DriveClub didn't count towards the normal game list, and like BoI:R it was announced as being free to PS+ last year. The BoI announcement also came separate from the normal monthly announcement for PS+ games. I've no idea if it'll be in the regular list or not, but at this point it could go either way.
The only reason Driveclub didn't count is because it was a glorified demo. It didn't matter that it was announced early. Don't Starve and Outlast were both announced early and counted as regular games during their month.

I'm on my 5th playthrough of The Evil Within. I obviously havn't got bored yet...

casual, speed, collectibles, survivor, n now Akumu

Have to say Unity is looking . After playing a bunch of IV might be my fastest flip flop on a series. Can't guarantee I'd even be finished with IV by the launch date. Pretty much cements me from going backwards at this point though unless 20,40,60 hours fall from the sky.

What tyler said... nowhere near being the same scenario.

I'm actually looking forward to doing four more runs (Speed on NG+ Casual, Collectibles on NG++ Casual, No-Upgrade on Casual, and Akumu) despite my complaints.

Now I remember why I don't do trophies like you guys.
I don't think it'll take as long to do those playthroughs as it will for this first one (I predict 17-20 hours by the time I finish it; I'm up to ~15 hours in mid-Ch. 11) since I'll be more familiar with the mechanics/level structure and I can only get better with each run.

I don't doubt it, It's just I'm a more of a love a good 6-12 hour gamer. It's kind of funny currently I'm playing ACIV and MGS: Peace Walker which are 2 of the longer games I can remember playing in awhile especially at the same time.

Also the trophy list for shadow warrior is good and diverse. Save for the difficulty playthroughs that may be really rough the rest require you too do diff things with the weapons. All shooters should do this.

I like the trophies which are complete X difficulty and perform Y action Z times (as long as it isn't a stupid high amount of times). I don't like finish in under W time or only use 1 weapon, or anything else that makes you have to play in a certain hamstrung fashion in order to get the trophy. It's part of the reason I keep putting off Dead Space 1 as they recommend doing a plasma cutter only easy run to get that out of the way, but I fear that will be boring / repetitive.

Also I hate multiplayer trophies unless they can be done offline via split screen and/or aren't a big time sink.

One that comes to mind since I played it recently is the trophy in Kingdom Hearts that requires you to finish the game without changing equipment. I suppose if you wanted to give yourself a better challenge on the beginner playthrough (since the difficulty trophies don't stack, something else I hate) it may make sense, but one of my favorite aspects of games of the like is trying out new equipment/weapons. Granted different weapons in KH doesn't change the gameplay all that much, but still.

Started playing Alien Isolation the other day. I haven't even gotten to the Alien yet and I'm annoyed. No jump means you sometimes have to take a long, annoying way to get places because of knee high obstacles. The stealth against humans is not any fun. They seem to be pretty good at spotting you and if they do you're dead after being shot twice (and they are quick shots, meaning running and hiding is pretty much not an option after being spotted). While I love Alien and commend them for nailing the look/sound of the film, this is not very fun to play. Might give it a bit longer, but this will certainly be traded tomorrow for Bayonetta.

I did not find dead space repetitive at all. Its a great game. Imo

Any trophy that makes the game different or shows off mechanics that aren't obvious is cool. Excessive collectibles are my kryptonite followed by multiple playthroughs.

Games I will "rent" from Gamestop

1. Shadow Warrior

2. Alien: Isolation

I hate those types of trophies too but I managed to get 88% of the trophies in Dead Space 1. Unless you have OCD and NEED the plat you should play it.

EDIT: I just looked and I do have the trophy for only using the plasma cutter. It really was the best weapon in the game anyway otherwise I wouldn't have bothered.

Yeah Dead Space is awesome, Owl. Don't avoid it just because of that.

I still think you should pick Condemned 2 as your Halloween game, though.

while I can't bring myself to finish dead space, if you only use the plasma cutter on your first run you won't know that you're missing anything (I think the plasma cutter is plenty fun in the game). it'd also make a second run way less boring since you have new stuff to play with.

Damn, didn't realize freedom wars was Tuesday. Don't want to skip it really, cause it looks cool and $30 is a great price on a new vita game. If it's mp heavy, and no one else is getting it, I'd probably be better off not getting it.

I don't remember why but I started Dead Space on the 360 and never played it despite really loving the beginning. I have it on the PS3 now along with 2 and 3 all backlogged. Games games games. Need more time!

Dead Space 1 is awesome. I still need to get around to 2 and 3.
Temper your expectations for those two.

I know you've probably heard this more times than you can count, but I would play 2 and skip 3.
3 wasn't that bad, it just wasn't nearly as good as the first two (and the second wasn't as good as the first IMO).

My one playthrough of Dead Space 1 was the aforementioned Plasma Cutter only on easy. I'd been meaning to go back on hard and play with the other guns. But those fucking finish this shooting thing with XX% shield left will probably prevent me from platting anyway. Seriously, fuck those trophies.

Speaking of multiple playthroughs, I finally finished the main campaign of Killzone HD last night. Decent enough generic shooter with a story I zoned out during. Not totally looking forward to playing most of the chapters over again with the other characters, but hopefully it will go quicker now that I can be on easy instead of hard like my first go round.

I wouldn't be surprised to see esteemed Professor Stotch's "Rule of 3" being true for Dead Space 3.
While it's hardly a strong counterexample since practically no one here can vouch for it, Valkyria Chronicles 3 (PSP, Japan-only, stupid Sega) apparently fixed everything that went wrong with VC2 and is the best in the series. Lost Planet 3 is supposedly better than LP2, as well.

I'm having trouble thinking of more examples. :whistle2:k

I'd never play a game any other way than normally for my first playthrough, regardless of trophies.  That is one bad thing about trophies in my eye when people decide to do no-upgrade runs or Plasma Cutter only runs for their first playthrough.

.

You hear that, Pete/Ob & Velo? Tyler disapproves of your first The Evil Within runs! :shame:

Really, no one should bother playing Dead Space using any of the other guns. They may as well not exist for how dull and ineffective they are. Just upgrade your plasma cutter and stock up on ammo, it's the only weapon you need.

God of War is a perfect example of a game that doesn't fall into his theory. Everyone loved the 3rd God of War.

I'm gonna play 3. I think it has coop which is cool and I play Dead Space for the action not the horror, which I've heard 3 is far more action-y.
The problem is it's too fast-paced at times. He still plays like the Isaac of the previous games, but the enemies are faster and there's more of them, so it's way too easy to get into a situation where you're just spamming the shoot button. And the parts where the enemies have guns are just flat-out terrible.

Temper your expectations for those two.

2 was great. I may have even liked it a little more than the first. A little more action-y, but still creepy as all get-out. Great game.

His theory is really only for modern games. It's basically that critics love the first two games of the series, then start to hate on it during the 3rd game despite the fact that the third game is basically doing the exact same thing the first two were. Borderlands, Batman, Dead Space would be good examples of games that fall into that category to a certain extent.
