Tyler and I were talking about this a few weeks ago on a stream, where it doesn't matter if it's a game of the year candidate, most of the "big name" sites are going to give it a mediocre review, because that's what they do for nearly every third game in a series. I bet a lot of words like "unnecessary" are being thrown around. Oh well, hopefully it does well enough that it won't hinder progress on BL3, the PS4 exclusive.

I have been so on the fence about this game. For a while I didn't have a PS3 or XBox360 and was going to skip this game (or hope it game out some day on PS4).

Between the issue you bring up (3rd game in a series), different developer, last gen, low gravity, and too many other games come out at or near the same time. Destiny has taken up most of my gaming time for the last 3 weeks or so. I have pre ordered GTA V and Far Cry 4 and just got Resistance for Vita last week.

If I was sold on the game (I am about 80/20 on it) I would probably want the game digitally. However I have some concerns so maybe physical is a better bet for me. Too bad they don't offer a LE version with the $29.99 season pass included. I could use my BB GCU and get that. Not sure I want to drop $51 for the physical and $29.99 for the season pass. If I am going to keep the game I want it on the hard drive.

I almost went into BB last night to pre order it. Ended up not going. Almost pre ordered it online as well. Still haven't.

There isn't too much of a pre order bonus so I guess unless the guy I would play this with buys it I might just hold off.

I'm getting one, I know I don't need it but I figure it will be good for vacation in December for movies and some game playing on the TV. I'm also a sucker for tiny gadgets.

My PS4 spelunky daily challanges have been bad, it feels weird with the PS4 controller after playing so much on the Vita. I don't like where the Run is R1 or whatever, didn't look into changing it.

There in lies the problem; I don't typically tackle several games at a time. Currently playing Destiny and V2X, not to mention Ratchet & Clank with my boy. Not sure if playing it any time soon is in the cards, so the fear of a price drop while it sits on my shelf is real. I suppose I'll keep it, but I'm sure the game has been hyped way too much for me to enjoy it as much as some of you have.

And sonuvabitch.... after going perfect through the first 33 levels, I seem to be stumped as to how I can shave 15 seconds off of level 34 for the perfect. The level isn't hard and I think I'm seeing all the paths to cut down time... I get the feeling like I'm missing something obvious. You V2X pros, help a sleep deprived brother out.

Based on screenshots, my first impression was meh; I haven't played a fencing (mini)game since Track & Field 2 on the NES so why would I want to play some retro 80s Atari game. Watching a video of it on Steam changed my opinion as it looks like fun, especially against other people.

A couple of people were posting too often in the Xbox, PSN, and Steam code trading sections. Another guy got put in trading timeout for the way he formatted his selling post.

His avatar is ironic, because it is making a shoosh sign, and he is silencing a lot of users.

And I just noticed that "The Price is Right" has added male models to show off some of the prizes. 

The show got bad when Barker left, but now it's officially ruined for me.  Another piece of my childhood destroyed.

 
Also, WTF trophy guide. You link to videos for getting all the collectables, but the first video is missing statues in Act 1 which he covers in the second video instead of re-editing and re-uploading the 1st video. This wouldn't be such a big deal except whenever you skip around through chapter select all your weapons revert to level 1. I do LOVE how they do collectibles compared to other games as you don't actually collect anything. You shoot an Oscar sized statue and it changes in color from gold to red so it is easy to compare to a video to see if you miss any as it doesn't disappear from the map. There are also always 4 per level and this is a tracked stat on the chapter select screen so it is easy to tell where you need to jump back in to pick off missing statues.

Trophy guide recommends trying to do all the collectibles in one playthrough, but for your sanity (and for more enjoyment of your 1st playthrough) I would do it in two. The Hard difficulty "no death" run (just exit to the title screen each time you die and select continue), then do the tactical challenges, and finally a casual difficulty run to pick up the majority of the collectibles and to get any of the level specific trophies or combat specific trophies you missed.

You might as well do collectibles via a new casual campaign starting from 1-2 (the first level with collectibles) instead of jumping around as it will take awhile to get 100 melee kills. It also gives you an opportunity to level up and try out a different set of weapon than you did in the first playthrough, I fuck ing loved the maxed shotgun as it shoots a ton of pellets and the firerate is so much faster than level 1. You will feel like a God on the battlefield after downshifting from beating Challenge 6 to casual campaign.

Thanks, but I just now youtubed it... looks like their guns are cutting through enemies faster than mine. I guess there's an upgrade somewhere down the road that will help me. I've been perfecting each level before moving on to the next but I guess I'll burn through the rest of the game and come back.

Casual - For the weak and fearful. Auto-aiming enabled by default and slightly more ammo than normal.
Survival - Standard difficulty. Challenge and overcome your fears.
Nightmare - True to the word. Prepare to die.
Akumu - One hit and it's all over. Worse than Nightmare, this is pure hell.

I can understand why a lot of people didn't like the last half of the show, but I really liked all of it. I think I was about 12 or 13 when the show originally aired and I fell into the "this is too weird for me category" around season 2, but since then I've started enjoying alternate reality stuff a lot. Some of it near the end reminded me a lot of the 999 games which I loved. I think the only other TV show that has really grabbed me like Lost did was Breaking Bad

 
Man, all this Lost talk makes me wish I knew some of you guys back when the show was on. Or at the very least, that the site I used to write for didn't pull all the articles down.

Cool, yea I'm not sure what and when you get upgrades, but I beat the game before I went back to perfect. One thing that held me back for awhile was I didn't realize you can use the hope solo button to shoot when platforming instead of the stick. You can sprint while shooting this way when you can't really with the stick. So this saved me a lot of time when I went back on most levels.

We can just pretend. Did you see last night's all new episode of Lost? It was pretty good. What the hell do you think is going on?
 
I didn't really like the ending of Lost. The "flash backs" throughout the final season were leaning one way,
up to and including about 2/3rds of way through the final episode; parallel realities collapsing back together. I remember specifically a scene late in the final episode when it is frantically flashing back and forth between the island and the side-flash and Jack is cut in one reality and then the cut appears in the other reality a second later. This would imply the events are happening simultaneously, but it's not the case, they make a hard left turn near the end of the episode and suddenly they declare the side-flashes have been a personal purgatory the whole time for the islanders all to meet up in when they die which makes no sense.

The original broadcast of the finale ended with unused shots from season 1 of the plane wreckage with no people around (this was a choice ABC made, not the producers of the show) so I choose to reject the creator's reality and use that as canon; they were dead the whole time.

They weren't dead the whole time. It's said in the finale, and has been stated by the writers a few times since the show ended. Everything that happened on the island actually happened. The only things that didn't really happen are the flashes in the final season. That was a world created by the people on the island where they could wait until they finally joined each other and we're ready to move on.

Need to fix your tag. Right, that's what the writer's said, the same writers who admitted in interviews to hardly planing any ahead of time. I guarantee they had no plan for the "flash backs" at the start of the final season and then stumbled into what they ended up choosing to do. That's no way to run a highly mythology based show.

It says something that some random junior executive could inadvertently come up with a better ending to Lost than the actual Executive Producers.

Lost finale and series stuff...

I always thought the end credit scenes were just time fillers. After that emotional final shot, do you really want loud flashy music and graphics talking about the upcoming Jimmy Kimmel Live episode? I thought it was a great tribute by showing how it all started. I wasn't a total fan of the sideways flashes being personal purgatory storyline, but it made sense when it was all explained. The more I go on from the finale, the more I appreciated it.

I read this article a few years after the show ended that had this crazy theory that explains how Jack actually became the Smoke Monster after he died, and it's pretty damn good and makes a tone of sense. Could the creators put this in the show to ease some frustration? Sure. But I find it fun to come up with and read these crazy theories. Have a look for yourslef:

Didn't they announce the series end date like 2 years ahead of time? Maybe this is the one time my cynicism doesn't overrun me, but I would think that if they have a specific end date and know exactly how much time they have to tell a story, they would know exactly what they're doing with those side-flashes and everything else.

Hm, if you really think that any TV writing staff goes into a season without a roadmap/plan for the season, then I really don't know what to say to you. Even animated shows like Family Guy and The Simpsons have outlines planned for their seasons. The only show I've heard of that doesn't is Souh Park, but even then they have some episodes planned out before the season starts in case they run into a wall. You could absolutely say that something they did in one season, they didn't have a plan for it at the end, and I'd buy that. But to think they're just writing the current season as they go along, with zero plan, is extremely naive. Just because you don't like how it turned out, doesn't mean that's not how they meant it to turn out.

Also, I've read a shit ton of Lost interviews in the past, and never once saw anything where they admitted they don't plan things out ahead of time. In fact, I've seen a ton of criticism because they've always stuck by their guns that they knew where the show was going the entire time, and hence that's the reason they negotiated an end date with abc during the third season. But then when plots started to get dropped, they changed their tune from "We have everything mapped out" to "We have the major destinations mapped, but the paths to get to them are still unclear." Never once have I read anything that said they don't plan things out.

You would think so, but probably not, BECAUSE they had 2 years of lead time is the main reason I was so disappointed with the final episode as
the transition to "personal purgatories" was not an "AHA, I should have seen this coming via signs" moment, it was a "but you were literally JUST implying parallel realities 5 minutes ago" WTF moment. Why does Jack get simultaneously harmed for no reason if the second parallel event would have happened months and months later in "purgatory time." As the events of the island happened (with slash), then indeterminate amount of time, then purgatory side-flash trials (near the end of which the slash catches up for a repeat), then purgatory class reunion.

I loved Lost, one of the best series ever. I remember not caring while it was on until right before the end...I watched 5 seasons in a week to catch up for the finale.

I'd never read about the Jack stuff, very interesting. I definitely need to go back and rewatch. I wasn't a big fan of the ending when it originally aired, but it's because I was under the impression that
It was just some kind of purgatory. But the fact that it supposedly is all real changes it a little bit, and I clearly missed some of the nuance of the last episode or two.

Also, probably giving up on Pix. It's okay, but the controls just seems a little unresponsive when things start to speed up, or maybe I'm just slow. But either way, it's hard enough to get ~800K let alone thinking about getting 2M.

I was away all weekend, but I guess Vig got the 100%? Congrats!
