I'm a little hesitant with Toe Jam and Earl, since it's a Genesis game where most of the data is taken up by trophies. I might as well be playing it on a system with a better controller.

I got the Cave, Virtua Fighter 2, and Papa y Yo. I might want to buy another $10 card, but I'm not sure about PS3 velocity Ultra.

Should I get the Worms Revolution game? Or should I stick to a much older version I can find in a thrift store?

I'm sort of the same. I don't think their games are bad by any measure but I wouldn't cry if they stopped developing. People really seem to love them (and Tim Shaffer). I've played Costume Quest, Psychonauts and, of course, The Cave.

Strangely enough I think I'd really enjoy Broken Age. Probably not coming to consoles anytime soon (if ever) so I'll pick it up if it goes to a Humble Bundle.
 
The Cave was underwhelming considering it came from Double Fine and Tim Schafer.

This is a good sale for Sony (though not necessarily for us).  Sell a lot of the games that many of us got for free.  It makes them look like they are doing something.

I want to spend some money on something I know I'll never play.  Maybe Harvest Moon.  I've never played one of those.

Hahaa, that's exactly what I said and dude above called me a troll. I know I'm not crazy for thinking half this stuff has been free and the others locked away in a dusty museum. Ehh whatever.

The Cave is a Ron Gilbert game, not Tim Schafer, as he joined Double Fine exclusively to work on that game before leaving again.

Interestingly, that comment did seem a little trolly. However, when I read it this morning, I had just finished seeing affa's troll posts in the flash sale thread. Also, I had a headache and took 3 Advil and a double White Russian, so maybe I'm not the best judge.

I have 13 of the items on sale and I think I only bought Wild Arms...so that's 12 free games for me.

psn  must be having problems.  i tried to order   Legend of Dragoon 3x    around 8am this morning.  Downloaded to 75% stopped.  downloaded to 85% stopped  3rd time downloaded 100% 

took around  8 mins each time  on the PS3 and then took another  5  mins to transfer to the vita.

What should of been an easy 12 min download turned into 40 mins .  O well at least i got it

I love these sales.  For the Vita I got Syphon Filter 2, Velocity Ultra, Thomas Was Alone, and Tekken 2.  Still waiting for a Fez sale.

Because Double Fine was founded by Tim Schafer, who gave us such games as Grim Fandango and Full Throttle and was co-designer of such games as Secret of Monkey Island. Grim Fandango is arguably best of genre, and together with the rest of his portfolio gives him a lifetime pass for people being hyped for his games. Same as, say, Carmack... sure, we might be disappointed by a release or two (Rage or Brutal Legend, etc) but that doesn't mean we're not going to be hopeful for the next one.

But if all you played were the ones you mentioned, I can understand your confusion. I wasn't all that into any of the three you mentioned either (started all, gave up on all)... but again, Grim Fandango alone would excuse a dozen bad games.

I played it on ps3 a couple years ago and really enjoyed it. As i've mentioned at the outset of this sale, i found it was still very playable and adapted to the controls pretty quickly. Unlike, say, Tomb Raider or Silent Hill tank controls which made them near unplayable for me. Syphon Filter shows its age, but it was still a fun game and I enjoyed beating it. Make no mistake, it's a ps1 game... but still fun. I'll probably play the sequels on my vita, which will be even better.

It didn't really feel like a knockoff MGS to me, or, if it did, it stood well enough as its own game that i didn't notice/think it while playing.

Destruction Derby (not currently on sale, but was ps+) was also pretty playable for a ps1 action game, though with an extra share of faults. Really made me want a modern version of the same game.

Grim Fandango is just very unique I got through a good portion of the game without a guide (surprising as the puzzles aren't always intuitive). Just a good game I can't wait to play again. 

 
I enjoyed the first hour that I played of Legend of Dragoon. It just has enough weirdly written lines of dialog and other odd localization things that makes it hard to really enjoy the story, but I enjoy the battle system enough that it could definitely carry me the whole way through on that alone.

And this Grim Fandango!!! If I have to hear one more person say how much of a classic it is, lol. Its another case of Dig Dug for me. So I will have to check for that, too.

How is Virtua Fighter 2?

I just got a new stick and I've been looking to play some fighting games. I haven't played Virtua Fighter since 4 was brand new on the PS2, and played the first one in the arcade before that.

I may pick up the Wild Arms games, might watch a video or 2 to see if they are my style.

I have been avoiding my PS3, because I am about to go buy shit.

 
The only games u should pick up in the sale are Velocity Ultra(ps3), Double Dragon Neon, Papo and Yo, The Cave,  Urban Trial Freestyle(ps3). Thats it.

You know I think people don't know hard sometimes. One hit kills...oh man I replayed so many bosses and never beat the game. Rented it twice many moons ago though. Great game and full of character.....I loved platformers so much as a kid. Couldn't get enough of them.

To be clear, it's an old school 'point and click' adventure where you pick up items, combine them, and solve puzzles. Where it absolutely shines is art direction, story, and humor. Then again, I suppose the genre has made a bit of a comeback since it's perfect for phones/handhelds.

 
MLB14 for Vita is on sale for $20 at Best Buy this week. $20 after GCU. I locked it in for $19.22 at Amazon, and current Best Buy base is $20. Just a heads up for anyone who's interested in it for a quick plat and small profit.

Damn. It really is easy to forget how far graphics have come.

I remember playing old school Spec Ops and Syphon Filter on PS1. Those were my main introductions to the TPS genre. Even though that video turned me off I'll probably blow my money on the series for pure nostalgia.

I was just thinking about Dino Crisis earlier this week. This is a sign to nab it. I never really got to play it much. My cousin got a PS1 way before me so I mainly watched him play those games when I was younger along with MGS and RE.

I didn't even really like early polygonal 3D that much when it was new, it's not that surprising that most of it didn't age very well. Good sprites hold up much better.

I don't even know what to say about the Grim Fandango thing. It's not so much that it was something so popular that everyone was playing it, as much as it was something that fans constantly talked about for years and years. It's hard to imagine being anywhere near gaming discussions from that era and never have it get brought up.

Boogerman is funny, because it sounds too stupid to be true, but I don't recall it making that big of a splash. Earthworm Jim might be a good substitute. Similar in tone and style, and was talked about enough that we can all continue to goggle in condescending disbelief when he hasn't heard of it.

Oh, hey...I guess FFX/X-2 would work with the 15% off via Cartwheel at Target, or 20% with RED card. So it'd be $16 after a PM.

Still want the digital instead, though. That's the downside to all those sweet deals at different retailers, I guess.
