Diablo 1 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Diablo 2

Though admittedly D1 is even more dated than D2 at this point.
WAAAAAAT

Let's think about this. D1 is basically a 16 level dungeon. You go down under the church level by level.

+ The maps are random

+ You are descending into hell

+ I still remember getting chased by the butcher

- repetitive, boring level design

- was there even multiplayer? was it limited to LAN TCP/IP?

- only 3 classes

- No class specific abilities, different class only effects stat allocation, every class can use every item

That last point is my major gripe with the game. Frankly it get boring.

D2 on the other hand

+ it has a story, albiet a long drawn out one

+ awesome community, latter system, hardcore mode

+ classes with unique skill tree

+ rune system, rune words were so awesome

- click fest to get loot drops

- gets repetitive but for fuck 's sake it is a dungeon crawler

Please now, lets get real here. Did i miss something?

mpaullin, go to your settings and click signature on the left side, click on the link button (looks like a chain link). Pick url under link type and type in psnprofiles.com/mpaullin in the url box
Thank you, citizen. But I got it. Had to phone my IT person at work.

Holy crap. A single animator at Naughty Dog made his own trailer for a sequel to Dante's Inferno, titled Dante's Redemption, since he liked the original so much. I can't embed IGN's videos, so here's the article:

http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/08/21/naughty-dog-animator-creates-trailer-for-dantes-redemption

It may just be a fan trailer, but dang, it looks pretty.
That is ridiculous. So is he auditioning for his next job already or is he just showing off? Dem Naughty Dog guys is good!

"I removed my gifs. Now will you look at my signature??"

Yup, un-ignored ya.

Ignoring/Unignoring is such a pain in the ass in 3.0.  I have to go through 14 pages of ignored member sigs looking for mpaullin.  Can't search it, can't sort it by name, it's in some type of completely random order.  Really poorly designed.

WHoever said no COL Vita in the sale is bullshit is 100% right. Don't these companies know that we all want everything on Vita yet? I have a feeling when all companies realize the Vita is a fuck ing force to be reckoned with it will already be too late. Sonya included.

I finished episode 4 of TWD on lunch, so I'll be ready if the Vita version launches next week. I then didn't know what to play so I booted up Sine Mora off all things. It's weird. Not sure why I started it already.

I can't find anything on the rumored COD sale. I'd pick up Black Ops zombie map packs for $5 a pop if they were on sale. Not that we don't get 11 COD sales a year or anything.

Wow, you didn't know that Diablo 1 introduced Battle.Net? That was part of what made it such a huge thing. I deleted those parts of your comment since they were so incredibly wrong. I'll address the rest.

D1:

1. This was a huge plus, not a minus. I don't know when you played it, but having the levels generated anew every time you played extended the gameplay tremendously and went perfectly in hand with the way the monsters and items were randomly generated. D2 follows this exact same formula but just has a bigger (and less interesting) world randomized.

2. Wow, three is so few classes, but five is AMAZING. I can't believe they had FIVE WHOLE CLASSES. Really?

3. This actually makes a ton more sense than the locked-in class abilities. I've always thought it was stupid to say "Oh, a warrior could never cast a spell because they're too dumb to read." Sorry, but this is just an issue of preference (mine being correct and yours being wrong.)

D2:

1. The story is barely there and actually detracts from the game once you've played it once. D3 has the same problem; once you've played the game through the story just gets in the way. Diablo 1 was better because it focused entirely on the gameplay instead.

2. Addressed above.

3. I'll give you that runes were nice, but it wasn't enough to trump the other advantages D1 had that I listed in my first post.

Probably coming next week, with all the other sales (PAX, Pixeljunk) except the flash sale which should start tomorrow.

I just solved this huge problem a coworker has been working on for a week in about 10 minutes, while playing Infamous 2 at the same time.

That's why I get 19% raises, people.

One kid sick Tuesday, one sick yesterday. One sick today. Me or the wife sick tomorrow. Our BBQ celebration may be cancelled.

Thankfully all everyone's had is just 24 hours of vomiting, but still.....

I think I liked the gameplay of Diablo 2 more, but Diablo 1 had WAAAAY more atmosphere and creepiness than 2.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned it, but is anyone watching the 21 day Simpsons marathon that started today?
So there are actually people that get FXX?

I mean, I don't have cable because I'm not a sap. But even everyone I know who has cable or satellite has said they don't get that channel.

comcast, it's part of the regular cable package, Directv it is only in the extra package and higher...

I haven't caught up with the thread so I don't know if someone already posted this but it made me think of this thread.

There's a Master Baiter achievement for this new XB1 game called Fibbage. I hate when games have the same pic for every achievement

I do concede that story sometimes gets in the way. I enjoyed the heck out of RL and that had next to no story.

I didn't play battle.net on D1. You have to concede that the D2 community, the ladder system, the hardcore leader boards with ladder resets made D2 the classic that it is.

D1 scared the shit out of me. D2 certainly didn't have the same atmosphere. What did scare me though was losing my hardcore character while grinding for loot and leveling up for the leader board.

D2 introduced new gameplay elements like transmutation, gems, sockets. Don't remember if gambling was in D1 or not. That skill progession system in D2 set the standard for all action RPGs of the generation.

Simply put, desert Island pick 1 game with LAN connection to the outside world, D2 would be more fun to play than D1. D1 deserves all the praise for paving the way for a new genre of gaming. However, there are reasons why people are still looking for co-op partners to run D2:LOD.

Perhaps we are in violent agreement here?

Why are the Xbox One achievement Icons so so ugly now?

I don't remember what other game I was looking at, but they just had some live action pictures too.

I like the icons so much better than these wallpaper-looking things.

I've got Verizon fios and I get it. I don't know if it's in the basic channel package. I have something beyond the basic so I can get BBC America to watch Doctor Who

Leonidas sound-alike vs. Skeletor, epic.

Keep meaning to pick up the original, hoping it will eventually go bottom dollar preowned or they'll have a good deal on the digital version on PSN.

Well, they are also catering to non tv watchers... Simpsons world app is coming and will have access to every single episode as well. not do mention a Simpsons Encyclopedia.
Havent heard of the app. I cut the cable earlier this year. We only have Amazon Instant video and netflix. Wish they'd get on the simpson game.

Lazy devs. Some of them must hate coming up with something unique for each achievement. It's like, this is your chance to shine or be clever or make players proud to show off their accomplishments and instead you give them this shit. I forgot what game I played recently and the achievement/trophy icons were all the same too. It's not just XB1. I like when devs go the extra step and even color code the unique icons to show campaign versus multiplayer achievements/trophies.

D2 just continued all the MP elements of D1, so you're just completely mistaken on which game to attribute that stuff to. The ladder, community, and hardmode stuff all originated with the first game. Same with the gambling. The only real additional elements that D2 brought in were runes, gems, and locked-down class abilities (which again are a taste thing.) There were a few UI tweaks, but the tweaks and 2 additions in no way made up for the huge loss of atmosphere the series suffered when going from D1 to D2, I think.

Edit: Actually hardcore was introduced with D2. I just double-checked that one. I thought it was in the original, but I was never crazy enough to play that way.
