This sale is actually kind of ironic as you have amazing prices on some full retail games and absolutely terrible prices on some indie games. The Swapper $15.99 and Rogue Legacy $13.59, and thats on sale. Full price is $19.99 for The Swapper and $16.99 for Rogue Legacy. Console gamers just get raped on indie games and this is exactly why I play indies on PC even tho I vastly prefer gaming on consoles.
It's new to the ecosystem and it's cross buy.

Devs need to make money.

The normal price of Rogue Legacy is $14.99 on Steam, so we're paying an extra $2 for crossbuy, and getting a small discount ($13.59, plus any rebate, so as low as $11) if you buy now. That's fantastic for all the people who still have a ps3 or vita and are planning to eventually get a ps4.

Expecting release prices in a new ecosystem to match the best steam prices (summer sales, humble bundles, etc) is just unrealistic. It's an absolutely unfair expectation to put on devs to ask them to suddenly do all the work to get it to a new system and then sell it at a reduced price to boot. So, what, because they bring it to ps4/vita now they need to sell their game at $5 because it was on sale on Steam once or twice for that price? And then I suppose they'd have to reduce their Steam price to match so PC users don't get upset? That's absurd. Matching the price makes sense. And even that extra $2 makes sense given the crossbuy situation.

It's great and good that you game on both systems, so yeah, get your deep discount on a game that's been out long enough on pc to garner deep discounts aimed at people that buy things at deep discount. Here, in ps land, it'll be a bit longer.

If you don't want to pay full price, do exactly what some PC gamers did -- wait 6 months or a year for a big sale. But while it's new to the ecosystem it's new to the ecosystem. That's not 'rape', any more than it was 'rape' to the pc buyers who bought it full price. The fact is, the game is 'new' to millions of players. It doesn't matter if you already played it on pc, because they didn't.

If I spent $5 on the Steam version of Rogue Legacy, it would sit there unplayed with the other couple hundred games I've never played. If I buy it for vita, i'll play it.

Oh, and shitty use of the word 'rape'. I miss all the old regulars. At least they weren't hyper negative.

I bit on Marvel Lego, my fiancee and I love the Lego games.

Grabbed Batman Origins & Blackgate for the Ps3 & Vita respectively. Just need to go and beat Arkham City.

**(Had to restart with my GOTY edition didn't realize the regular edition didn't pull over until I had already traded it in.... was 3/4 done on the Vanilla, only 1/4 if that on the GOTY... been busy with Last of Us, L.A. Noire and Red Dead GOTY dual pack lately.)

Also grabbed Injustice for my Vita (have the regular edition on PS3 and don't feel like buying Ultimate as I'm sure my vanilla disc is worth nodda.

These are awesome prices. FOr $25, I gladly add these to my backlog.

No discount on the Arkham Origins DLC?  With that rumored complete edition, you'd think they'd try to push out a bit more DLC sales.... oh well.

They are a bit high, more ways than one. I think the rise in cost of indie games should come with an increase in content but that's not always the case. I will pay the extra $$ though not to have to carry my laptop around anymore, but the four games aren't on Vita and they are not the kinds of games I play at my console anymore. Console time is limited. If they were available on the Vita then I would probably had paid the terrible prices.

Gamers are remarkably cavalier about this term. I don't think they understand that this is what many women fear more than anything else. When a woman makes a controversial comment about the video game culture, she gets a fistful of e-mails threatening rape, which makes me wonder why anyone would consider that a reasonable response. Uh, could you NOT do that? I know, asking you to behave like a civilized human being and not some barbarian from the 8th century is a violation of your free-dumbs, but just try.

Well, Catherine is bugged for me when trying to install the game. It stops at 92%. I looked this up and other people had this problem. It stays at 92%. It seems some people had to wait anywhere from 10 minutes to half an hour for it to work. I really don't feel like downloading this again, so i'm going to leave it on for a while. This was a problem for people in 2012. They should have this fixed by now.

Interesting. Worked fine for me, so I wonder why some people have issues.

Yes, developers do need to make money and I have no problem with that fact. In fact, I refuse to buy used games due to the fact that developers don't get any of the money from used games. So I am the last person in these forums you need to preach that line too. That said, the difference in price on the PC side vs console side, for most indie titles, is nothing short of insane. Console gamers are getting raped on indie games. Buying indies on consoles, you might as well be walking out back, starting up your BBQ and throwing money into it.

Oh well, to each thier own. If you want to spend $15-20 bucks on a game that you can easily buy for $1.00 or less, just so you can play the game on a console instead of a PC, then so be it. Its your money. Again, I have no problem with developers making money, but I do have a problem with the current pricing model for most indies released onto consoles. In my opinion, there is a very clear difference between fair pricing and pricing that is way out of whack. Indie pricing on consoles is WAY out of whack and cosole gamers are getting raped on pricing. No thanks! I will be sticking with my PC for most indie games.

In other words, well just agree to disagree.

Yet this is the current strategy for the Vita. Shuhei Yoshida has said that Sony will scale back on first party releases and will instead rely on indie games to keep the Vita afloat. This strikes me as a remarkably bad idea for a whole lot of reasons, but I'm not sure if there's anything that could save the Vita at this point.

I got raped at McDonald's yesterday. They forgot to put fries in my bag. My friend got raped at Walmart because their prices were higher than Target. My other friend got raped in a dark alley and now she's scarred for life and has to go to therapy.

Please use the word "rape" responsibly. It's hard to take anyone's comments seriously when they use such hyperbolic wording. I have never been raped and am not sure I know anyone who has, but it has a much more serious implication than simply over paying by a few dollars for a video game. I would imagine that anyone who has been raped would feel quite insulted by how easily the word is thrown around. I'm not trying to make anyone (including you) feel bad or insult anyone. I just think we sometimes use terms without thinking about better or more appropriate alternatives.

if that is TRUE it would not shock me to see a new handheld out by sony sometime in 2014 in japan and 2015 here... been nice knowing you vita but you be dead within 6 months

I hate all the Netherealm fighting games, but MK vs DC is notoriously bad. People who love those games hate it as well. It's a clunky mess.
It is totally awful. For $10 on XBL this week I said absolutely not, though for $5, maybe if you're willing to waste a burger to see just how bad the game is. But really, just don't bother, skip to MKX and Injustice.

Well, go here and you can draw your own conclusions.

http://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2014/06/18/shuhei-yoshida-you-can-expect-fewer-first-party-ps-vita-games/

I'm not sure why Sony would consider releasing another handheld, given the current industry climate. Things have changed. Even the 3DS isn't doing as well as its predecessor thanks to the rise of smartphones and tablets. You can get a Nexus 7- a far more versatile and well-supported device- for only slightly more than the price of a PS Vita. With this in mind, it just doesn't make sense for Sony to take a bath on yet another handheld game system... there's just no way it can be successful.

Of course, people told Sony this in 2011 and they released the Vita anyway, so we may end up seeing a third Sony handheld. They're remarkably incapable of learning from past mistakes.

No way Sony is releasing new hardware in the next year or two. They're pretty public about the fact that they're scaling back on first party development, but some stuff (Gravity Rush 2, etc.) is still in the pipe.

Their Vita strategy for the West is clear and it's responsive to sales data. They don't move a lot of boxed retail games. They were already losing Vita shelf space and they've got no real shot at getting it back as stores like Best Buy cut back on game displays while supporting PS3/360 and PS4/One.

But they do sell a lot of $10-20 digital titles. Vita' digital attach rate is through the roof. That's got a lot to do with how they ended up with their current installed base, but it is what it is. They've pushed out development tools that make it relatively easy to target PS4 and Vita simultaneously for low-resource games, which is why we're seeing so many indie cross buys like Hotline Miami 2 and Binding of Isaac in the pipeline. Remote Play is a sweetener and allows them to say that "big" games are available in addition to niche titles. And it works well. I platinum Knack, Resogun, Ghosts, Dead Nation playing almost entirely (80-90%) over Remote Play. Vita is and will remain a great device for a core gamer. It's a bust for a bro-shooter lover or "franchise" gamer who wants their yearly fix of Madden, CoD or AssCreed. That'll limit further growth. It's a less ambitious system now and the wrong fit for lots of gamers, but it's not dead.

Japan plan is different since it's a handheld focused market, and some of the Japanese content could make a splash over here (Freedom Wars?).

So tempted to load up on PS4 games for when I eventually pick up a system this fall.  Injustice and Lego Marvel Heroes are so tempting.  I have Playstation credit hanging around, so... why not?

Just a heads up, the servers for MK vs DC Universe have been shutdown (part of the gamespy shutdown).  I am on chat with customer support right now to get my money back.

Now I face a decision- do I bite on this Arkham Origins Blackgate price now, or wait for the HD PS3 version to go on sale in the future?  Has anyone played both who has an opinion?

Anyone who has played it on Vita- is the map and anything else in the game really THAT bad, or was it just trashed in typical overdramatic internet fashion?

The map is god awful since you have to do so much backtracking. The rest of the game is pretty decent.

Bit on Injustice PS4, but going to wait on the Batman AO since the Complete/GoTY is supposed to be released in a month.  Goofy pricing on the Lego Marvel across platforms too.  I've got it on PS3 & PC so not triple dipping.  It should be cross-platform or at least just an upgrade.

I doubt any "new" handheld console is coming down the pipeline only because the market is so swinging to mobile devices Sony & Nintendo want to stretch their current units out as long as possible. I bet we will even see these going as far as the PS3/360 consoles as lifespan goes. It will cost both companies millions upon millions or R&D dollars to get something solid and right now they just dont see it as cost efficient when the both 3DS/Vita are perfectly adequate systems not great just adequate. Maybe in another 5 years we'll start hearing rumors or leaks on new handhelds but not next year, Vita came out 2 years ago. If Vita had sales figures of say Virtual-Boy or say Neo Geo Pocket it might something else but Sony is going to continue backing the little console that could.

I don't think it's that bad. I enjoy going back looking for missed items. At least it doesn't repopulate the map every time you enter a room. THAT annoys the crap out of me. It's more fun than I was expecting.

WTF? It isn't as fun as Mortal Kombat or Injustice, but how is it bad? It's about like any other 3D Mortal Kombat, and frankly I had more fun with it than I had with SSFIVAE, Dead or Alive, or Tekken Tag 2. To say nothing of the story.

Now the servers being offline is major suckage....

Well, yeah, but I have him on ignore for that reason.

Hmm, turns out the Don't Starve DLC must just be tied to your account and requires no download (not even an unlock file like on most PS3 DLC). The DLC was active when I booted the game up, without downloading anything.
Unlock keys are tied to your PSN account instead of the system for PS4. You can confirm this by viewing "Services List".

This is how they efficiently do the unlimited activations for the non-home PS4.

dont see any real must play games on the nexus or any tablet

So I don't understand why we've got a PS3 version & PS4 version, but no Vita version listed. But I'll copy the quote "Purchasing this content entitles you to both the PS3™, PS4™, and PS Vita versions!" so I can complain if I don't get the Vita version.

You get all three for that price, so you'll get the Vita version for free when it launches. They just don't offer pre-orders for Vita games.

If you haven't noticed, Hohokum offers a special Hohokum themed pack for Sound Shapes with pre-orders, which may actually be available right now if I'm reading it right:

Ooh I saw that and hope/believe they'll release it by itself eventually. I refuse to pay near full price on all those PLAY titles even though I want them all.

I'm not sure why it took me so long to block that one guy, but all that rape talk finally pushed me over the edge. Also, bravo to everyone calling him out on it. He needs to go back into hibernation and stay there.

With the $$ back it's not as bad as that. But it's not a huge sale. I expect that all four games will be on sale before next July, but if your backlog isn't too bad they look good enough to support the indies. Plus if I can get PS4 AND Vita crossbuy then I'm usually willing to pay a bit more per game.

New blog posts for Hohokum and CounterSpy with some additional info on them along with new trailers:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Du5K_CtwSm8

The Hohokum post has a preview of the theme, which looks bad since it's bright enough to make text hard to read.

I have a ridiculous backlog so I can wait. Plus I already filled my new Vita memory card so I need to clear some space for these awesome games. I look forward to playing them in the future. :)

Hopefully the Sony Rewards site and Paypal will work out whatever issue they're having with each other so that i can get my $20 PSN card in time for this sale, else I will be really upset. I want that Injustice!

Looking at the PS4's PS Store, Rogue Legacy is 778 MB and The Swapper will be 937 MB.

Pre-loading dates for the Play 2014 games:

Rogue Legacy - 7/27

The Swapper - 8/3

Hohokum - 8/10

Nothing mentioned for CounterSpy.

I just saw that Injustice is $8.50! Looks like I'll be trading in my disc version for $13 at Best Buy and buying the digital version
