PS3 - Lair - Overstock.com - $38.95 ????

pd4ever

CAGiversary!
Was looking for some deals for PS3 games on Overstock.com and found Lair for $38.95. Only problem is the MSRP is listed at $39.99 and the release date is wrong compared to Amazon. Not sure if they would honor this deal or not. Is this a place holder for a different $40 game that is supposed to be released on 10/31/07? I was thinking Warhawk is gonna be $40 but Amazon has a different release date for that too. What do you guys think?

Oh yea if you do give it a try you might be able to use a 8-12% off coupon or $1 shipping if any coupons are active.

well crap, forgot about fatwallet and their rebates. oh well, still got a great deal of $20 off.

deal is DEAD btw...price is now $58.95 even though it still comes up as $38.95 in the search.
Wow...was on the enter credit card info page, hit submit...the confirmation page showed they charged me $58.95! WTF Overstock.
On one hand that sucks, but on the other hand the sooner they fix the price mistake the more likely they are to honor it for everyone else.

I'm going to try to get them to fix this. Pretty sure that charging someone an amount they didn't authorize is a no-no.

Actually, if anyone is willing to PM me their order # I may be able to use that to remind them what the price was 2 seconds before they charged me. Apparently they can't remember the item ever being $38.95.

I called and spoke to a rep. His first words were "That game looks awesome! That's why I bought a PS3." I explained that the search still reflected the cheaper price. He said that current price is $5x.xx. Because of the tiny discount he suggested that I preorder from GameStop in case the is some sort of bonus item. So that is that, I guess.

Your post just saved me. Score. I called them about my order and they credited my the $20 difference back.

Note this probably only worked for me because I ordered much earlier today (when the price drop happened) and because the search result is still showing the old price.
Hmm...I ordered last night, and my order says I was charged ~$44.
The price changed this morning so you should be OK. I ordered this morning. I started placing my order at the old price and between clicking on "confirm" and seeing the confirmation page the price increased. They applied the new price to my order even though I confirmed on the old price. Anyway they fixed it for me.
Then again you actually liked Sonic PS3. You're opinion when it comes to PS3 games (or just games in general) is less than moot.

Trailers looked okay, but there's far too much negativity stemming from the preview builds to blindly pay more than $20 for it. Don't get me wrong, I want the game to run out awesome. I like the concept, and more importantly, the PS3 is really hurting for a good exclusive at the moment.
What negativity? Links please, as I've yet to read real hands on impressions save for a few, and they were positive. Not to mention the very positive Play magazine review.
Just so people know, shop.mtv.com also has LAIR priced at $38.45. That doesn't look like good news for this game.
Any current coupons for MTV Shop?

Did you happen to ask when the expected ship date was?

I'm really going to have to agree. The game looks interesting, but there are far too many things that can go wrong with a "dragon flight sim." I'm waiting for reviews or a demo before I buy this.

Yes, I do like it. It is the only game I have that I play regularly. Great pick up and play once you unlock trial. I don't care that you don't like it, and the fact that you constantly keep bringing it up really says something.

I don't attack people who buy the yearly sports update game or the FPS of the month, so get off it.

No. I was too surprised about getting customer service to fix my order to ask.

I think it'll ship when the game releases since it looks like they're trying to make the item's product page current along with the right price.
Well, overstock must've realized their mistake cuz it's back up to 60 bucks now. I should've just preordered.
Look a few posts back. shop.mtv.com has the same price and there's even another thread about using Paypal to get another $10 off at that site I think...

Are you talking about the $10 plus free shipping coupon for using PayPal? According to FatWallet that coupon has expired. That's why I was asking in this thread earlier if anyone knew of any current MTV Shop coupons.

That's probably the one I was referring to. I don't know of any mtv deals other than the thread here in the deals forum. Sorry if I got your hopes up.

Looks like we could move a couple threads to the deals graveyard...

Glad I could help!
I wonder why I got free shipping (PLUS cashback).
If you use UPromise to go to Overstock you get free shipping and 6% back into your UPromise account (that's the current promotion with UPromise). I tried to do this but already had an eBates sponsored window up and I wanted to get my order through before missing the deal - so I didn't get free ship, just cash back to eBates.

Upromise is load of crap, i'm pretty sure the promise will be broken by the time my kids go to college... However, the free shipping is nice, better than the 4% back from ebates.

FYI for those who got in- Overstock updated their ship date to 8/15 (while Sony is saying 8/14 is the release date). So it looks like we'll be getting the game on time.

if someone buys this then decides they don't want it, pm me and ill take. But, you'll have to pay for shipping becuase im kinda broke. But, if you do send it to me i will send you a very friendly email in respomse

I'm so excited, I wanted this game for quite some time. It's about time a decent PS3 exclusive came out (other than Resistance and Motorstorm).
My credit card was charged yesterday for this.
As was mine! I also was credited for FW's cashback. :) Thank you so much OP! If I could kiss ya, I would!

If you missed the deal, you can get it for $46 after coupon at family video. That's about $4 more than the overstock deal after they charge shipping. Don't know if other deals may be available.

Right. Now they sit on my money and wait for the game. Boo. ;-)

Is there an online review of that? I don't know if one bad review should sway us to not buy it, especially for a great deal like this. Anyone know what the typical trade-in value for PS3 game is at EB after it just came out? If we can get back $40 then we would still lose less than it would cost to rent it.
Wow EGM Sept. says 6.0, 5.5, 5.0 OUCH not good at all ..... I might have to cancel my pre order seriously.
5 is average from EGM...so it pretty much equals around a 7 from IGN or Gamespot or whatever since they consider a 7 average.

Someone quoted part of the gamepro review in gamespot forums. Looks like the issue they didn't like was it was tedious to have to move your arms around during the game since you are forced to use motion controls.

Shit...so it's confirmed you have to use motion control?

Lame. I'll still be getting it though

The review did say it was not the final final build so they could still change it. Not sure how I feel about the motion control. If I wanted motion control in games I'd get a Wii. Wish they'd given us a demo to try it for ourselves.

I think that has changed. I thought I saw something from E3 saying you didn't have to use it on ground combat at least (which was one of the complaints agaist the game in the past).

That is true, on the ground you use the analog sticks but I don't think they've changed it (yet) for flying in the air. Lame in my opinion that you can't choose. Maybe it still can be changed.
