 2), MGS4, etc..

Easily justified.. Plus the brand of blu ray player your wife got (sorry) is a real cheap brand not known for quality...

Good luck !

There's other games to get depending on what genre he likes. ps3 got the better lineup this fall and the future.

I had a 60gb PS3 got rid of it because it was too loud and hot (could not even make it through a blu-ray movie w/out shutting down). Got the 40gb LE MGS4 Gun Metal Gray PS3 at a "tremdous discount." Love it. Quiet, cool, best of all I use it as my media server. Replaced the 40gb Hitachi HD with a 250gb Western Digital Scorpio for $84. I am not a gamer. In my opinion, however, it is truely an impressive piece if equipment.

Now is a good time to get a PS3. They just came out with the GH line, so you can play several good games for cheap. It has a handful of (IMO) must play titles. Several big games are coming out within the next few months. Plus you don't have to deal with a broken ass online system now that 2.4 came out. I say go for it. It's a blu-ray player as well, so you get that aspect of it. I would say go for it.

I got a PS3 with metal gear, and it's okay. I would say wait if you've already got a 360. I have both and kinda wish I only had the 360, due to the cost involved. It's a nice luxury to have both, but who really has time? Plus the 360 is just a better pure gaming device.

I'm a new PS3 owner myself. I enjoy the system. It has some extra features that might be of interest if you are considering it as a replacement blu-ray player.

You can store video files on it, and except for a few random videos it seems to be able to play everything I felt like putting on it. So it can act as a media player for a lot of the videos you might have on your computer. It can also store and play music and photos.

If you really don't see yourself using it for games I would just save the extra money it would cost to get one and use that money for something else.

I like my PS3, and it has a lot of neat built in features, but it is a game machine. If you are not going to get it for games you might as well stick with your current blu-ray player.

Get a PS3. I talked so much shit about it back in 2006 (no games. blu-ray? meh. stupid online store. no games. expensive) and now I am HAPPILY eating my words, especially after Microsoft's executives spit in our face at E3. I feel like Sony is the only console manufacturer that truly gives a shit about the hardcore crowd anymore.

god of war 3 will eventually come out. that's all you need to know before deciding to buy a ps3.

the fact that you can also put video/music/photos on it is also nice and makes it a decent media center. of course, you can always stream things to your xbox, so it's not that marvelous. it's just nice that you can leave them on the hard drive without having to go through any extra steps

you wasted 279.99... trade it in, pay the 120, and pick up a PS3; you're getting a better deal. Even if you just use it as a blu ray player, or just to play music and watch movies in your living room, or whatever room you put it in.

Don't use the PS3 for games.. if you have problems with your 360 then just use the PS3 as a backup system, rent some games to get you through. Or, just play the system for its exclusives.

My family just bought a new HDTV, we wanted a blu-ray player and we got the PS3, loving it so far, my parents love watching youtube videos on the tv, they never liked it on my PC, I'm also loving the remote play feature for the psp.

For some odd reason my 60GB :ps3:'s bluetooth stopped working altogether. I had a Motorola registered on the system (since last year) and it always worked great, then all the sudden after the most recent update I noticed the headset wasn't working when playing MGO, and I couldn't register the Jabra that came with the Warhawk bundle I got. Then I deleted the Motorola off the system and tried to re-register that but it wouldn't work either. Was reading around on the Playstation.com forums and have heard other obscure problems like no sound for BD games, but BD movies, PSN, CD-Rom & DVD games work fine.

How are you playing MGO if your bluetooth doesn't work? The controllers use bluetooth to communicate. It's probably just a compatibility issue with your headset. I've heard tons of reports of motorola headsets not working properly.

Motorolla headsets always have PS3 issues, from what I've heard, which is why people say go with Plantronics or Jabra. The Warhawk headset (from what some have tested) does not work in some apartment buildings, but works fine in a house (always been that way, but I haven't seen if anyone got it to work in an apartment (well, registering it I mean)).

Hey all. I decided that I'd complete my console collection with a PS3. Previously it really didn't impress me, but with the game lineup I've seen, and my new LCD waiting to be used for Blu-Ray, it's looking better and better. I'm going to attempt to pick one up sometime this week (MGS4 Bundle), and had a couple questions.

1) What is the likelyhood of hardware BC coming back? I don't want the 80 gig that will be coming out next month, which is why I'm making the plunge now (wish I would have gotten in during the 60). What do you guys think are the chances of a new version coming out later with all the features added back in? I'm thinking low since they are dropping prices and such, but I figured i'd ask.

2) What is the easiest place to find a MGS bundle? Most places around me are sold out, except for a few far away. I called Gamestop and they said they get weekly shipments, so I could just keep calling them. A Wal-Mart near me, however, has a couple in stock. It's a pretty shady Wal-Mart, however, and they have a really lax return policy. I'd be afraid someone could have opened the box, switched consoles, and returned it (I've heard of it happening to 360's). Seems like slightly less of a problem at a place that has some semi-competent workers like Gamestop.

3) What games would you recommend I start with? I'm going to try to pick up Motorstorm and Resistance with the K-Mart coupons, so those may hold me over until Resistance 2. Any other games worth picking up along with those few? (I have a 360 with quite a few games, so preferrably the non cross-platform ones, as I have many of the good ones).

If this belongs in the general PS3 thread, please merge it. And thank you everyone for your help in advance!

Well to start off I have no answer for your first question. For the second question i saw a couple at my local Circuit City, but I'm not sure if its still there. If your willing to buy it online Amazon still has some in stock. As for your third question the games i would prefer would be MGS4 (most likely you will get this anyway if your looking for a MGS bundle) and Warhawk if you enjoy multiplayer games. I'm sure there are a bunch other good games but these are the only two i actually bought since I mainly got my ps3 for rpgs, which hasn't been much great out recently :/.

1) I'd say backwards compatibility will not be getting any better with the release of the 80 and future skus.

2) Just get it at Wal-Mart and check to make sure the serial numbers match.

3) If you like adventure/3rd person shooter games get Uncharted. If you like action/platformers get Ratchet and Clank.

1) Hardware BC is NEVER coming back, ever. It's just WAY too costly to implement again, and all the components to make it happen are done with. 80GB is still REALLY good. Regardless of SKU, you'll never get perfect BC because firmware updates and help, and hurt compatability.

2) Places like Wal-Mart and Best Buy is where I normally see the bundle at. Sometimes Target. They aren't too hard to find, the MGS4 bundle.

3) Games like Warhawk, Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank Future: ToD, Hot Shots Golf: OoB, Folklore, etc. are pretty good. There are also some great PSN games like SSD HD, PixelJunk Monsters, Siren: BC, Tekken 5: DR Online, etc.

I am a big fan of Uncharted and GTA4. I like the types of games where I can see my character walk around on screen. I don't like games like Battlefield where I can't see myself.

Can anyone recommend any games that are similar in feel or style to Uncharted or GTA4? They don't have to be mindblowingly awesome games. Just something decent where I can see my character on the screen.

Thanks in advance for any help.

"Stranglehold" is cool albeit WAY shorter then it should be. It's definitely best to try and find the CE new for $20 as I think that would be a more fitting price then $30.
Oh and WHO deleted this thrillednchilled's thread or "merged" it as some of you like to say. I wouldn't begrudge closing it if you felt it was redundant but deleting it and treating it like it never existed is ridiculous! I had the same thing happen, though what I believe to be a more valid topic asking about if the HD Horrorfest offerings from Lion's Gate were good Horror or just Gore Porn. Well one of the mods in the 360 forum just deleted it like a jackass instead of curtiously closing/locking it. Who were THEY to make such a SUPREME judgement without my permission?!
edit: If it wasn't for me seeing Jest's comment as the last in here and me assuming and deciding to take a look I would have never known if it was deleted completely or merged. I highly suspect the forum happened to mine.

I have one of the 60gb PS3. Recently, playing COD4 or MGS4 started freezing the console. The screen would shake a for a ms and freeze, but the sound keeps playing. The console becomes completely unresponsive.

I tried reformats, etc thinking maybe it's the harddrive and tried my disc on a different ps3 hoping it's the discs. Wrong on both. I believe it's an overheating issue because it froze playing a demo straight from the hd. Also, (maybe it's a bug on Top Spin?) the red shirt Federer wears started stretching out all over screen like when a computer graphics starts to overheat.

It's going to cost me $150 to fix it. After dishing $100 on my 360, I dont know if i want to dish another $150.

Did anyone have this issue before? Is there anything else I can do ??

well if u have a high speed connection (like 5mb or above) it freezes while downloading in the background (well for me) while playing a demo and some games, but other than that mine has never froze

Dear Sony,

Please find a way to streamline game updates and installations of said updates. It's getting really fucking ridiculous sitting in front of my screen for upwards of 10 minutes to get a game updated. I appreciate that some of this maybe due to additions to the game, but if it's just the game being patched, I shouldn't be sitting here for 10 fucking minutes waiting to play a game. Thank you.

Mine used to freeze all the time, then 1 time I quit PJE and the XMB would not load up. Shut it off and it gave me a message "The hard disk database will be rebuilt" Rebuilt in like 3 minutes and I havent frozen since.

I'd love to know what it is that it's doing. I guess it's just using a FAT32 file system? Between that and the lack of a built-in defragmentation program I kind of expect it to get messed up sooner or later.

The 360's probably not much better although at least it's probably using NTFS from a company that makes file systems as their day job :)
When I had my PS3 on DSL the updates took a while, but now with Comcast Cable internet the downloads are faster.
My one buddies family is on Comcast's cable internet, but it still took over 10 minutes PER update and they still had problems when trying to connect to PSN. Of course, they were using a wireless signal as opposed to a wired one.

My buddy asked me why the hell they need so much info just to register for PSN as well, which I can kind of agree to somewhat, though I don't have a problem giving out that info but I guess he did.

Either way, I'm also using wireless and I get connection errors all the damn time or I get the 'connection to one or more players has been lost' message a bunch. I'm actually going to shell out for about 50-100 feet of ethernet cable from NewEgg and just wire up my connection so I won't have the wireless signal dropping out and booting me off PSN.

Only update to ever take forever is the Eye of Judgment update. Other than that, I get updates in about 2 minutes or so, takes about 5 minutes for the last PS3 update though.

I know I'm late to the party, but this week, I finally got around to picking up a Dual Shock 3. Sure beats the ol' SixAxis. Anyways, while playing Warhawk and Uncharted, I've noticed that as weird as it may sound, it appears that the left vibrator seems to shake more than the right side. It may be just me, but I thought with the original DualShock and DS2, both sides shook at the same level. Is my controller broken, or is it suppose to be like this?

Thanks again

(PS: I was told that Tekken 5 DR was suppose to have a DS3 update; is there an option I have to turn on? Thanks)

Sounds like your controller's broken. On a side note, I can't wait to play some Tekken 5 with rumble.

when you buy one, you will get a high opinion of yourself. This stems from the console not breaking, and able to play high definition video. Do not be alarmed. This is normal.
