Does anybody know if the PS1 games on sale (Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, Gex Enter the Gecko, Pandemonium, Tomb Raiders) still hold up today? I always wanted to play these games as a kid, but never got a chance due to lack of income. I'm tempted but don't want buy and play them for a few minutes if they are really bad.

I'm late to the party, but I can say for certain that Soul Reaver is worth playing if you've never played it before. I will also say that the graphics will look dated, but if you can see past it, the art design helps soften that blow. The cutscene looks fantastic, the voice acting is magnificent. The only drawbacks are that the textures are going to look a little muddy, and the audio (for walking, anyway) is pretty compressed. The music is CD-quality, and when it isn't driving and memorable, it's atmospheric. Going between the Material Realm and the Spectral Realm is seamless, which is amazing seeing the PS1 do.

I prefer Legacy of Kain on Dreamcast.

By virtue of being double or quadruple the power of the PS1, yeah, the dreamcast port of Soul Reaver is always going to look and sound superior. I just wish we could get an HD version of that on PSN or XBLA.

It would have been great if Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara was playable on Vita. I mean hard would it have been to port it over.

Yeah, that is a shame, but you could always just play Dragon's Crown for your side scrolling RPG fix. One of my first purchases on the Vita was the digital versions of Capcom Collection Remixed and Reloaded. Those are great on the go particularly if you enjoy old school Capcom side scrollers. The game selection is great (all their great old arcade games, minus Willow and D&D for likely licensing reasons - and they add in the SNES Super Ghosts n' Goblins), but the second one locks the cheats/music/art behind a stupid slot machine that requires a great amount of time and luck to unlock what you want.

Anyone who cares about these classic Capcom arcade games really should pick them both up, they are a steal at $9.99 each digitally.

Not to mention old quarter eaters (of which Capcom made some of the best) are fantastic for a portable with a smaller screen typically played in brief stints. An emulated 80's arcade game on a big screen can be quite jarring, even with good graphic filtering.

Finding good reviews for MUD motocross vita and Moto GP,  and WRC gets great user reviews but some bad reviews by critics (some stellar ones too).  Cel Damage price is right, solid user reviews.

Putting off Ridge Racer because it looks like too much is locked behind DLC.    Skipping Driver 76 because it looks like a poor man's gta on psp... though it might be fun.   On the fence about carbon.  Dropping WRC 4 because I was wrong about the price -- it's $15.99.  WRC 3 will have to suffice for now.

My cart is still sitting at $30... which is a fair price for the pile of games I'd be getting, but I really didn't want to spend so much so... decisions, decisions.

I seem to remember hearing that Driver 76 was good. Metacritic would disagree with me though. I probably own it on UMD and never played it.

Cel Damage was not good on the original Xbox. Just a lot of cheap deaths. I can't report on the Playstation ports.

Maybe I will get Burnout Crash. I know it's not great, but I think it will be 2.49 adequate.

That's the best price you're going to find for Max. Capcom vs. SNK 2 is also a great price. Street Fighter III has been cheaper (multiple times) on Xbox 360.

So hey, that racing sale. It's a little underwhelming (c'mon, no Burnout?!), but I'll be able to get Need for Speed for the Vita for a terrific price, so I can't really complain!

Incidentally, for that price, Dragon's Dogma is a great pick-up.  Try out the demo, fun game, gets a bit repetitive since there is no variation to basic enemy spawns, but with all the classes you have a ton of different ways to approach combat.

if you haven't played any, I'd guess you'd like an arcade racer more than any sort of sim (but I could be wrong).

I'd say NFS:HP, NFS:MW, Split Second, and Motorstorm would be $20 well spent.

4 very different experiences, all fantastic racers.

NFS: HP = lots of cop chases, fixed courses with short cuts, top notch sense of speed

NFS: MW = open world NFS.

Split Second = as you race you earn a sort of 'power up' that lets you set off major course changing events -- like blowing up a huge building, or whatever, preferably timing it so it helps you and hurts everyone else.

Motorstorm Apocalpse = Even more arcade-y than the others, but extremely well done. Race while the world falls apart around you.
