I just traded in my PS3 40gb which had stopped reading discs and got the new slim but for some reason it will not connect to the internet wirelessly. My old PS3 connected just fine on the first try with this same router but the slim will not connected except for a 15 span but then disconnected and have been unable to since connect thorough wifi since, wired connection works fine though. I have a D-Link Dir-655 wireless router with WPA/WPA2 security. The PS3 finds the signal but when it tries to obtain the IP address it fails every time either saying "connection with access point timed out" or saying "The key information exchange timed out. The WPA key you entered may not be correct"

Any help would really be appreciated and FYI. My Wii and phone have no problem connecting to through wifi and I have unplugged the router and modem a few times already as well as set the DNS.

yeah its off

well I called Sony and they say they don't know what the problem is might be router or might be the PS3 told me to try it at another wireless location/connection. Might just go exchange it

try a wired connection to see if it works. if that works, try using the simpler wep key instead of wpa

already tried wired connection which works fine and also tried with WEP key would not work and even tried with no security and same didn't work
^ No security didn't even work? That's really strange.
nope said could not obtain IP address, Sony support were baffled too. Will probably just go exchange my PS3 see if new one works if not will just give up and use wired connection

but the ps3 still can find the broadcast name of your router right?
yeah it finds the connection and is at 100%
i'd say turn off your security. then set up the ip address on the ps3 manually. it might be trying to acquire an ip address that is already in use.

what you mean, set static IP? already tried didnt work. I really think im just going to exchange it and see if new one works
Make sure you setup a static IP for ps3 on your router.
tried it already and would not work either, im giving up going to exchange it

I would probably do that as well. Currently, using a wired connection with my slim but, had all sorts of fun setting up the wireless for my old 40 gig. Another thing that was maddening was my old router liked to recycle itself every couple days. Basically, every time I turned on the system it was a gamble on if it would connect or not.

However, I did find something strange on a message board where someone said to plug the controller into the usb charge cable while trying to connect. Strangely enough a few people actually reported this worked.

I get a few issues like this every few months
I usually just reset my router
and go back into setting
and play around with it and eventually it will obtain an ip address.

I go from manual to automatic a few times and it fixes it self.
yeah something was wrong with the PS3, exchanged for a new one and it works just fine. Thanks for the help anyway guys.
Glad it's working for you now and no problem. :)
