I watched it. He made her look like every generic feminist out there, the only thing being she has the spotlight on herself due to being the only one railing on games.

I think GG had a golden opportunity and shot itself in the foot. Now all the coverage in the major sites all the time is either about Sarkesian and Wu, ad nauseum, spouting the same old things while not doing anything at all(one being a mediocre developer, the other reveling in being the "first" gaming feminist).

If they want to change the current paradigm, instead of targeting gamers, they should begin by directly dealing with the problem, which are the Devs.
I normally wouldn't wade in on this discussion, but the devs are ultimately going to make what sells.

Maybe you're right though and we don't know that games made to suit this frame of mind will sell because not enough of them are made. Guess that's kind of a difficult predicament.

Volgarr is fun, too bad its not on PS4. Now i can tell u does that was the review code i got 2 days ago, Volgarr.
No duh, there aren't any other indie games that have come out on X1. Also hilarious that you would have got it for free anyway with Gold.

They introduced her immediately before hand by saying she's a woman who makes youtube videos about damaging tropes toward women in video games. How is that not context? Again, watch the video if you're going to comment on it.
I just watched it. Colbert makes a good point that she went and rattled the cage first. So it's like the playground, well she started it. The difference here though is it's not a he said she said thing. All of these reports point to twitter about the backlash. I think, like most things on the interwebs, it's probably young kids aged 12-15 who write stupid crap on the internet or who would call you a fuck head in real life for no other reason than they are young and stupid. I'm not saying that it's ok in any way shape or form but where is the real face to face human context in these continuing stories? I myself a rational adult would definitely have a different view than most 12-15 year olds.

Have female game developers been asked what they think? Have female fans of Bayonetta been interviewed? She admits that games are becoming more broad in that interview. How do we know were not just at the beginning of the next shift in games? Lara Croft isn't the same character she was 10 years ago. I think their are always valid points but I really don't like all the sensationalism. It's as if all news and arguments are made up, put in a vacuum, and then spit out at the public at large. Maybe my issue is more with the way everything is presented these days.

Maybe I'm just old and feel the internet as great as it is has also brought out the absolute worst in people.

Longest 5 hours ever, holy crap. Good news is, after I work 3 more hours, I shouldn't have to push carts ever again. Plus, I have a 3 day weekend! hopefully lots of evolve alpha, freedom wars, and sex!

two of the best things about the internet generally speaking are also the worst - anonymity and the ability to easily find like minded people no matter how obscure/awful your interests or opinions are. that means we can find a bunch of assholes to blab about games with during work. it also means people can collectively yell violent rape threats (serious or not) at public figures with a bunch of other people with no ramifications.

the thing that always surprises me a little is when people who have likely spent quite a bit of time on the internet are genuinely taken aback when a bunch of trolls say terrible things to people. we've been on the same internet, right? this is the same internet where people would purposefully try to induce seizures by embedding flashing gifs in an epilepsy support forum because they thought it would be funny. the same internet where people make fake facebook accounts to try and get someone in their school to kill themselves. I've heard about all this stuff and waaaaay worse and I'm not even a minor participater in the things that put people in the know. surely these gals that have gotten all this internet abuse as a result of their public celebrity would understand that it's par for the course and I would guess 99.99% bullshit.

I'm not saying it isn't grossly offensive and awful and you can't be too careful blah blah blah, but the more you draw attention to it I guarantee the worse it gets.

tyler - the title should be the plural of Matt e.g. 'Matts', not the possessive form 'Matt's'. please correct thx.

Oh man, this Terminator: Genisys "reboot" looks so terrible.

So I thought maybe Hungry Horde or Frozen Synapse Prime weren't ready to go yet and that might be cause for the delay of the official Plus announcement (like when they originally announced Orc Attack then removed it).  But Frozen's Twitter and Hungry Horde's facebook posts both seem ready to go.  Must just be classic Sony incompetence.

Trying to justify my PS4 purchase:

In order to get one for the same price on Black Friday, it'd have to be roughly $336 pre-tax. Like Gator, I don't really see them going that cheap, though I could be wrong.

The problem is I don't have any games for it yet at all. Maybe if Gamefly has a decent deal on a good game today.

Sometimes I hate my thought processes. I over-analyze everything, and then continually second-guess my decision. :headache:
It is impossible for me to justify currently given the size of my PS3 backlog (which I'll never get to if I move onto the next system) and the lack of must play PS4 games. PS+ at system launch doesn't make it any easier as it incentivizes me to wait and stockpile free PS4 games instead of risking getting slapped in the face when 1st year retail release games start going free.

The Bloodborne Collector's Edition is finally up on Bestbuy.com: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Bloodborne%253A+Collector%2527s+Edition+-+PlayStation+4/9463375.p?skuId=9463375&productCategoryId=pcmcat296300050018&id=1219424287445

For some weird reason, only store pickup and standard shipping are available, with Expedited nowhere to be seen. I'm not sure which to choose...
I know they fuck ed up the Dark Souls 1 LE release and I think they fuck ed up the Dark Souls 2 Black armor edition release too, hopefully since this is a completely separate edition and at a higher cost they can avoid fuck ing up a 3rd time.

My DS2 Black Armor Edition arrived just fine (i.e., no real damage) at release. I guess I was one of the lucky ones?

Well, Velo, Pete, and I are the only ones who really discussed The Evil Within after launch, and I'm still working towards its plat. Pete finished it and will be trading it in, and Velo is obviously done with it, so unless I post updates (which I may do during my Akumu run), there likely won't be much in the way of The Evil Within posts.

haha, that gif is great. it wasn't animating for me before I posted it and I knew it was supposed to be animated but I was all like 'fuck it, hopefully it doesn't have some dude in racist black face abusing women and eating mayo or something. even better if it's funny.'

Her videos have never been just for gamers or devs, they're only intended to highlight the tropes and poor representation toward women that exists in games, and why that's something developers should move away from (not only because games have a much broader audience now, but to stop reinforcing the idea that women are these helpless sex objects that the big brave men have to rescue).

Gamergate was never anything but a facade to harass and threaten women, under the pretense that "it's about ethics in video game journalism", despite the fact they've yet to show a single example of journalistic corruption nor gone after anyone that isn't a female in the industry or supporters females in the industry. If they were about corruption they would be going after larger sites and publishers, instead of indie developers and people that aren't even journalists at all. Of course the members of GG are so delusional they'll simply continue to harass people saying it's not about harassment in the same sentence as they are doing exactly that.

And developers are starting to notice. People can say that it's just a natural evolution of games as they grow as a medium that these tired cliches will start to become less common, but nothing ever changes until someone makes a point about it. There's a reason Sarkeesian has been brought in to developers to discuss games with them and has made numerous talks at large developer conferences like GDC.

You can say that these are just 12-15yo (and certainly some of them are), but the sad truth is that a lot of these are fully grown men who are now feeling threatened that a woman dare want to be part of their little club. You can look at any number of "rebunk" videos that have popped up which are very clearly being made by adults.

There are always internet trolls, but there is a line between people telling you to go die over the internet, and leaking your address, bank account details, and sending very specific threats toward you and your family. Yes, some of them might not have any weight behind them, but that doesn't change how seriously they should be treated. If you suddenly started being bombarded with hundreds of thousands of people saying they were going to break into your house and murder you, with all those details out there, would you not be concerned?

And female developers have been asked what they think. Why do you think so many of them are being harassed and threatened? Really, I don't know if you're trying to deny this is a serious problem, support Gamergate, or just don't care enough to look fully into it.

Just make sure you use like bright or hot pink. She tried bubblegum pink once and it turned blonde within a few days. Always go for darker rather than lighter hair dyes cuz they will wash out too fast anyway.

also yeah im done with The Evil Within. After you beat it on Akumu they give you brass knuckles, which I guess makes melee awesome, but im horrible in the way that after I plat a game I am usually 'done' with it, so yeah, prob never gonna use those brass knuckles unless I can buy it for under $20 or so and knock out the dlc. 2 kidmans and a keeper dlc do sound pretty awesome, especially if they expand on the plot and trophies.

Ninja what are you doing right now? Can you stream? Please, I'm dying over here.

Gotta hook up the PS4 again for the Evolve alpha this weekend.

Still waiting for word on The Crew beta to see if that game is worth buying.
