Sigh, I really want to pre-order Persona 5 R Phantom Thieves Edition from Best Buy before my GCU runs out in March. But I’ve already sunk 170hrs into the original game and my wife and I are expecting our first kiddo the end of February. Responsible adult me says don’t do it, but gamer me who has FOMO says throw it in the backlog! Help me CAG fathers, can one game and change diapers without pissing off the wife!?

Please don’t take my goofy post the wrong way, I’m extremely excited to be a dad. Not to mention I can pass my backlog to my son so he can not play everything too.

Echo, as a father of two kids and a dog, I'd say pass on this. You've spent a lot of time on the first game. Once the baby comes, you'll find game time to be cut. And to be pessimistic, you and your wife will soon be bickering about who needs to do what. So playing a game will add fuel to that fire. Not sure about your finances, but babies are a drain. You'll go through formula, diapers, clothes, wipes, and everything else like water so save that deluxe edition money for your future costs. Maybe save money in the future for Golden/Royal/Monarchy edition of Persona 6. Good luck with the baby. Trust me, tell your wife to hold the baby in for as long as possible. You're going to miss this free time you have now.

To be honest, having a baby is a miraculous thing. But at times it's hard to enjoy those moments when you're fatigued and stressed. My kids are in elementary school now and I have forgotten their infant years which is a blessing and sad. But it's almost like trauma that you repressed. Hope this helps

Thanks! Yeah I know what I should do. It’s just a feeble attempt to hang on to a hobby. We’re the last couple in our group of friends to have a kid, so I get just as many horror stories about sleep depravity as I do about enjoying every moment of it. On to the next level of life.

You'll be trying to sleep those first six weeks, unless you are getting the limited version just wait it out.

I would skip persona 5 remixy but you won’t lose your hobby. The best thing at the start is to sleep when you get free time. Don’t stay up to game. As you get the hang of it and the baby sleeps a little more “regularly” you can put in some short gaming sessions. Soon you’ll have the free time back during nap times and early bedtimes and you can play catch-up. Then one day little one can inherit your hobby but don’t be some douche who breaks their awesome innocence early with games they’re not ready for, keep it E or anything Nintendo. FYI a switch lite is a hella good investment for those baby sleeping on you or rocking them moments. Consoles will have to wait.
 
Anyway have an update on Trophy Passes? Or is everyone still waiting? Kind of hoping for an update soon to grab some stuff after redeeming a $10 card or two.

The next level is awesome. The most gaming I ever did during a summer was after my son was born in May (I’m a teacher, so a lot of gaming is done during the summer). I stayed up with my son in between feedings each night until early morning so my wife could sleep between feedings. I thought I was going to use my vita a lot, but I just burned through 20+ games of my ps3 backlog. Loved every minute of it! Although I do enjoy a good nights sleep also...

Just checked mine and nothing so far. Passes are gone, but I had 10 platinums before they were removed so I should get credit for them whenever they decide to get around to doing it.

If Death Stranding wins GOTY, that might be our best chance to see discounts. God of War won last year and it fell all the way to $9.99 this BF. Hopefully we won't have to wait that long to see it in the $20 range.

I think the way it works is: as soon as you let your subscription lapse, then all the good free games and great deals come flooding in. My Plus expires the first week of 2020 (before the games are released on 1/7), which means January will be the best historic month for Plus in years.

I'm going the opposite way of the other dads here a bit. First, only you can decide if you want to go through the whole of Persona 5 again. However, just playing games with a newborn is not the dire "dead-stop" that you might think. I played a big chunk of Persona 3 with newborn twins and potty-training and sleep training a 18-24 month old. It actually was one of the *best* games to play as, being turn based, I could stop at any time. There were many times I would take the twins put on Persona and let my wife sleep while the twins laid next to me.

Now, quite honestly, I got more playing time in while they were little before baseball, football, basketball, track, strings, etc had me leaving the house to be with them. Once you get used to the sporadic sleeping schedule, you still will have a bit of gaming time between feedings/diaper changes. Just know they will be 'staccato' sessions and not the marathon days of high school/college.

 
Yeah, don't let yourself think that parenthood means the end of gaming.  While having small children, I've sunk about 170 hours in to Monster Hunter World and 100-something hours into Smash Ultimate.  With a newborn, who can't go anywhere and sleeps most of the time, just stick the baby in your lap and game between feedings.  This has the added benefit of letting mommy sleep while you game, which she will no doubt appreciate.

I have a 2 year old and it has relegated my gaming to when she naps and then after she goes to bed at night. 100% worth it though. Kids are awesome.

 
Has anybody played Extinction? I was thinking about getting it from GameStop's 4 for $20, but it has poor reviews. It looks like it has a lot of potential, but it's apparently riddled with technical problems that suck out any fun to be had.
 
I have 4 kids from ages 6mos to 7 years. When they go to bed, my wife gets the main TV while the baby nurses. I play switch on handheld 90% of the time, and stare longingly at my ps4 pro and the 40+, games that sit there, unplayed.
 
Thanks for the input CAG parents. Sounds like my switch will get the most attention between caring for my kid and wife. My wife is a morning person and I’m a night owl, so I have a feeling we’ll be taking “shifts” to let each other rest. Again, I really appreciate everyone’s input and different viewpoints and sorry if I derailed the thread. Back to the deals! Or lack there of?

My guess is that’s it’s real and not coming til January or February and they didn’t want it to affect holiday sales in the meantime.

Seems like getting a vita would be a decent investment for you for the remote play feature. Though not all games are compatible with it and quality varies on internet connection and how heavy the game is. Like you can play tales of berseria on it but I wouldn't really rec doing that since it doesn't run as well and since it's real time combat any lag can be an issue. That and controlling your air surf board is pretty difficult due to the lack of buttons for it on the vita.

Do you have a computer somewhere? You can plug a DS4 controller into it via USB (or buy the wireless adapter) and use remote play to play the PS4 on your computer screen.

It's extra bad, and I typically can tolerate bad games. It's also cheap - you'll start the stage and the monster's already destroying the town. And it's beyond repetitive. Seriously not worth your time by any stretch of the imagination.

That's a shame. I also have a high tolerance for bad games, but I've seen others like us say there's no redeeming it.
 
In a couple days you won't be able to purchase the Dreams early access anymore. December 8, 11:59 PM GMT is the deadline. If you purchase it you can keep playing it up to the full game's release, and you get the full game with the early access purchase.

If you don't buy the early access before it's pulled then you'll have to wait until the full game is released to play it. The full game is rumored to be released February 14, 2020. I've heard the full game is going to cost $30. Same price as the early access version. Unless you really want to play Dreams over the next two months you probably don't have to jump on the early access purchase.

I have one. I'm actually working towards a full game set. Our internet is not very good, we have comporium, which is a local monopoly, whom acts like it, so i haven't tried. And I'm perfectly content to play my switch, but it's just annoying that the times when I may want to play something on my other system, I'm either too tired, or im not allowed to play games that let me blast a hole into something, or beat up and stab a hooker because it's "inappropriate"
 
Xbox Ultimate Game Pass is now only 5 cents a day if you turn on automatic renewal, I wish that PS+ was only 5 cents a day. That's $18.25 a year.
 
Apparently it takes 5 cents out of your bank account each day. Or, off of a gift card, if you have one loaded into your account.
 
Dad + vita is great while they're little.
Gaming time went down, and i tend to like racing and open world type games more...
My oldest and i are working our way through dragon quest together. Super slow, couple hours per month. We found if he gets too much screen time it's all he wants, but if he gets very little he's far, far better overall mood wise.

I do wonder what Microsoft will end up doing here when they finally change this. I can't imagine that those of us who chose that option right now will get to stay locked into it forever.

Just bought a PS4 slim black Friday week. What should I be doing with the warranty? I tried searching "warranty" on PSN but nothing popped up. I remember there was a warranty for additional year for $50 but can't find it now.

How can I extend the warranty like I used to years ago and where do I register?

If there has been some change let me know what the best course of action is for a new PS4 owner.

Sony doesn't sell warranty extensions in the U.S. anymore. You'd have to get it through the retailer that sold it to you (past the manufacturer's 1 year warranty anyway).
 
My suggestion would be to not get an extended warranty. You have a one year warranty anyway. A year from now IF it breaks out of warranty you can probably get a new one pretty cheap anyway
