PS3 officially delayed until November 2006

So, now that its officially delayed till November, are they speaking specifically about Japan or worldwide? I mean its pretty much a guarantee that if they don't do a worldwide launch then Japan will launch before U.S. which means, when will US launch be?

I would think that if Japan would get it in November, there would be no way for a 2006 US release. However, the launch date was originally supposed to a worldwide launch, so it could be November.

They may have learned from Microsoft's disaster of a worldwide launch and revised those plans though. Its too hard to launch a product, in the busiest season, throughout the world, and provide a decent amount of stock. I think it will be a long time before a company tries that again. What could be possible is that they will launch here and Japan at the same time and put off the European launch. Who knows really?

For Sony to be succesful in the US they HAVE to launch by the end of 06. I cant see people dishing out for this system a year and a half after the 360 and 6 months after the Revo

Awesome.

I really want to see MS or Nintendo to bring Sony down a notch.
I own a PS and PS2 and eventually a PS3, I just hate how damn cocky they are about their products

kinda expected this. I wasn't going to get a PS3 until MGS4 launched, so doesn't bother me too much since MGS4 probably isn't coming out until at least then (probably fall of 07 though).

Why do I have this feeling that it won't even make the Nov 2006 release date in Japan. If it does make it to a Nov 2006 release I predict Mid 2007 for USA and Early 2008 for UK.

I'm telling you Sony should have just dropped Blu-Ray support and went with DVDs like everyone else. Blu-Ray has been the biggest set back and its really not bring a whole lot to the table like DVD did. I have a hard time seeing a bright future for Sony next gen.

The original date was never supposed to be a worldwide launch for PS3, that was Japan only. The rest of the world was going to come later in the original plan.

I would have to think that a November launch in Japan would mean a spring 07 launch at the absolute earliest here.

it is not official...

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6145919.html

"While authoritative in tone, it must be emphasized that the Nihon Keizai Shimbun report is in no way official. Though Sony's last-minute decision to change tomorrow's event from a closed-door presentation to a full-fledged press conference augurs a major announcement, Sony is staying mum. When contacted by GameSpot, a Sony Computer Entertainment America rep declined comment, saying "we have not made any new announcements on PlayStation 3.""

they may say something tomorrow, but that wasnt official

"While Sony has not officially issued a statement on this yet"

Just wait and see, why is everyone so frantic that they have to write articles with no viable source, where they could of waited ONE day and got the offical word from Sony. Is made up news better than no news?

I think Sony would be stupid to miss a Near Christmas Launch in the US. If Japan does get it before us in Nov. I can almost guarentee that the US will follow shortly after.

I personally believe we'll see a similiar 360 worldwide launch for PS3 in Nov. Similiar in date, not so similiar in the fact that the PS3 will sell in Japan HA! Zing!

Japanese newspaper reports PlayStation 3 delayed to November

Six month delay caused by unresolved technical issues with Blu-Ray

One of Japan's leading newspapers, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun, is reporting in its Wednesday morning edition that the PlayStation 3 console has been delayed to November due to unresolved issues with the Blu-Ray technology.

According to the paper, the problem lies with the copy protection system used by Blu-Ray, details of which have not yet been finalised - which will now cause a delay of some six months to Sony's PS3 plans.

...............

Sony's conference is planned for 3pm in Tokyo on Wednesday - around 6am GMT - and is also expected to feature a first look at some of the launch line-up for the console.

We'll know for sure around 1:30AM EST 3/15/06.

It's that same fact though that makes it seem to me that a worldwide or even US & Japan launch at the same time won't happen. MS sent like what, like 100K 360s to Japan in the initial batch, and about 350K to the US. That was okay for them because Japan wasn't interested, but the PS3 will probably be able to sell 500K-1M units in Japan in the first shipment. Let's say they only give the US then the same number MS did with the 360. That's 850K-1.35M consoles at launch, and if they don't have whatever problem with Blu-Ray figured out yet (BTW, I don't buy that that is the ONLY reason for a 6 month delay), I'm not sure they physically make and ship that many consoles by November.

Not to mention, if things are as tight for Sony as some analysts say, they may not want to ship 1,000,000+ units all at once, depending on how much they lose per console. Sure, even if they lose $250 a console, they'll eventually make it back, but I seriously doubt most people will be buying a PS3 + 7-10 games at launch (remember, Sony doesn't get the full MSRP of a game, at best it's 50-60%). Then there is the cost of advertising, ect., ect.

My guess is Japan in Fall 2006, US in Feb/March 2007, EU Summer 2007.

You have got to be kidding me....they're delaying the PS3 because a bunch of money-hungry asshats can't decide what copy protection they're going to use?!?!?

News Flash: It'll be broken anyways!!

Only bright spot: Simultaneous US/Japan/Europe release. Hope they've got their QC under control, or it'll be the 360 all over again....just worse.

So its only delayed a few months for japan.

to me its not even delayed since i live in the states and i always expected it to come out around late 06.

its actually pretty cool that they plan on a worldwide release. again this means its not delayed for usa and europe !

:)

OHOH! MAYBE I SHOULD LINE UP IN FRONT OF EBGAMES NOW TO GET MY PREORDER IN! =D

lol

yay, that means my free ps3 from freepay might arrive in mid-2007 (they ship mad slow)

Well, I guess Sony is going for worldwide launch. I just hope they can make enough consoles to avoid the huge shortages the 360 had. I'm not sure if I'll get one at launch myself. I really see no point until MGS4 comes out, but I might get one anyway if its easy as just preordering it somewhere.

Pretty much everyone figured this one out. Now the NEW million dollar question is the damn PRICE. Hopefully pre-orders are starting soon because i am not standing in line again for 13 hours like i did with the 360
Oh, OK... Still not getting one at launch though. I saw screens of Untold Legends 3 and it looks like a 360 game. *shrug*
Anyone that thinks 360 and PS3 games aren't going to look identical 90% of the time is just kidding themselves.

I don't know about you....but reading all the updates from the Playstation conference.....all I'm seeing in my head is THIS IS ALL TOTAL PR BULL---T!!

1) They are saying 6.000,000 Units in 2006....doesn't the 2006 Fiscal year end in March 2007??

2) Didn't it take the PS2 factories almost 6 months to ramp up to the 1,000,000/month output level....and the PS3s components are infinitely more complex.

3) A Worldwide launch......there are going to be massive shortages or a restricted allotment to the US and Europe. I see a repeat of 500,000 systems only announcement come June or July.

3) They say the HDD is required....but they aren't confirming that its bundled with the system

4) The price will not be lower than $425.....which translated it means that the system is AT LEAST $425

5) Playstation Network Platform??? Using Gamespy Software?? I don't know about you but if you've tried some of the PS2 games that use Gamespy as the online matching service......EEK!!

6) Final Dev Kits not shipping until JULY???....Can you say limited # of titles at launch??

I am very dubious of today's announcements.......much less the suddenness of this Business Brief....I think the Newpapers and financial analysts may be more correct in this instance and SONY was worried that all this negative news was making the people waiting to contemplate the 360 now that a wave of good games has come for the system.
