PS3 voice quality kinda sounds like SH** ??

Hey I am not going to lie...I am more of a PS3 fan than a 360 fan. That being said I love my PS3 :D but......Why does it seem that people on the PS3 ( over the bluetooth mics ) sound like compelte garbage? Me and my friends talk to each other on Red Dead Redemption and Red Faction and they all sound like crap. We all have the Official Bluetooth Headsets so it isnt the mic itself.

So what I am trying to say is " why is the mic/voice quality bad on the PS3 ? " do you think an update could fix this ?

lots of people use crappy headsets like the 10 dollar walmart special or one that came with their phone. A good wired or high quality bluetooth headset sounds fine. I use the official Sony one and have heard other people using it as well and it's crystal clear.

VOIP is something that is pretty much handled on a game level. The only way it could become "better" (I personally think it's already better by far than the 360, at least using the standard wired headset that came with mine) overall is if/when Sony puts in a cross game voice chat feature.

That said, there's really a lot that can affect quality. People's connection quality/speed, game code, sensitivity (I've noticed that can also be affected by game code), headset quality, distance from the PS3, quite possibly even interference from other wireless items they have.

Some people I play with I can hear crystal clear in every game, some are clear in one game and not so clear in another, others are crystal clear up to a certain number of people in the game, then they break up horribly. This is with a variety of headsets, both wired and wireless.

I use the mic that came with Endwar, and it isn't bad it just takes getting used to...but man I just don't like talking to these people. All sqeaky voiced kids that just swear up a storm like the world is going to end. Kills my ears and I play most games with everyone on mute anyway (voice chat comes through my speakers), no chance I'll put on a mic to listen to it even clearer. Same reason why I stopped playing with a mic on XBL loooooong ago.

honestly, its probably your connection or settings, because I've had full conversations with people while playing games online and it sounded fine. You can even hear people talking in the background of other players.. "what you want to eat?" crying babies... "come clean up" "get off that game" I figure if I'm able to hear the player and things going on in their background, then the quality that I experienced at those times were fine.. which is why I don't have a problem with the voice quaility...

I had a funny experience the other night playing GTA TBOGT online. One kid had a headset and we started talking. The kid was probably like 11 or so and we were having fun but then he started getting really bossy and was hard to understand because his headset sucked. I started to get annoyed at him barking out orders to me and telling me where to go to find him so I could pick him up in a helicopter. As we were talking about headsets, he said he wanted his Mom to go take him to get a new one at the store but she was drunk. Later on I heard someone (presumably the mother) come in and say "what are you still doing up?". The kid kept being really bossy and annoying so I bailed out and ignored his friend request because he was annoying but I did feel kinda bad for him.

This. 100000000000x THIS!!

Between the jackoffs blasting their music over their headsets, the people screaming into their headsets, the tweens and younger set swearing like it's the coolest thing and the people who just do nothing but trash talk as they chase you around when you're just minding your own biz, THIS is why I have refused to put on my headset as of late.

For the record, I'm on the old as shit SOCOM USB headset that came with the ORIGINAL SOCOM on PS2.

I had a couple of those wireless BT ones and I couldn't stand that in-ear shit.

I have to agree, the quality is god-awful. I know that even if I get a pair of Turtle Beaches or a USB headset, then I'd still not hear my friends well, because we all currently have $20 or so Bluetooth ones that aren't that great. I hate how all the time I have to ask "What?" because I can't understand their mic.
