PS3 Slim 160gb freezing

So i am wondering if anyone have had this issue, just bought the 160GB slim couple of weeks ago, earlier in the week it started to freeze up, my son was playing one of the demo game i downloaded don't remember which one but it froze so my wife tried pressing the ps on the controller, did nothing so she went to the console to press down on the power button still not turning off so last resort she had to pull the plug from the back. It happen again today before i got home from work my son was playing little big planet with my wife, so when they started playing about 5 minutes into it, froze, then follow by blank screen then after that 3 beeps, i'm assuming overheating issue? Original i had it on my glass entertainment center, knew last week that it might cause overheat so i took it out so that way it can get good ventilation and its laying flat, still i am having issue.

So i check out online about booting up to safe mode tried the following steps first to last

1. Restore Default Settings
2. Restore File System
3. Rebuild Database
4. Restore PS3 System

Did step 1 still froze then 2 still froze then 3, so now before i did step 3 i was playing R.U.S.E demo it froze on me 5 minutes into it now after i did step 3 been playing R.U.S.E for about an hour now so no freezes. Then when i was pausing the game by pressing the ps button it went to blank screen with 3 beeps then shutdown. Could this a defected unit, maybe i need to return it to Best Buy and exchange for another one?

If it's still within the return policy at Best Buy, I would definitely take it back for a new one. No way should a new system be causing you that many issues after taking the steps you did.

Went to BB to swap it out when i got off work today, so now i got another one so far no freezes, yippers, we will see when i get some games going, so far been playing RUSE for about 45 minutes no issue then moving on to like some FPS games, tomorrow gonna play little big planet with son to see how it does, i hope this should do it and also will also be picking up a vertical stand later on for a better air flow.
