I read something about using L2+R2 to maintain balance. Also not overstacking yourself or carrying too much weight. Honestly, the game sounds more like work than fun.
 
What I've seen of it has been atrocious. And this was watching a Twitch channel specifically dedicated to Kojima games. One guy is intrigued and the other seems to straight up hate it. The polarizing reviews seem accurate.

Serious answer: I can be positive when life gives me occasion to be. I was just being honest based on all the hype surrounding the game for years versus the actual reality of the gameplay. It was teased as being mysterious and intriguing for so long and now it seems to be about wearing a huge pack and delivering shit.

I like indie games, but this just seems to be an indie disguised and wrapped up in a AAA package. I guess I'll reserve actual judgment when me and the rest of the poories find out for ourselves once it hits bargain basement prices.

The result is worse than that, worse than a terrible game: there is no fucking game. It doesn't boot.

Try to go to anything except the tutorial and it shows an error about not being able to connect to the server. That includes the single player mode. Tried half a dozen times over the course of a couple of days. Apparently this is a common enough issue that the Activision website lists a workaround for it, the workaround being to disconnect your PS4 from the internet entirely.

Same. I've been playing through THPS 1-4 on my PlayStation classic and figured it couldn't be that bad.

Once I figured out to disconnect my internet, it wasn't. But it's Bs that the game is so broken you have to do that.

I've seen the positive reviews but none of them refer to the game as fun. They most like it because it's either Kojima or it's "art.". Most reviewers can't even explain what they like about it.

I don't think people are review bombing it. I think they just want to play games that are fun and this ain't it. If you like it great but some people don't.

I mean if I play a game for 1,2 or 3 hours and it's boring it's getting a 1/10. I'm not putting in 10hrs of boredom to get to the good parts. I value my time. Maybe the people rating it on there feel the same?
 
Be careful buying Aerea if you are planning on couch coop. There are huge glitches. sometimes player 1 cant attack, sometimes player 1 constantly stops moving to attack without pressing anything. My kids are getting stuck every few minutes. Googling it says that something is glitchy about the quest menu.

 
sure but i got my kids hyped to play it and they got incredibly frustrated. we had to restart the game 5 times in a half hour.

That's the main problem with the game, I think. There may be something good at the end, but fuck the first 5 hours or so look miserable.
 
Hey all, I’m an occasional lurker over here and usually frequent the Xbox thread, but I just wanted to share some info this evening. If anyone here is a retail worker and uses the Zunos app (you have to be enrolled by a PS rep), you should log in and do the new quiz on Death Stranding, because they’re giving out Digital Deluxe codes for doing it early. Code comes via email, not the app, and the new quiz is short (only 5 questions, plus 2 sections to “read”). Hope this helps someone!

Metacritic is useless for user reviews in my opinion since any idiot can post a "review" with no proof that they've even played a game. Steam is the only place where I put any kind of stock in the user reviews.

That said, Death Stranding seems like a game one just has to experience for themselves. I was very on the fence but decided to stop reading about it and give it a shot because I was just too intrigued to ignore it. Haven't started yet due to finishing up the Outer Worlds Plat but I'm on vacation after tonight so I'll hopefully have plenty of time for DS.

I disagree. The fact that the game plays fine for those hours and has good production values, graphics, music should automatically warrant it above a 4, even if you hate it.
Tons of games are released that are bug crashing messes. (look at tony hawk 5 that was just mentioned). Then there are games like I am Mayo. Those types of games deserve the 0/10 - 2/10. Not something that just isn't interesting to you but has obvious effort put into it.

So I’ve played about three hours of death stranding so far and I’ve been enjoying it. Is it a glorified walking simulator? Technically, yes. But it’s the most detailed and polished walking sim ever made. I used to be an avid hiker/ backpacker in my teens and early twenties and this game really nails that feeling. It sounds dumb but applying my real world knowledge of map reading and pack loading has made getting from point A to B very easy. It’s been funny seeing other players ladders and ropes in weird places when there was a much easier path nearby. The BT sections add a nice intensity and just reminds me of metal gear sneaky style.

So will you like this game? I think it depends on your previous kojima experiences. If you’ve enjoyed his work you’ll most likely enjoy this, if you think he’s a crazy man who trips acid when making these games, you may still enjoy.......or not.

I doubt this mini impression has cleared things up if you’re on the fence, just Redbox it, and see if you enjoy throwing poop grenades at ghosts. And yes that’s actually a part of the game.

I've actually always loved exploring in video games when the developers made that part of the game fun in some way and it seems like that is exactly what Death Stranding is. I've also seen plenty of reviews that say the game is fun and explain on a mechanics and system level why they thought that, and it's similar to a lot of the stuff you've said here. I thought the Skill Up review was quite good as he goes into detail about just traversing the world and how satisfying that can be. Not to mention the multiplayer stuff which personally I think looks really cool.

I don't really think that means the game is for everyone of course, but then what game is really. But I just finished playing Breath of the Wild for the first time and legit my favorite part of the game was the climbing system as it really felt like you were planning out a path on how you were going to get from point a to point b. I thought to myself numerous times that I would love a game that was the exploration part of that blown up into its own thing with a bunch of different systems to support it. This kinda looks like it.

 
Pro Tip for Death Stranding: When you come upon a useful sign, ladder, anchor point, or whatever that you can like, mash the touchpad to get them a bunch of likes since you can give more than one and has a few seconds to give them out to help out that player.

 
Is Death Stranding kind of like a survival game? At least in the sense you need to manage equipment and meters? I enjoyed Conan Exiles and No Man's Sky VR. If I need to collect stuff to stay alive, keep my equipment working, and unlock stuff I might enjoy the game.

For the most part. Health isn't really an issue early on, but stamina, blood level, package damage, and balance are the big things for the early parts of the game.

 
I have two Death Stranding preorder bonus codes to give away to anyone who picked up the game without preordering it and didn't get a code. It comes with a PSN avatar that looks like the Kojima Productions logo, a dynamic theme, and gold versions of some in-game items that your character can wear.

Dunno why Best Buy sent me these two codes. I had the game on preorder ages back (only one copy) and ended up canceling it after deciding the package delivery stuff just wasn't for me. The first two people who quote this post to ask for a code can have one.

It's not really that close outside some of the side stuff that is more of a crib of Forza Horizon stuff. It's more like NFS Rivals in style.

I think I recall someone posting about ebay having them on sale for 39$. But that may be over with. If it isn't you should check and see if they still have that 3$ off promo going on and use that to knock it down to $36 in theory.
