Yep, "Hai Guyz, we finally perfected a version of windows that most everyone loves, let's scrap it all and do something completely different this time!"

No way. You get used to it. Also, all the core features of Windows 7 are still there. It just looks different.
Ya I just spent the last 3 hours turning Windows 8 back into Windows 7 the best I can. The 8.1 update is quite useful. And as for my critiques of Windows 8, I'm only talking about the UI. I don't know anything about what else it does. But that "Metro" style is just awful IMO without a touch interface.

I don't like Windows 8 either.

On another unrelated note I replaced my busted PS3 with the Black Friday bundle that everyone was pushing. Now I can finally get into these plus games that have been pilling up. Feeling really lazy though and not sure if I want to put my 500gb drive in there.

So here's a question: I ordered a PS3 and a couple of PS Plus subscriptions. It seems like I can redeem them online, but I really want Dragon's Dogma, and it's going to leave the Instant Game Collection before I receive my PS3. Is there any way for me to 'download' the game without having my account linked to an existing PS3?

Unrelated, but I got a cheap new laptop from Best Buy last night. Windows 8 is the worse thing ever.
As someone who just jumped from windows XP to 8, its better than i expected. Mind you i just installed classic shell and always boot into classic/desktop mode.

The panes and such are sort of cool though. Also didnt realize it was integrated with Xbox Live (Even though i dont use it)

What I've learned from my first 90 minutes of R&C: Crates are the most dangerous and plentiful thing in the universe and must be destroyed at all costs.

Also, I was able to get one of my PS+ codes to go through on my Vita.  Got disconnected when trying to redeem the 2nd one.

Also also, this is a great time to remind everyone to SHUT OFF AUTO RENEW!

You can "purchase" it without having to attempt to download it if you use the web store. Then when you get your PS3, it will be available to download.

Edit: Assuming you can enter the code before Tuesday. Currently you can't enter codes allegedly (2 of my PSN $ codes aren't working cause of the code lockout).

It should just be added to your "purchase history" and can all be done via the web site. As long as you add it to your cart and checkout (just make sure the price it's listed as free) it will remain in your purchase history for as long as you have plus (and be added back in to your list if you let your Plus subscription lapse and renew it later on).

Even without a PS3 connected to the account? Awesome.

Thanks, man.

I was under the impression it's not possible to redeem PS+ codes on the online store, only on consoles.
I'm pretty sure that you can redeem them online. I found the form. Just haven't tried yet.

You need a system (vita or PS3) to redeem a PS+ card. If one of your friends owns a PS3, you could create a new profile, create a PSN account, redeem a PS+ card, and then you can add all the free games either through the system or the web store.

Correct - you can only redeem PSN money codes on the webstore. DLC codes and PS+ Sub codes have to be redeemed on a system.
DLC codes work fine on the web store, it's really just subs. I guess they want you at least have bought something from them before you start banking games.

As long as you add the game to your account while it was on plus, it would still be available to download at a later date from your downloads list. However, only for as long as you are a plus subscriber.
You can add the games to your account from the web store.

I have taken the plunge and got my first ps3 ( delivery for 12/3/13 ) I think I made a mistake as I bought a couple of games with it-- One of the games is Uncharted 3. I will be starting my ps+ account once I get my console. I can download Uncharted 3 for free right? so I need to return that game??-- this instant collection is confusing since I can't seem to find when these offers expire/change- thanks for any advice
The free PSN version only allows co-op play to level 15. I sold my copy of UC3 like 6 months after it came out. I picked up PS+ in July downloaded UC3 so I could play online with a friend and then after a couple hours figured out they wanted me to pay for an online pass since I was past the level.

http://www.naughtydog.com/games/uncharted_freetoplay_faq/

Depending on what you payed for UC3 I would probably keep it if you have any interest in the online play.

Is there another round of sale expected on PSN storefront? Just noticed this while browsing through the current sale.

Wait until you add Tearaway to that list. It is sublime, and not just by vita standards.
Really? I think it looks cool and am excited to play it and all..but is it worth buying @ full asking price?

Ended up grabbing Jak and Daxter Vita for $15 from Amazon. I'm such a sucker for the "collection" games.
Good deal man. The technical issues reported in the game are way overblown, at least from my experience. The only negative IMO is that the games themselves haven't aged particularly well.

Tearaway is phenomenal but it's short. You can collect everything in the game in around 8-10 hours. It takes better advantage of the vita than any other game as far as touch controls are concerned. It relies on artistic style rather than a technical production like Killzone but that also means that it would probably look the same on a PS4. And it is gorgeous. It's a reason to own a vita if you want exclusive experiences that take advantage of what the vita is.

i thought the first jak was still a fun mario 64 style platformer. the 2nd and 3rd ones were just godawful to try to go back to though.

As I said before, the Jak series has a sharp decline in quality over it's lifetime. As Yanks said, the Vita versions aren't that bad. The games suck way too much for me to play again.

And I'm glad PSN at least warns us before it' storing to flash us. I wish that homeless guy in the alley last night had the same manners.

Good impression. Maybe I will take the plunge this weekend. I still regret not buying Dragon's Crown when it first came out, and now I have waited so long that I won't accept a 29.99 sale price point on it. To justify not buying it @ launch, now I have to wait until it hits $20 or less. I don't want to do the same thing with Tearaway.

I can't disagree with that assessment of the first one, but I think my impression is slightly tainted because I played through it when it launched and enjoyed it then.

I think when people ask this question, they should be required to list the last 2 or 3 games they bought for about the same amount as the game in question without regret.

p.s. Tearaway is really nice. The aesthetics of the lighthouse level are especially awesome - second time I've just sat and looked at the scenery of a video game for a few minutes in the past month (first being ac4 on ps4).

The prospect of another sale around the corner is tempting me to dice in for Ascension and Legends Vita while it's on. This could party fund the $60 promotion.

Is it really decline though? I haven't played Jak, but God of War, Gears of War, Halo, Tomb Raider, et. al all suffer from this. Those series didn't get worse, they just didn't feel fresh anymore as you played the sequels. Nothing compares to new.

Yes? Jak II decided it wanted to be Grand Theft Auto for kids. And then Jak 3 was just a clone of the second.

God of War II is usually rated above the first one in terms of quality.

Gears of War sucked from the first game, so I'm not going to argue that.

Halo is a series that generally gets an amazing reception across all iterations. Some people consider Reach to be second to only Halo 2.

Tomb Raider had a serious downfall until the recent reboot.

All these series might have gotten a little stale, or maybe aren't as great as they once were. But when your first game is a solid 6/10 (J&D) and your second and third games are much, much worse, that's really saying something. I won't even go into the other Jak sequels and that terrible racing game. Naughty Dog really has this thing for driving their franchises into the ground and then selling them off. See: Crash Bandicoot.

Side note: Crash 3: Warped is one of the greatest games of all time.

Not a bad point really, but I will give J&D series some credit in that they tried to mix things up with the sequels. It just didn't turn out that well.

The only game I probably could say was well worth the full asking price is Amy.

Hey, guys, I believe the PSN code redemption nonsense has been resolved.

Really? I think it looks cool and am excited to play it and all..but is it worth buying @ full asking price?
If someone asks why you bought a vita (which is often for me, lol), you could easily reply with "Tearaway". Bar none, it's the most ambitious and visually arresting game on the device. The attention to detail is staggering, and they manage to intuitively incorporate each of vita's inputs (even the god awful back touch pad).

Is it worth owning? YES. Is it worth the current asking price? Depends. Mine is from Gamefly, lol, and Best Buy had it on sale for ~$24 last weekend. I'm obviously not an aggressive completionist (as evidenced by my true trophies standing), but I've had little trouble seeing almost everything it has to offer in the few days I've played. In short, it's short. But, again, it depends on what you want from it. I have too many "meaty" games as is, so I'm not bothered by that. It's very rare that I pull out my vita at work or with my non-gaming family/friends and say, "look. at. this. shit". Haha, I've done it several times now with Tearaway. Oh, and if you have kids, they will love it. /rant

Has anyone actually used one of the direct from Sony protection plans?  Do they give any hassle when you use it or is it pretty straightforward?  If you don't get the 'accidental' damage plan is it harder to get a repair taken care of?  I was relatively impressed with how easy it was to get my Vita repaired when I had an issue with it under regular warranty so this seems like a good way to go.  Info appreciated.
