Played the beta, started to make my own game but the controls were complex. Not one of the experts could tell me how to do what I wanted to do, and now if I went back to finish it I would be lost since I forgot most of what I learned.

I didn't play anything that was particularly noteworthy either. I think the ultimate fate of Dream is gonna be good idea but overly complicated.

As a heads up, it's $40 since it's out of early access on Friday.

I did a lot of work on a game I wanted to make, but didn't get around to finishing it up. It's a really well done game engine that is pretty powerful for what it is and I'm excited to see the campaign and other new stuff they're adding to it tomorrow for EA people. I wasn't around when all of that went down, and—since Trakan wasn't specific with their post—if you don't know that their post is addressing the now purged comments, it looks like they are talking to everyone else in the thread and telling them to stop discussing things that are not explicitly GAME DEALZ™. I wasn't around when all of that went down, and—since Trakan wasn't specific with their post—if you don't know that their post is addressing the now purged comments, it looks like they are talking to everyone else in the thread and telling them to stop discussing things that are not explicitly GAME DEALZ[emoji769]. I can only assume Z-Saber was also not around at the time to see that go down. Unless they were part of the conversation and had a post of theirs deleted (which I would of course be unaware of, as I was at work), there's really no reason to be rude and call them a liar. Though I assume that's not the case, as I feel like you would have directly called them out for that if they were part of the political mudslinging.

This. Didn't see anything that got purged. Considering the surrounding posts to that instruction are not strictly PSN deals, the optics were weird.
 
If the PS5 is backwards compatible for PS4 games, would it safer to assume that digital would more likely be the format that it would work for instead of physical?

I was going to buy my kids Dreams (full price even).  I have Best Buy credit but think digital might hold up better assuming its something they'll keep using on to the next system.  Future proofing it and all.

I don’t think it’s safe to assume anything in regards to backwards compatibility until Sony clarifies what that means (all games or some, digital, physical, gaas, etc)

With that said, imo digital is the better choice for kids (no media to swap/break/lose) and anyone who a) isn’t interested in collecting/trading or b) doesn’t get a significant discount for a physical copy.

Go digital and never look back!

I m very hesitant to embrace an all digital future. Each format has its pros and cons, and I've seen and been burned by digital products going off the market and no longer available to those who purchased them, even in the past week. And even by Sony.

  • You can play solo without owning a subscription. You can explore the game's world, complete main and side quests, and participate in events happening on the map.
  • The access to the Dark Zone is limited for those who don't have the subscription. You can enter a Dark Zone only once during the related quest. After completing it, you won't be able to enter that Zone again until you buy the subscription.
  • PvP mode (player vs player), playing in teams and matchmaking won't work.
  • Clans are also unavailable for those who don't own the subscription.

They have confirmed that the PS5 will have a UHD drive; and they'd be opening themselves up to a storm of negatively if they said only digital was backward compatible and not physical. I've been future-proofing since the beginning by buying physical any option I get. They can always remove a digital purchase from my account by flipping a switch, but they'll have to break into my house and steal my discs to remove my physical copies.

There are definitely pros and cons, but I have gone all digital on my switch (besides the single cartridge plugged into it) and it is a godsend for when my 5 year old wants to play a different game on the tv every 10 minutes (it especially inconvenient to switch games on the switch)

The problem with physical games going forward is that:

a) they really aren't complete anymore and potentially broken without the day 1 patch (etc)

b) once installed, they just serve as an inconvenient ownership check (no save data or anything of consumer value)

c) it's hard to justify collecting physical games nowadays compared to retro games (i still have my coleco,nes, snes, genesis, n64, etc)

The problem with digital games is that:

a) it reinforces the fact that you don't own the game, only the right to play it

b) it could disappear from storefronts, though I'm not sure how often this has happened to purchased/downloaded games

c) the cost of games are generally higher since there is no retail markdown incentive

d) no refunds/returns/trades (though this may evolve over time like steam)

With that said, a new generation of consoles is an excellent opportunity to revisit the idea of all digital and freeing yourself from physical games. (this might also cut down on the mistake (i know, i have nerdy stuff too) of buying collectors editions that collect dust and take up space.

I also think that the upside to the potential lack of deals going forward in the all digital future will be the elimination of backlogs. (I still have sealed PS2 games :/) Less "unworthy of your time" games will be purchased if there aren't great discounts to be found (besides the occasional day 1 and/or launch title mistake)

 
I realized a few days ago just how much digital had started to take over my game library. I was looking at Samuri Shodown at Gamestop for 13 bucks and then I though that since it's a fighting game, I'd much rather have digital when it goes on sale since I probably won't trade it back and I would want to boot it up quickly to play against my friends online. Then when I saw Division 2 for 5 bucks, I again decided to wait to see if PSN would do it for 2.99 like Xbox did.

Back when I was a kid I would sometimes rent whole game systems with my friends and go through all the trouble of hooking them up just to play for a few days. Now I suddenly don't want to bother swapping out a disk.

 
As much as I love physical media, this is one thing that does weigh on me, especially if the game is incomplete (barring patches.)  For example, the physical edition of Life is Strange 2 was release last week, which i had preordered at Bestbuy. I picked it up, looked at the box, and noticed the fine print said episodes 1-4 were on disc, but it included a voucher to download episode 5. I immediately went to the customer service desk and returned it. Then bought it for half the price from PSN on sale. Physical is great when it's a complete game so I can still play it if the day ever comes when there is no longer an internet as we know it. But if I have to download anyways, I may as well buy it via PSN and not have to pop the disc in.

Street Fighter 5, GTA5, and Red Dead 2's daily or weekly challenges would also be a lot easier without having to swap discs every day.

 
I wouldn't mind digital, but I'm capped per month for downloads. Getting some 100+ gig monster pretty much kills a lot of the cap. It's fine for smaller few gig games and some indie stuff, but I think twice when it's for big games, or games with monster patches like Elder Scrolls Online.

My release day physical copy of GT6 is currently unusable because it requires something like 16 hours of patches and it has never managed to finish downloading them. Errors require starting over. Not sure if the digital edition solves this, but that was when I stopped worrying about digital V physical.
