Only got to play about an hour or so of SoM last night before I had to go...to sleep you perverts!

Anyway, pretty fun but fairly basic so far.  Except for the Graug I ran into after one death.  I can see the game being a lot more fun once you can take on those beasts.  The camera is definitely an issue like reviews have said.  It should have been a bit further away from the camera.  No invert option though is fine with me.

the aquapazza trophy list is ridiculously easy and quick. you could potentially get all of the trophies in about 3 hours or so.

oh, except for two trophies that basically require 125+ ranked wins online. BLERGHHHH

there's also some bizarre slowdown / performance issues but it's otherwise a pretty rad game.

My grrl and I decided to do that fire pit idea outside, ended up taking a bunch of sexy fire pix and then fucked in the grass for an hour. Someone came out complaining cuz I was spanking her too loud so we casually walked inside. I'll post some firepix in another hour after we are done. tmi. sorry pharm bout your wife's hand, hope the rest of your night is better.
Every time I want to really hate you because of all the sex you have, you go and say something nice. Thanks man.

Jerk.

Oh god.  I just received an email with INSURE used twice in the same sentence.  I am pretty sure this is INCORRECT!

"Please insure we take additional care to insure these are executed correctly."

This is from an Executive Director (who I really like actually) that makes boat loads of money.

The two hours of I played of Mordor so far were awesome. I'm compelled to do every side mission/collectible on the map because it is just so fun. Definitely a Tomb Raider remake/Arkham City vibe in that it is open world-ish on a kind of small map, it is just chock full of stuff to find and do. Plus super solid combat. One thing I actually like better than Batman is that you are free to mix between stealth and combat as you see fit (in Batman you're generally funneled into either a stealth situation or a combat situation). Can't wait to get some more upgrades as they look to expand your repertoire significantly. Looks like I need to do more red missions or whatever to unlock the next tier of them

I suspect that this will be my biggest surprise game of the year, which actually isn't saying a lot since most of the games that released this year have been at least slightly disappointing to me in some way.

I do not usually participate in the Frisky bashing, but his latest method to drive traffic to his thread is pretty comical.  He made a post about the spend 100 get 15 promotion and included a link to his thread about the PSN deals in the OP.

I feel exactly the same--I haven't even done the first real story mission yet because I was busy wandering around killing random Captains (stealth-killing like a maniac in the process), starting the weapon side-quests, hunting spiders and birds, and gathering herbs. I already unlocked all of the abilities on the first tier, so I should really prioritize increasing Power so I can unlock the next tier.

I also love how you can still stealth-kill an Uruk from the front if they see you but don't yet go into active-battle mode.

I'm glad Theives in Time has such long loading times as it allowed me to catch up on the thread this morning.  Yay or something.

I also highly approve of new restaurants opening in the skyway giving away free breakfast burritos, sunglass, and bottle openers as I walk by in the morning when I got the damn hungries.

10/10 Vigs

Oh man, I hated that about the Vita version. The PS3 version has far shorter load-times, IIRC.
Yeah I'm playing Vita version pretty much exclusively and it's just insane. That and the cumbersome process to skip some of the cut-scenes just kills any flow. Already beat it, just working on clean up of treasures and maps now.

It must, because I was surprised by his comment. I did not recall any load time issues when playing it on PS3. I auto-popped the Vita plat, so I never had to deal with any issues in the Vita one.

Yeah, I made the mistake of starting it on Vita; I didn't want to use the auto-popping more than once, so I had to plat it on Vita first.

Decided to go out for beers last night since I heard thats not alcohol. Sam Adams and a lot of Lakefront IPAs. I woke up with a huge surprise gash on my leg this morning. But at least I got some ass last night. Sorry Pharm.

Whether you like it or not, it's an extremely standard option. I can't think of a 3rd person game offhand that doesn't let you do it. That it's missing here is very atypical and a really strange oversight.
I know its a standard option. The fact you noticed it was missing and it annoys you is also standard.

I played SoM for about an hour this morning. The lack of an inverted camera is causing some issues, but otherwise it's alright. I wasn't expecting it to be quite so open, honestly. They just kind of plop you down and you can do whatever you want. So far it very much feels like it's about killing orcs and nothing else. Hopefully that sense fades some as I get further in. I've done a few of the quests available, including one story and a couple minor quests. Killed off one captain, and another escaped. Right now the combat feels a bit dull but there's a nice big list of upgrades to dig into that should help that a lot. The focus time for the bow really needs an upgrade as right now it just gives 1-2 shots and then is spent.

Combat feels quite a bit better than AC (I've played up to 2, just to add that disclaimer) as far as fluidity goes, but at the same time feels super super easy. I'm sure it'll get more challenging, but right now I think I've been hit maybe 2-3 times out of the occasions I've waded into a pack of orcs. Even when completely surrounded there hasn't been a challenge at all. That's a big step down from the way AC handles being surrounded, because even though AC can be frustrating at those points it feels a lot better than to just curb-stomp 5+ orcs.

Again an AC comparison...I haven't spent too much time climbing yet, but oddly this feels super-simplified in comparison. In AC you have to have something to climb on. Ledges, gaps in walls, etc.. In SoM it just feels like you can climb anything and the game just pretends it makes sense. I need to give that more time, though.

So far I'm not liking it as much as AC2, but again I think the combat will get a lot more challenging further in and that the combat will open up and become a lot more fun as abilities and runes come more into the picture. The nemesis system isn't something I've run into much so far and that should help quite a bit.

I felt the opposite of everything you said. The amount of variety for this type of game is amazing. Yea the goal is to kill the bad guys, what game isn't. But the different hunting missions, The bow missions, the stealth missions, the hierarchy of the uruks and the power struggle you can create is awesome! I didn't even do but one story mission.

I've died maybe 3 or 4 times due to getting overrun, or a caragor being near by and jumping into the fight. I love dying and then going on a revenge tour to find the guy that killed me. It is fun finding the collectibles because of what upgrades they bring and trying to level up your guy to get even cooler finishers and upgraded health and Arrow mode (which you complained about, of course it's short, it's the beginning of the game!).

The combat is great and smooth, as you get more upgrades you can combine attacks and it feels so fluid and cinematic pulling together awesome combos. I did a 48 move combo this morning and felt so accomplished with how amazing it looked. I think just an hour can't even begin to show you what this game brings. I was also surprised by how it looked, a lot better than any of the videos or streams I saw (duh lower quality) but PS4 looks great!

I think you missed that I said I was an hour in and that I expect combat to get a lot more difficult and much more varied. There's no way you're not quite a bit further based on your description. :shame:

No, he noticed.

My next adventure is to beat the Pilgrim of the Dark levels (Lighting the torches) and the boss at the end.
Ya, that boss is pretty intense in that fight especially since you can't summon any outside help. I found the easiest level to clear was the one in the shaded woods (even if it is a bit of a pain in the ass to get back to if you die) so that's the one I saved for last as when you clear the 3rd level you go immediately into the boss fight. If you find one of the other 2 easier you aren't locked in, once all 3 are clear getting to the end of any of the 3 chasms will trigger the boss fight.

The one in Dranglec castle is the closest to the bonfire but I found it to be the hardest to re-clear (enemies respawn in the level if you die to the boss and have to re-enter) as there are many tough enemies in closer quarters with lots of ledges to fall off, and you have to expend a human effigy every time you fail to re-open the portal.

That guy who got the SoM plat in a little over 2 days must have been playing almost non-stop, as I can easily see it taking at least a week for me to get the plat. :joystick:

If you have a plan of action and play it for 2 days as a part of your job (Reviewer) then i could see it. I mean all the collectibles shouldn't take that long since they are on the map, the hardest one would be dominating all 5 of the war chiefs, and also killing all the war chiefs without anyone getting promoted.

The ps3 version had very long load times for me, worse than just about any game I have played on the system.

No, he noticed.
And yet his response was not at all with the first hour in mind. I mean it's great that he's enjoying the game, but it would have been more useful to know if his impression of the combat in the first hour was the same or different from mine, and if his opinion has changed since that first hour. Nothing in his response was indicative of how he felt about the game within that same time frame, and his one reference to my being an hour in was to say that an hour wasn't enough...which is very clearly what my own post indicated. He didn't specifically respond to a single thing within my post and instead just said he disagreed with everything I had written. He quoted me, but I really can't consider his post to be a response to mine when he didn't actually address anything I said.

Started up Natural Doctrine. It's not near as confusing as reviews are making it out to be. It feels kind of like FFT in tone and Valkyria Chronicles in gameplay. Only through the tutorial and first area so far, but it seems pretty interesting. 4 trophy pops just going through that, too. And it looks like the majority of the trophies will pop during the campaign. Half the MP trophies should pop almost immediately, but the other half will be a grind-fest. Bummer there.
Glad to hear that about Natural Doctrine. I might try it out this evening.

I agree with you that the exclusion is a little weird, but I don't see the big deal. I understand everyone has their preferences when it comes to options like this, but back in the day before the invert option was standard I didn't have much trouble getting used to it after playing a few hours.

fine, I'm 2.5 hours in, really not that much more. But seriously is an hour enough time to even make the initial comment knowing full well there are upgrades and other parts of the game that others have talked about? That is definitely a Snakey move... yours and Snakey's comments have been the only completely negative comments on this game... so you have to wonder why?

Then maybe you shouldn't have posted your thoughts before putting more time into it.
