PS3 Sound Issues?

I have my PS3 hooked up via HDMI.

I had some sound issues with NG: Sigma where I would get a really loud crackling out of my speakers. It would only happen with certain sound effects.

Played The Darkness this morning and I had the same problem. Pretty much every time I fired a gun or used The Darkness powers, I'd get the same crackling.

Weird thing is that I do not get it when I play DVD or BD movies on my PS3.

What might be wrong? How can I fix it?

I noticed it with Motorstorm, myself... through HDMI and my TV, actually (didn't seem to appear on BLu Ray or DVD that I could remember).

I simply moved my output to my stereo via the component cable I wasn't using anymore and the pop/crackle disappeared. *shrug* Might give that a try.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I found that the problem for mine was that the HDMI was outputting Dolby Digital 5.1 by default.

I changed it to AAC/PCM 2-Channel and it seemed to fix the problem.

In my case it worked out for the best, since I was able to run the sound to my bookshelf stereo (I'm not much of an audiophile)... making streaming music and movies sound a bit brighter than the cheesy LCD speaker set on my TV.
