PS3 Game hard drive install size index

Installing a newer, bigger hard drive on the PlayStation 3 video game console is a fairly simple and straight-forward process, it always pays to keep a few keep safety precautions in mind. This goes for doing any type of console and / or computer upgrade.

Just looked, the update takes 15 Megabytes.
There is a second entry that is for user data, that'll vary based on downloads.

Thanks. That's not as bad as I expected.
 
I'm going to bump this thread cause it's useful (and should be stickied).
The TNA iMPACT! install is mandatory and Street Fighter IV has an optional 2.1 GB install.
 
Ghostbusters 4.0 GB required
Fallout 3 5.0 GB required (without updates)
MLB The Show 09 5.0 GB required
Fight Night Round 4 1350 MB required
Prototype 649 MB required
Hawx 4GB required
 
Updated main list with all the latest info for a long overdue update. Thanks go out to to everyone (special shout-out to Frisky Tanuki) for updating the thread. If you can please use the format I have started and I can put up the updates a lot quicker by just copy and paste.

For example put:

God of War 3--------------(required) 4.70 GB

instead of
GOW 3 4700 MB Req'd


*edit* One other thing: If there is a small difference in your install size versus my chart I am probably not going to update it if it is within 150 MB (0.15 GB) or so. There are constant updates so really the sizes are a moving target which I won't have time to constantly update. Also if the game takes under 100mb or so (0.10 GB) then I am likely not to include it as it is not much of an install but probably a small collection of files and updates that won't impact your remaining hard drive space as much as a 5 GB install of a new game.
 
Sorry to bump this, but could this be updated for 2010? What's rather surprising is, cording to Excel, the current list uses about 651.1 GIGABYTES of data. JEZZ!
 
you DEFINITELY don't have to install any of the street fighters on the PS3 to get them to play. why you wouldn't is beyond me considering the difference in load times, but its not required
 
Now that there's a 12 GB PS3, this is a very good thread to have. Personally, I'm mainly interested in MotorStorm and MotorStorm: Pacific Rift so just to make sure... do these have any installs? "Optional" at least?

I just checked for you and neither Motorstorm or Motorstorm Pacific Rift seem to have optional installs. I haven't updated this thread in a while but I did wikify it so others could update as new install sizes are discovered. It became difficult to maintain because the downloadable patches get added in to the install and then you don't know how much of the file for each game is an install patch and how much is the game installed from the disc. As more patches come out the file sizes grew and some of the values posted might not be valid anymore.

Thanks for doing that. Hope to see a PS3 deal soon.

It would probably be a good idea for everyone to prioritize the exclusive games' file sizes to add to the Wiki for the fashionably late gamers that will a buy PS3 for its exclusives now-a-days.
