So I clicked on this link:

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2014/10/02/5-open-world-franchises-that-should-steal-shadow-of-mordor-39-s-nemesis-system.aspx

Entitled "5 Open-World Franchises That Should Steal Shadow Of Mordor's Nemesis System" and the first picture is of the main character of Red Dead Redemption about to get into a knife fight with a bear.

I would kill for a game with a bear nemesis system.  Imagine Cabela's Dangerous Hunts 2015 with the bear nemesis system.  Hell, I'd love to play a game just called "Bear Nemesis."

Question.

Do you guys go to the doctor when you get sick? All the ladies at my work keep giving me shit for not going to a doctor. But what can a doctor actually do for congested sinuses and a sore throat?
I try not too. My history with going to the doctor is them telling me to let them know if it gets worse, and then getting a bull for hundreds of dollars later. I do have great insurance however that I should take advantage of.

A bull for hundreds of dollars sounds like a pretty good deal, depending on how big he is.

I approve of the poll, good idea, next time let's do it the day of the Plus lineup announcement. Everyone is posting what they are excitied about a 2nd time for some reason though. EDIT: Oh and Pix The Cat went from WTF? to sweet pretty quick, thanks to whoever posted those vids.

As long as the Cardinals don't win anything I'll be happy. I fucking hate the Cardinals. Very much extremely so.

I guess I'm rooting for the Os because of the former Brewers hanging out over there, with KC next for the same reason.
Ugh, yea fuck the Cardinals. I like the Royals, but can't stand seeing Ned Yost out there though. What other former Brewers do they have besides Escobar?

Don't be so sure--Rainbow Moon is all about the gameplay with not a whole lot of story, so Therm will likely be singing its praises.
I've actually said good things about RM a number of times in here in the past. There are a couple of issues with the gameplay, to be sure, but it's a great mindless sRPG for when you're watching TV and the like.

Not sure why you think I don't like story, though. I was just saying over the past couple of days that I'd like SoM to have more of that, and Asura's Wrath is very heavy on story and I thought it was great. The issue I have with games is more commonly when gameplay and story aren't merged together well.

That was going to be part of TyStotch Games' new franchise Crafty Minor Too. And now you just fucking spoiled it.

Usually I do this poll within a day of the PS+ lineup announcement, but since I've been sick I haven't really given a fuck about the poll or trophy challenge game or anything like that. It was more than enough just keeping up with the thread and front deals page.

Back to the drawing board I guess. Damn, and we had so many other great ideas for Crafty Minor Too too. Thanks a lot Munky! I hope your fiance breaks up with you!

My kids have absolutely zero interest or care about trophies/achievements. I get the impression that that's the case for all their friends too. There's you guys where it seems to be the most important thing, but I don't think that's going to last. The NEXT gen of consoles aren't going to have trophies/achievements, because the generation that is going to grow up with those doesn't care about them. I'm calling it now.

(p.s. I like trophies generally, but I do shake my head when people say they won't play a game because it doesn't have a platinum. I don't understand that at all. Or when they play Jeopardy solo because of trophies).

Voted none because I've already purchased everything I was interested in this month or don't own the system to play it.

lol the Nemesis system.  Me and Matt and others had a fun discussion about that during my stream yesterday.

Basically I said, "So when do I unlock this nemesis thing?  Everyone says it's cool."

Then I was told that the Nemesis system was the game, how the orcs level up and have unique names and faces and strengths and shit.

I was like "What?  That's it?  That's fucking stupid."

So yeah, the Nemesis system is super overhyped.

Aren't your kids like 50? What do your grandkids think about them?

IIRC, he's already said he likes it.
I forgot to add the word "again" to the end of that post.

Sorry, I worded that poorly. I wrongfully thought you usually had harsher criticism towards story.

speaking of rainbow moon I am absolutely getting obliterated now that I'm out on the raft. do I need to hang around in the first area dungeons and grind it out or am I expected to be underpowered at sea in the beginning?

the game is really cool though. it's been harder for me than I expected and the torch mechanic is like 7/10 therms but I've enjoyed what little I've played.

I am not excited about any plus games this month.  I will try some but excited?  How can you idiots be excited about these October plus games?  If you were excited about these games you would have bought them at release so you cant really be excited for them again can you?  And if you didnt buy them at release you cant really be excited now about them can you?

Oh, and fuck Speluky.  I am excited to try it.

Do kids still play on consoles? I'm pretty sure the generation that grew up on NES/SNES/Genesis/PS1 are the ones buying the PS4 and Xbones and will be buying the next generation of consoles too.

I brought my PSP GO with me today so I could play some Peace Walker and so I can play Ground Zeroes afterwards and I'll be all caught up for Metal Gear Solid 5! Can't believe I'll actually be current on a franchise. Go me! Woot Woot!

Do kids still play on consoles?
Definitely yes they do. Our kids and their friends/cousins all have consoles. But it is true that they also play a lot of Minecraft on computer and other games. Our oldest is getting into Steam now. Steam has achievements, but the same story applies there - they don't care about achievements on there at all.

Basically what I'm saying is that Nintendo is simultaneous behind the times and ahead of the times, all in one.

We're also the ones that hate Angry Birds with the fiery white-hot intensity of a thousand suns...and it's getting a movie?!

Seriously, screw Angry Birds.

ding ding ding

whenever my 17 year old has friends (boys or girls) over they're all like 'what the fuck is that under the tv? xbox? does it have netflix?' even the self proclaimed 'gamer/nerd' boyfriend wasn't sure if it was a playstation/xbox/nintendo console (it's a ps3). I have to assume tyler is 200% correct.

edit - I did once get the 'I think my dad has one of those' comment.

I would be shocked as all hell if trophies/achievements went away. For the simple reason of what you said, there are a good number of people that play some games just for the trophies. Basically free sales. It also ups replayability. Even with the mobile push, most games have some kind of achievement system or goals in addition to just the basic game.

I voted for Driveclub and Dust in the poll. AA would be on there, but I've already played that. It's an ok month though. Just adding to my PS4 backlog.

Also Vanquish update. wave 1 is easy but tedious and time consuming. Stuck on wave 2, Bogey moves so fast and recovers so fast from stun grenades and there are so many other minor enemies spread out that you can't just focus on the Bogey boss as the others will plink you into overheat which is a death sentence. Also I can never dodge roll to avoid his instant death laser since he turns the gun up until the moment he fires. Need to find a reliable way to quickly take out the minor enemies so I can chip at the Bogey until it is under half HP then boost kick him to kill him.

Of course trophies are not for everyone. They do not have to be. MP is not for everyone either, but companies still put that in games. Why? Because some people buy games for it. Some subset may buy games just for trophies. Anything that helps the business will not be removed just because a majority may not care for it.

I understand your frustrations about trophies. Vig made it sound like he's not going to even bother with Spelunky because it doesn't have a platinum, which makes no sense and is stupid. He clearly enjoys similar games and should definitely check it out.

I don't understand why you got to lump us all under one "All hail trophies" label when we all treat trophies differently. You should be more direct with your comments in the future. I actually agree with you on this one, but the way you worded it still made it sound like everyone who likes trophies is stupid and pissed me off.

It's a neat approach I think but the real impact is when when you run into the same orc multiple times. If he kills you or escapes, he'll become stronger and can develop a nice set of responses to you that corresponds to how those encounters went. If you're killing the orc before he can get away, though, then that just neuters the whole idea pretty quickly.

I always launch a grenade near the first and second 'bubbles' and then hide until the fliers are close enough to get taken out with an emp or two. pick at the others while you're waiting and there's usually not too much left after that. the wave 2 bogey is awfully tame compared to the pair unfortunately - you can kind of run around the back corner concrete bumper on the higher tier and just pick at him as he flies up and comes down to melee over and over again.

*deletes vote and adds Spelunky with the others*

Just don't make it the tournament game unless we do Crunchewy's Daily Challenge idea, OK?

Nothing for nothing (and not your kid) but in general I fear for this generation. PS3's are still fuck ing sold in stores. It's not like it's a god damn rotary phone. WTF?

Crunchewy's daily idea was pretty cool. He should post the details over in the thread where I actually pay attention to the feedback, if he hasn't already.

And you seem to excel at challenging platformers, there's no reason for you to not give spelunky a shot, that's why I said what I said. Just play an alt account if you're worried about completion percentage or whatever.

Where did you go in the raft? The island East of your start location has a cave you can go in, and survive, but it's going to be rough since that's a big jump in levels and difficulty. You're actually supposed to head south and there's a huge landmass there that you'll be spending a ton of time on. There's still a bump in difficulty, but not as much as if you go to the East island.

As far as the torch system...why are you using torches? There's a spell that costs 1 MP that provides light and lasts a while. Just cast it a bunch of times (it stacks) and then restore your MP at the cleric or with an item. Repeat as necessary. There's a trophy for leveling up a spell anyway so you might as well plan to cast that one a ton of times if you're going to shoot for it.

This reminds me of that time Frisky made a thread on the deals page that said "There's a PSN special offer this month, check this thread for games." Just so that he could get more people to visit his thread.

God damn the thread is active today.  Must be cuz your fearless leader is finally feeling better and leading the charge into awesome discussions.
