I installed that 640GB WD HDD on my original 60GB PS3 about two years ago and I agree they are not that good, it was extremely loud, I had to turn the volume on the tv higher than usual just to be able to hear, it was even louder than my gaming rig

I thought you could do a complete backup and transfer even copyrighted saves to a new hard drive (since it was the same PS3). I don't remember having an issue when I upgraded to a 320 GB hard drive last year for the Welcome Back free games.

But I definitely had a problem when replacing my YLOD PS3 with a Slim. I managed to get the YLOD PS3 back up to perform a full backup (which took 4 hours) but none of the copyrighted saves were transfered (none of the game install files or patches were transferrred either). The restore took mere minutes (since it was only restore save games).

Yeah, as long as you're restoring to the same system, the normal back-up method will move your locked saves over just fine. It's only when moving it to another system that you'll lose them, which is why the data transfer or cloud saves are the better options for that situation.

well that sucks, my original PS3 YLOD on me I have about 12 games, some demos and a couple of movies installed on it that I won't be able to transfer to my new slim PS3. At this point I don't if I should go to the trouble of getting it fixed, I got some Skyrim saves I'd like to get out of it though. I have two different playtroughs with 200+ hours worth of gameplay, I want to get the platinum trophy for it (so close) but I don't want to start all over again

I used the hairblower trick on my YLOD PS3 in order to back it up and deactivate my accounts. I then traded it in for a Slim.
 
Just curious -- does the PS store update this week, or have they changed the update cycle? There's no mention of it at all...anywhere, lol. Will today be the last day to purchase the discounted Sly games?
 
I don't even have a Vita, let alone Escape Plan, but I'll buy that DLC for 25 cents, just in case I get it ever 'cause it seemed like a bunch of fun the 5 minutes I played it in Target.

The update hasn't happened yet, as evidenced by the fact that nobody is talking about it. It should happen within a few hours. No, the Sly games will be on sale for at least another week.

Assuming I have $0.25 in my PSN wallet (and don't need to fund anything) I plan on buying it as well. Despite the fact that I don't own a Vita and have never played the game.

Well, I know the update hasn't happened this early, but normally there's information on what (if anything) is being added and removed. Anyway, thanks for the info on the Sly games. Oh, and thanks for maintaining and updating the thread.

They post the update on the PS Blog when the update happens, not well before, so I'm not sure what you're getting at.

Sometimes we know ahead of time about PS+ content, but we weren't privy to any of that info this month because the PS+ June update post focused all on the 12 free games.

As for things being removed, so much old stuff came down last week and so much new stuff went up, there is really hardly anything that is being removed this week, so that's why you're not seeing it. A good thing to remember is that if something is coming down in the next update, Frisky will note it in the OP. If there's nothing there, then nothing is coming down.

K. I never said "well before". It's just that for the last few weeks (unless I've been imagining things), I'm always privy to what will be in the update before it actually happens. In fact, you're usually the person who posts the info, lol. Not a big deal, I mainly didn't want to miss out the Sly Cooper games since I hadn't bought them yet.

He had at least one extra batch for sale (must have been a limit on the number of items per ebay auction) but looking at his profile just now he is no longer listing any items. As of now the deal is dead but there are always at least some discounts available on ebay which is good if you have paypal funds available.

Cool thanks. I snagged one of the codes from that dude also. Seems sketchy but Ebay always protects the buyers so I'm not too concerned
 
Yeah i ended up grabbing one too and noticed he is OOS. Ive wanted to grab Infamous 2, All 4 One, Warhammer, and LBP2. this will be a nice rental for them :)

Id like to grab a Sly too but disc collection might be worth waiting for.
 
I feel like I am complaining but does anyone else have a really slow download. Warhammer (6GB) has taken at least 6 hours for me. I am dreading downloading All 4 One and Infamous 2. I checked my connection and I consistently get 19Mbps so I am pretty sure it is not on my end. Anyway to know where in the country the server is located?
 
mine were fine, i downloaded them at 10 mbps or so, the ones i noticed. I set them to download overnight and install and the system turns off when they are done. all 8 of the games i downloaded were ready the next morning.

My downloads crawled but I was on Wifi for a few days . Now on ethernet seems faster but maybe it was just really slow for both and I didn't notice. Took like 7 hours to download 1 GB of data at 5mpbs or whatever
 
Anyone else getting an error message when trying to redeem a year voucher for PS+? I get up to the point after the warnings and junk then I get An error has occurred (80023102) when it should accept it. Got my voucher from Walmart cause I had credit. Very frustrating. I just scratched off the area to get the numbers so it's not a bad voucher. Tried redoing CC info/address and all that stuff but it still won't work.

I used to have a really slow connection with PSN, but as of recent it has really sped up. Are you hard wired? That may help a little bit, and I usually hard wire my PS3 when downloading huge files.

I'm nowhere near 10mbps, maybe just slightly over 1. But that works out to downloading about 3.6GBs per hour, which is enough for me. I got LBP downloaded in probably about 60-70 mins.

Yeah I am using the Ethernet cable instead of WiFi but I am lucky to get 600MB/h right now. If I stay on this pace it will take 25 hours to download Infamous 2. I just hate having my fat PS3 on for so long. Currently running 2 fans on it to keep it as cool as possible.

Ya already tried that, it's useless. Says to check if PSN is up or it could be internet connection. Both are fine and I haven't had a problem with anything on PS3 till I tried putting in the voucher. You can just redeem the code on sonyentertainmentnetwork.com if you want the easiest way to do it.

So is darksiders up today? I saw some post about it. BTW alot of these PS Plus games are on Onlive...don't know if thats just a random coincidence.

It was one of the games that EU PS+ people got last week, though I don't see them switching out games after one week.

I screwed up and deleted my hard drive backup cause I formatted in NTFS which wasn't reading. I figured I'd delete then format FAT32 and try again, well I had cut and pasted not copied and pasted, so the backup on my PC was gone. Oh well, luckily all my game saves were to the cloud. It will probably just take a day or two of downloading to get everything back.

Yup, I just recently backed up all my game saves to the cloud basically for that same reason.

Speaking of hard drives again, is the largest supported hard drive still 500GB? I mean without partitions, still juggling the idea of upgrading my PS3 hard drive for the first time.

Mine's been slower than usual since the 12 games showed up.
 
This really has not been my day. So I know why I was getting such slow downloads. I plugged the ethernet cable in but I never switched over from the WiFi. For some reason I thought it would auto-detect the cable and switch over. It is going much faster now. I am getting 20Mbps.

Nope. 1 TB drives are confirmed to work on both fat and slim PS3's.

For some reason it won't accept PS+ codes, it just says that the code can't be put in on PC. Kinda odd.

Same here. It just took me 70 minutes to download lbp2.

That is what the diagnostic on the PS3 is telling me...now if the game is actually downloading that fast I do not know. What I do know is my WiFi configuration must be horrible for the PS3 since it was crawling before that. I will switch it back over later and see what the DL rate is.

Oh ya, from the speed test I could see you at 20mbps. It's probably not dl'ing that fast. I know I'm at 15-20mbps on my home network, but usually only download from PSN at about 1. I assume it just has something to do with PSN's upload speeds, if that's even a thing.
