PS3 Media Playback

Hey guys,

Just wondering how I can play a .mkv with 720p resolution and 5.1 surround sound back on the PS3 without losing the 720p resolution and 5.1 surround sound?

i dont think the ps3 can plaback mkvs, I'm pretty sure it's only mp4's for video only

PS3 can't play .mkvs. If you convert it to a format the PS3 can play your going to lose quality. If you install Linux on your PS3, and even make it past that you have to install the VLC player, then you can play your .mkv file. I tried doing all this but its such a pain in the ass and not worth the hassle.
