PS3 Sixaxis / Dualshock 3

Currently I only have the controller I got with my system four years ago and am shopping around for a new one.

the cheapest I've found for dualshock 3 is $42 for the silver one at Amazon, for Six Axis I haven't seen anything cheaper than $45 except for a used one for $31 from The Game Rush but I'm concerned with buying a used controller for that much that doesn't have an easily replaceable battery.

Is there a sale coming soon I should be watching for? Honestly I'd rather a Sixaxis over the dualshock so I know that every game I own now and in the future will be supported. I've spent the last two days shopping around and I still haven't found a price that seems worth it to me.

I am aware of the bundles on amazon but I either already own the games or are just not interested in them enough to spend $50 on a controller and a game I'll never play

Any suggestions would be most appreciated, thank you.

*Edit* I didn't initially know that the Dualshock 3 came with Sixaxis control, so I don't have to worry about compatibility issues at all. I would actually prefer the Dualshock 3 over just plain Sixaxis.

Supposedly some Radioshacks have the silver DS3 for like $25, but YMMV, the small one at my mall had it on sale for $50 lol, but it's worth a shot

gamedealdaily if i recall has a black Six-Axis(non-DS3) for $25 shipped, I think but their sold out atm

Now I'm not sure, someone just told me on another forum that the Dualshock 3 has sixaxis controls, is that true?

If that's the case I'd rather the DS 3, i was worried that some games wouldn't be supported because of it missing sixaxis.

Well, if you do not want (or use) the vibration function, go with Sixaxis. But it is hard to find right now because Sony discontinued them after DualShock 3 came out. Not to trying to make a sale, but I actually have couple Sixaxis still in their plastic thing, though it always make me wonder if the battery would go bad.

You can also go with the DualShock 3 and game bundle that is being re-release again, they are $59.99. Target also had clearance on older packaging bundle if you can find them.

Thanks man. I'll be on the lookout at Radio Shack. Need another DS3.

I did snag up that Fight Night Round 4 from bestbuy for only $10 but I think I'll wait for the christmas, and after christmas sales before I get a controller.

I really would rather not spend more than $30 for a new Dualshock 3, and used I don't think I'd want to pay more than $10 if that because I'd be unsure of how much wear has been on the battery.

Wow. There's being cheap and there's hoping for a miracle.

You might want to look into the Rocketfish controllers from Best Buy, assuming you can find any at this point, as they're only $10 and are pretty good for the money.

However I'm not sure if they have the SixAxis function on them, but I know they have the vibration motor(s) like a Dual Shock 3.

Personally, I never understood the big deal with the motion controls ala SixAxis, since they were so inaccurate and just seemed tacked on in most games they were in.

i'm not actually expecting to find a used paddle for $10, that's just how much I'd spend without feeling like I had to be concerned over getting a lemon.

I'd rather a new paddle for sure, still waiting on the $30-$35 range.

I agree that sixaxis is unneeded, however there are some games "uncharted's grenade tossing, MGS4's camo control" that need it. I know I ran into problems with some games using my PS2 controllers with a converter for the PS3.

So while sixaxis isn't a great control interface, I'd still rather have it because I want the controller to be compliant with every ps3 title.

The rumble is just icing on the cake.

Actually I believe Sony blocked 90-95% of the controller converters a while ago via a firmware update. As for the $30-35 range, those prices are typically reserved for Black Friday most times.

Again though, I have to mention the Rocketfish controllers from Best Buy. Not 100% sure if they have the motion control thing in it, but it's only $10 and for a spare controller that's not a bad price.
