I'm just curious, but did anybody here purchase Persona 2 Innocent Sin during this sale and try to transfer it to your Vita via your PS3? I mean, I bought it during the sale and Persona 1 and only Persona 1 shows up in the transfer list and Persona 2 IS, even though it's right there, does not show up on the Vita to transfer it.

Anybody else have this issue?

I think it's one of those games that has an exploit in it for CFW people, so it got pulled and can't be transferred/downloaded to Vita until it's fixed and put back up on PSN.

Wait. So it can't currently be played on Vita? Or you just can't transfer it from the PS3 to the Vita? Just want to make sure I am understanding this properly before I spend money on the Persona games.

Transfer/Download to the Vita. If it's already on your Vita, it'll play just fine.

I'm not sure that I could've figured out what The Swapper's trophies were for if I hadn't looked it up. Those special terminals are hidden incredibly well.

So I played that Proteus game they gave us on PS+ and I have to say I have never been so bored in my entire life while playing a game before.Seriously Sony could have given us something better than that crap.

How do the PS1 games look on the vita? I want to play Persona 3 but I'm afraid it may look like crap on the vita.
If you're talking about the Persona 3 Portable that's on sale, it's a PSP update of the game (which was originally a ps2 game), and it looks great on the vita. I recently played it after finishing Persona 4 Golden. I was worried I'd be a bit taken aback by a drop in graphic quality going from the vita version of 4 to the psp version of 3, but it wasn't that way at all.

yeah, well it's back up on the PSN store because that's how I bought it and it's even listed as Vita compatible, so I'm not even sure; maybe it's an error on Sony's part when they put it back onto the shop?

I did see somebody else say they got it to work, so maybe it got fixed in the few days since I've last tried, so I'm going to redownload it and try to put it on there again (the one already on there won't transfer)

Bought Chrono Cross and Front Mission 3. I have them in disc form but the PSP makes PSone games look great tho. Parasite Eve and Vagrant Story would of been nice as well SE. :p

Persona 3 Portable looks great on the PlayStation Vita.  I feel that it benefits from the OLED screen and everything looks pretty sharp overall, but you may want to do that graphics adjustment where you can use the original color spectrum from the PSP if you feel the colors are too saturated.  Personally, I thought it looked fantastic, but tastes vary.

As for the actual gameplay content, Persona 3 Portable was in many ways an improvement over the original PS2 release from my understanding.  You have the option to go through the game as a female protagonist with unique social links and music themes.  You also get the benefit of being able to control all your characters manually like you could in Persona 4, which definitely led to me using Mitsuru a lot more because the AI was not having her try to charm enemies that can not be charmed.  The AI in the Persona games is fairly competent, but if you're playing on the harder difficulties, you understand that hitting an elemental resist or wasting a turn can easily lead to defeat.  I cannot really comment on the missing FES content from Persona 3:  FES for PS2 since I never played it.

In any case, $4.99 for this game is such a ridiculous bargain that I feel every PSP / PS Vita owner should have it if they even have the slightest inclination toward RPG's.

From what I gather (I've only played portable but researched it a lot when deciding which version to get), the main missing content involves some missing/altered cutscenes and changing the game from a free-roaming adventure to more of an isometric point-and-click style outside of the dungeons (still full free-roaming in dungeons) to accommodate the psp's limitations. There's also an epilogue quest added to FES that people have mixed feelings about that's not present in portable (or in the original).

But the improvements in gameplay (like changes to the battle system to make it more like Persona 4), ease of movement, additions like the female protagonist's quest and extra difficulty levels (basically very easy and very hard), etc, are apparently enough to make a lot of people consider this the best version of the game. It's the only version I've played (coming from Persona 4 Golden) and I loved it.

And, yes, you'll be happy to have control over your party. To be honest, I still left it on auto for most of the game...and it was fairly competent...but there were a few bosses with specific weakness or the ability to reflect attacks back at the party where the AI just did really stupid things (like there were times when a boss would cast something to reflect physical attacks, and Junpei would one-hit-kill himself without fail every time the boss cast it).

Does anyone have an opinion on Front Mission 3? For $3, I might dive in.
I put over a 100 hours into it back when it released in the late 90s and loved every minute. I tried to play it again a couple of years ago and couldn't get into it. I've been too spoiled by srpgs like Disgaea and Fire Emblem. There have been so many great advances in strategy games.

FM3's animations are all painfully slow and they happen every time you fire. There's still a fun game in there, but it's just too slow and plodding a system for me today.

Well,Obviously I know we got other games I'm just saying they could have picked something that was actually a game.
I enjoyed the hour I played. I would qualify it as a game. Opinions are infinite.
I actually bought it a while back, and I thought it was great, have played through multiple times, and didn't regret spending money on it. Also some cool hidden events in there if you're trying for the trophies. It's a game. And it does have a beginning and end. It's more of an artsy/conceptual game, though...with sort of a Journey-esque allegory/metaphorical thing going on.

But, yes, opinions are infinite. I'd personally rather play through Proteus a dozen more times than play through a Call of Duty game once. But to each his/her own.

I probably would have picked up Proteus on sale for $3 or so eventually.   I haven't tried it yet, but it saved me money being on ps+ so whatever.

Every once in awhile I check how well ps+ is treating me.  For example, if I look at my 'buy' prices this month (that is, the price i might have broken down and bought it at given a nice sale):

Fez -  $5

Road Not Taken - probably $10

Crysis 3 - $0 (2 was a buggy mess, have no faith in it and would rather play ps4 fps games)

Metrico -  Hard to tell, it's a platformer but i think enough people would say it's good that i'd buy at 3.

Dragon's Crown  - probably $10 sale

Proteus -  $3

So that's approximately $31 I would have spent if all the target 'sales prices'  had happened over the course of the next year or so.   That's more than I spend on ps+ for a year.   Which means I'm not just happy with this month, i'm ecstatic.

Last month was worse, $10 or less (i already owned muramasa)... but even that isn't bad considering it's a single month out of the year.  $10 x 12 would be $120.

I figure since we don't get to 'keep' the games (well, most of us are permanently enrolled anyway) I want to get around $60 - $90 in value over the course of the year (somewhere between double and triple value per ps+ dollar spent, so I suppose $150ish for someone that doesn't buy subs on sale).   I generally get that in 3-6 months, meaning the rest of the year is gravy.

Add in the great discounts we see with ps+, which alone would easily pay for a year of ps+... and it's hard to be mad at sony if they put up a game I have no interest in here and there.

Heck, I'd probably pay $30 just for the ps+ version of drive club coming out soon.  To think that one game pretty much justifies the entire cost of admission for a year for me, meaning all the rest of the games are gravy, is rather mind boggling.

:/ I just.. need to stop investing in sony games
My rule of thumb basically is unless I plan to play it immediately, I don't buy the vanilla version of digital games unless they are $3.75 or less. At that price I don't feel like I am losing that much if it eventually goes to PS+. There are some exceptions to the rule, for instance if I had a PS4 I probably would bought the UE of Injustice since if that ever goes free it will be the vanilla version only.

Y'know, I liked what I played of Persona 3, but after playing Persona 4 Golden, I doubt I'd go back to it. I think the storyline in the latter game is much more compelling and the goal is more urgent. Persona 3 had you climbing a tower to kill monsters, but Persona 4 has you rescuing your friends from a dark world inside the television set, while hunting for their would-be killer. I also like the concept of each character's flaws manifesting themselves as an alter ego. Rather than denying these negative thoughts, they must accept and embrace them, giving the heroes more dimension.

I've been playing the multiplayer for Crysis 3. Turns out it's really fun. Glad they gave that one to us for free.

Also bought the game of thrones game for 2.99. Haven't played it but just having the music play in the background when you hover over the game is almost worth 3 bucks by its self.

Really? I liked Persona 3 way more than 4 because I couldn't get past the ridiculousness of someone killing people by sucking them into their televisions and leaving them in a Who Framed Roger Rabbit-esque world. The characters coming to grips with their alter-egos manifested felt like an after-school special to me. And I still remember the controversy over Persona 3 when the characters point the guns to their heads to summon their Personas.

I just finished Persona 4 a couple weeks ago. I really enjoyed the story and characters. Loved the epilogue/"true" ending. Didn't enjoy the dungeon encounters at all, though. Had I not played on vita I'm certain I wouldn't have finished. Suspend/resume really helped with breaking up the dungeon monotony.

From what I'm told by others here the P3P dungeons are even more of a drag. Less variety since it's just one tower? The different locales (especially the last few) are the only thing I actually liked about P4G's so without them I can't see myself sitting through floors and floors of the same shit. Too bad because I bought it a while back. If they ever give it a proper vita upgrade perhaps. Doubtful that happens.

I'm definitely getting Persona 5 but it'll interesting to see how I fare with that being tethered to a TV. Better be have a damn good story.

I was on the fence about buying it. I will buy it now! Thanks!

Yeah, the dungeons are way better in 4, since they actually change for each chapter you're on unlike in 3 which is just the same dark tartarus the whole game (which at 80 something hours is REALLY dull).

Demos and Betas
Disgaea 4: A Promise Revisited — PS Vita Demo

One thing I really liked about Persona 3 was that in battles you don't only get Persona as rewards but also items, weapons, etc... Also the chests in the dungeon had these same things as well. I don't remember as much variety in 4's chest and battle rewards. They're both great games nonetheless and I actually enjoyed Tardis (I played P3 and P3FES not the PSP version) and the story got me a little more than P4's. It's all in preference though of course. It's worth owning and playing both as well as P2 both games and maybe even P1.

Also I find it hilarious but back when P4 was originally released it got constantly bashed for being almost too similar to P3 except for it being more refined, so it was considered more of the same. Nowadays people put P4 up on a golden pedestal and consider it so amazing, which it is a great game, but we really can't forget what came before it, which is what many game developers want you to do these days. That's likely why we get so many origin stories and revamps and remakes.

Help me figure out what I'm looking at guys.  I want to get the Final Fantasy that was III in the US on the SNES.  As I understand it, that's FF VI on the PS store.  But then what the heck is the game labeled just FF III?

Are they the same game?  Or is it like the Tactics games were the PS One version is 4:3 and the PSP one is 16:9?  Help!

FFIII on SNES is FFVI on PS1. FFIII on PSP is the real FFIII that only got a release in Japan until the DS remake several years ago, which is where this PSP version came from.

Yeah, the dungeons are way better in 4, since they actually change for each chapter you're on unlike in 3 which is just the same dark tartarus the whole game (which at 80 something hours is REALLY dull).
Playing on very easy mode on the psp version lets you pretty much blow through each dungeon part in one sitting without grinding, though, and leaves the rest of the game the same. So, if you don't like the dungeon bits, just play on very easy, and you'll just have to plow through an hour or two of dungeon every in-game month (or maybe a few days a month if you do some of the side quest stuff, which I did).

But, ya, 4 is definitely more refined in just about everything (mechanics, better dungeons, social links/dating, more content and different events, etc)... Yet, even playing 3 after 4, I got sucked into the world/story/gameplay so much that it's hard for me to say one is better than the other. They're both amazing. And the story of 3 takes a little while to get going, but if you stick it out, it gets better and better.

Also, Persona 4 Arena and Persona Q sort of merge the two games and bring them into the same story universe. So if you're interested in those games, it's probably worth playing both 3 and 4.

I need some help deciding which FF games to get!

So Origins is the only way to play FF 1&2 on Vita? Are there any issues with it? Why aren't the PSP versions from a few years ago on PSN?

Are any of 3-6 the "best" version? Besides 3, they all have long loading times, ect.. right? I'd rather play them on DS or GBA unless the PS1 version is better.

Are FF 7-9 all native PS1 games? No problems with them on Vita right?

I'm torn on which Tactics to get. I'm leaning toward the PSP one though. I've never played it or that style game.

Front Mission 3, yes or no?

Any help is much appreciated!

Square Enix has designed their business model for their classics around not giving fans what they want, so we get the PS1 versions of FFI/FFII as our only option despite EU PSN getting the PSP remakes.

3 and 4 are the best versions of those games around since they're remakes of the originals. 4 has the episodic sequels that were released on WiiWare, though the feedback on them wasn't the greatest. 4 looks fantastic on the Vita.

7-9 were all original PS1 games, so they work really well on Vita.

I've never been a fan of Tactics, so I can't really speak on which is better.

FM3 may be on sale for the first time, so I got it for that reason alone if they're never going to put the PS2 sequel on PSN.

akibas trip and disgaea 4 39.99 each?
cancel my LE for disgaea. Thinking of getting it at best buy or target ( 100% target if they carry it but was told they wont)

Had to pay out a 200 buck doctor bill today (freaking stray cat bite me last night. needed shot and meds) fuck take a lot out of my time money. Though i should get AKIBAS TRIP vita gamefly shipped tomorrow so at least that is something .

It depends on what you mean by the best for 4. Like Persona 3 and Final Fantasy Tactics, you'll hear varying opinions for each version. The GBA version is the only one as far as I know to have the Lunar Ruins, an extra dungeon that was cut out of the original version, and another dungeon where you can get ultimate weapons for your characters. Then there's the stellar 3D remake by Matrix Software - they also did the 3D remake for 3, the one currently on sale - which is a more modern game with party chat and other gameplay enhancements. It was also ported to iOS and Android not too long ago.

It has more post-campaign story content to it than any other version out there.
