Can someone give me the details in how PS store sales usually work? I just got a PSVR so there are a bunch of VR games that I'm newly interested in.

Like with Xbox, sales go live every Monday night in advance of a Tuesday announcement, and sales generally last a week. Is there a similar setup for PSN?

Apparently Remedy is offering a free upgrade to the PS5 edition of Control if you buy their NEW ultimate edition that's coming out in the next month, but current owners of just the game will not get that luxury. It HAS to be the Ultimate Edition.

As a current owner not sure why that sucks. When I bought Control over a year ago when it came out I didn't expect that buying it on PS4 entitled me to every version they release of it going forward.

What if you bought the Digital Deluxe Edition? Does that count? If not that is horse shit

The big issue here is the fact that the Ultimate Edition is the same game, but just with all the DLC bundled together. It is nothing more than a cash grab to get people to re-buy the game if they want to play it on next gen with the upgrades. All the people who purchased both the game and Season Pass, should be upgraded to the Ultimate Edition for free, especially the early adopters who bought the game day-1. Bethseda is doing it with Doom Eternal for anyone who bought any version of the game. Pretty sure this isn't Remedy, but 505 Games pulling the strings. I have a feeling they will back-peddle if the outrage is pretty high, which by the looks of it, it already is.

US consumer mentality is just ridiculous sometimes. There is NO reason everyone who bought the season pass should automatically be treated the same as people buying the Ultimate Edition now. Earlier adopters got exactly what they paid for, at the price they decided was acceptable to them, and have been able to enjoy the game for all this time. There is no further obligation implied.

Bethesda doing more with Doom Eternal is great goodwill, but it does not obligate any other company to bend over backwards and do the same.

What a time we live in. "High outrage" ( ) should not be a reason for companies everywhere to give more and more shit away for free.

US consumer mentality is just ridiculous sometimes. There is NO reason everyone who bought the season pass should automatically be treated the same as people buying the Ultimate Edition now. Earlier adopters got exactly what they paid for, at the price they decided was acceptable to them, and have been able to enjoy the game for all this time. There is no further obligation implied.

Bethesda doing more with Doom Eternal is great goodwill, but it does not obligate any other company to bend over backwards and do the same.

The Digital Deluxe Edition is the same exact game with a different title. Yet if you buy/bought that, and don't buy the renamed sku, you don't get the free upgrade. While I agree that that 505 is not obligated to even give the upgrade for free to anyone, this is nothing more than a cash grab. You know it, and I know it.

Giving the base game a free upgrade might make people continue to play it and want to buy the DLC. Locking the upgrade behind a full re-purchase of the game is going to turn away pretty much anyone who already gave them any money. It's not the same as people asking for a free remaster of a game that is many years old.

As a current owner not sure why that sucks. When I bought Control over a year ago when it came out I didn't expect that buying it on PS4 entitled me to every version they release of it going forward.

They really aren't comparable since one is a new release and the other requires you to re-buy the game. If you buy the Kobe edition for X1/PS4, you get the SX/PS5 version. I'm not required to buy the game twice just to get the next-gen upgrades.

It's a bundle of both versions, not an upgrade. You're buying the game twice for a bit cheaper than the standalone games.

Sounds like you didn't read my post. I never said anything disputing that some games were getting free upgrades.

I said when I bought Control a year and a half ago I didn't buy it expecting I was going to get a free upgrade to a new system.
