PS3 Trade in value?

Does anyone know the trade in value of 80gb PS3 Phat?
I want to trade it in for an Xbox 360 Elite since Sony has ignored Canada when it comes to new apps and services for PS3 and PSP.

Just out of curiosity, which apps and services? Movie downloads and Netflix are the only things I see as missing. What else don't we get?
Along with Movie downloads and Netflix they now a Comic store for PSP
Wow, didn't realize that was region-specific also, haven't bothered updating yet. Not my cup of tea but I can see some people wanting that.

You can download and install the reader but you cant download the comics.
I feel Candians my have a case for a class action lawsuit.Sony claims the PS3 can do everything when in turn if your Canadian it only plays Blu-ray and Games(and alot of them arent very good). If Canadians bought a PS3 thinking they could download movies(as told by Sony)would that not be false advertising?

I believe the comics aren't fully supported until December. At least, that's what PtoM says...

I've read that there's demo code downloads for comics somewhere. If those work for Canadians now, then I would assume the service will be available.

Ah, found the link, but people in the comments section are saying it doesn't work for Canadians.

Also, I think movies are eventually coming to Canada, at least I hope they are. Should be cheaper than BBV/ROgers, no?

Video is coming. On the blog the Canadian PR once said they have 2 work-in-progress; PSN Cards and Video Store. PSN cards are now out, Video may come in soon I guess.
Yea I too don't know why they always leave Canada out for every single new service they start.

haha, getting rid of one of the best blu-ray players available because it can't stream netflix (yet)...LAME.

Also, I didn't know netflix was available to Canadian subscribers on Xbox Live (as Rogan said), and they have a comic service too? I don't play my 360 enough to see all those features, it seems. And I'm pretty sure you have to pay for Gold membership to have access to that anyway. You're going to lose that TIV you just made in two years of Gold Live.

I'm sorry for your loss.

I believe you also cant use netflix on the 360 in Canada?

Yeah, Netflix hasn't come to Canada yet, so it's not here for Xbox or PS3, yet Microsoft has been so kind as to include us in the Xbox Live video Marketplace for TV Shows and Movies, which I believe either does now, or is going to, stream HD live (once it becomes Zune marketplace).

Now, depending on the trade in value, I may be able to match it for the PS3 *wink wink* hehe.

There are no plans for Netflix coming to Canada. Last.fm won't work here from the 360, the video store is terrible on the 360 and is incredibly expensive.

You'd be better off renting blu-rays from a local store than relying on the 360 for content.

If you are seriously thinking of parting with your PS3 for your initial reasons, I think you need to sit back and reconsider.

This x 100. I really feel left out of some of the best 360 features since I am Canadian.

I mentioned the NetFlix not being available for PS3, but I knew it isn't even available in Canada period. We also don't have PlayTV in North America, only Europe enjoys that. But hey, PSN cards appeared over the summer, Adhoc party just got here, so it would make sense that we should get movie downloads soon.
I also don't think getting rid of the PS3 at this point is the best idea, but I guess if you feel Sony isn't moving quickly enough, talk with your wallet. I'm not sure you'll have better HD movie alternatives on the Xbox though.

Nobody here thinks that your reasons to give up your PS3 are valid. Canadians can't have access to Netflix due to CRTC laws. Either console won't have access to it. You're going to have to move to the U.S. if you want Netflix on either console. Hell, on the PS3, you can stream movies for free from their web browser. I don't know how they do it, though.

+1 It's not Sony's fault that Canadian's don't get the movie/video service...it's Canada and our laws.

Maybe you can access, but have you watched a movie? I thought it checked your IP if you downloaded and prevented non-US users from using the content.

When I set my static IP, I somehow wound up with one that reads as somewhere in Virginia. That may explain why it's fully functional for me.
And you can access the PSN video store simply by making a US PSN account.

It works, I've used it.
well, if you somehow got a US IP, then yes. But anyone can make a US, UK, Japanese account.

The restrictions therein are that if you create a UK account, you can't buy things without a UK credit card.

If you create a US account, you HAVE to have a US IP address to download the movies. Anyone can access the store, but if you try to download anything, it will fail.

Read my last post.

*edit*

Though I should point out I've only bought things using US PSN cards I had mistakenly bought before finding out they wouldn't work in Canada, so I have no idea if it will allow me to use my Canadian credit card or Canadian PSN cards or not. I imagine not though.

So setting your IP to a US address and purchasing movies with US PSN cards will work here? :whistle2:s
Interesting, never thought of trying this.

I've downloaded a game using the US PSN (it was rag doll kung fu, during that week that it was free) & didn't have any problems whatsoever.

Games, demos, etc. work, but not movies as andsoitgoes said. The video store is only available in the US right now, and it checks for non-US IP addresses if you try to download any.
So where the hell did the OP go?
He's lined up in front of an EB as we speak, waiting to buy a second PS3. Because we're that awesome :applause:

I never would've thought to try it either. It was more of a happy accident than anything else.

I can also watch streaming TV shows from network websites that region lock their stuff to the US only, from my computers.

On the flip side, I can't watch anything on Much Music or MTV Canada. I think I win here.

I hope he realized that trading in the PS3 to EB or Microplay is just plain dumb because they will gyp you. Before the price drop, Microplay only would give me $130 for my 60 GB PS3 in cash (I don't remember how much in credit) when I made a phony phone call to them in the Spring. If you want to dump your console, use eBay, Kiiji, CAG or some other avenue to get a realistic amount.
