speaking of Ni No Kuni, I'm 6 hours into the game and it's been rather slow and dull...I mean sure the art and music is fantastic but the story, dialogue and progression is putting me to sleep from time to time

maybe it's not my cup of tea, but I'll likely grind through it for the full experience, hoping it gets better

Where are you story-wise? For me, the game didn't pull me in until the seaside town.

I didn't like the story (at any point). Too saccharine for my tastes and I'm a huge Ghibli fan. May have been the pacing that did me in, idk. But like you said, the art and music are wonderful.

Welp, just threw $50 to get the Robotech DVD set from Amazon along with book 1-3. I didn't even know there were Robotech novels. For a little bit I was considering buying all of them at once, but that would quadruple my reading pile. 

Man, it was so much easier when I was growing up and didn't have a disposable income . . .

I remember hurrying up and unloading a bunch of my old PS1 games as soon as I heard rumors that they were going to start being offered on the PSN. Sold physical copies of FF 7, 8, 9, Tactics, Lunar, Castlevania SotN, and a bunch of other games while they were still fetching good money on ebay. Thank goodness I did it. I expected the market price on them to fall but not nearly as much as they actually did.

Spoke to many people here at Xbox press conference on Tomb Raider. Official line is that the game is "exclusive on Xbox for holiday 2015."

I got upset when I first heard about this, but I'd be shocked if it turns out to be 100% exclusive to XBone.

Yea it's definitely going to be a timed exclusive. I really hate timed exclusives, either make the game exclusive or not.
 
Definitely sounds like a timed exclusive.  And it would appear that it will hit PS4 fairly soon after the holidays.

Does anybody really care though?  I loved the reboot but with October and November always providing such a flood of games, will anybody but the most die hard fans think anything of it knowing it is still coming out on the Playstation?

What's to hate about timed exclusives? Rise won't be a system seller, so I don't get MS's motivation, but all that really matters is whether a game is going to make it to our platform of choice. There's enough content coming down the pipe (and that's true for both XB1 and PS4) that it'll be easy to reshuffle your playlist and work on something something great come November/December 2015 (that's a looooong way off!) and Rise when it hits PS4 the following year.
 
Tomb Raider was easily in my top 5 last year, so a little bummed. But as an equal opportunity system owner I'll just have to decide if I need it day one.

I just dislike the fact that Sony and MS are putting money towards buying timed exclusives from third parties when i'd rather see them spend that money on first party games that are truly exclusive. I'm sure it's much cheaper for them, but timed exclusives are a complete waste of money from my perspective since there is always plenty to play. The only time the timed exclusive might make sense and matter to me is when a console is brand new and doesn't have many titles yet.

Sure, THAT's an exclusive, but Rise of the Tomb Raider: <Bizarre Subtitle> , a completely "new" game, will probably come out multiplatform in a year, like Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2. Even Mass Effect 1 which was tangled up with Microsoft funding eventually found its way to a Sony platform.

Agree 100%. I will believe it when the PS 5 hits stores and Tomb Raider is still exclusive. Until then, I will plan to buy it during a Steam sale in 2017 for five dollars. :)

 
It'll come out for PS4 in either 3, 6, or 12 months.  Most likely 12.  It's a safe bet.  

Timed exclusives are annoying, unless it's a small dev.   For example, I don't mind if a 3-10 person team develops a game and needs to spend a couple months per port to new system.   If a company helps them out and asks them to bring it to their system first... well, that makes sense.  They simply can't afford to have every version complete at the same time, so picking one to be 'first' then working on the ports is perfectly reasonable.

But for something like Tomb Raider?  Just stupid politics.  It's the difference between a company paying money to help a dev get the game finished  vs. paying money to keep a company from releasing a game.

 
Sony presentation at Gamescom will be streamed in about 45 minutes (10 pst, 1 est).    It's Europe's E3.   Expect a few new announcements,  some gameplay of stuff we've only seen trailers of, etc.   Probably no huge bombshells but you never know.    This is a SCEE event so we're not going to hear about stuff SCEA or Sony Japan are doing.   So if the game or studio you're hoping for isn't SCEE (ie, TLG) then lower expectations.

On the plus side we are likely to hear about some Vita stuff since Shahid works for SCEE.

Welcome to the club. It would probably take me 10-15 years to clear all the games I have on my vita. Such a perfect little device, I have no regrets.

I very much enjoyed the game. I like the combat system (some people hate it, I don't understand why). The art is obviously beautiful, but the story is a bit slow. Sweet, but slow.

It's biggest fault is certain mechanics (like helping npcs) that seem like they're gong to be interesting puzzles are always presented like tutorials (as in, completely explained what you need to do) even the 50th time you're doing it.

I bought it day 1 and plat'd it, and it was a great experience overall. But it wasn't the story/dialog that got me through it.

 
I'll also jump on the ni no kuni was no fun bandwagon.  I loved everything but the game itself,  I had it downloaded from he EU store to kill off some gbp.  i ended up deleting it because i cared more about the space it took up than the game itself.



As far as the TR deal goes.  I loved the new Tomb Raider,  but I think this will force Sony to step up their game more and give PS owners a better version.  if it is even completely exclusive.  It was a solid game, but it doesn't make me think it is a system seller.  Maybe MS is just picking off titles to try to eat away at Sony.

Ditto. Got my Vita with the BL2 bundle. Wanted it just for Rogue Legacy, and love everything about it. I like it and the games on it better than my kids 3DS.

I love my 64g, though I probably have 128g worth of games at this point so really just want infinite storage. My only real issue at this point is deciding which to play next... do I play something short and sweet to clear up space? Replay a classic? Take on a 100 hour srpg? Just play some pinball or super stardust or txk? Play some Road Not Taken via remote play?

I'm actually at that point right now, deciding what vita game to play next.

I'm getting Natural Doctrine next month via some amazon credit i had, so I think i'm going to go with 'clear some space'.

I'm about 25 hours into FFX. I have no clue what I will play next. Too many options!

 
Just dropped 110 hours into Rainbow Moon on Vita. I too am floundering with where to go next with my ~15 Vita games.

Although, helping matters, my right analog stick is busted, so that helps me choose which games to not play

 
I'm a bit jealous that XB1 is going to get DLNA before PS4 and with really broad codec support. It'd be nice to be able to stop transcoding stuff for PS3.

I would rather have a sequel to Outland. That's one of my favorite games this generation. Could you use your clout to persuade them, Frisky? Tell them that if they released a sequel, there's a whole site full of people who would love to grab it on PS+ and add it to their backlogs.
