Can take a loss on the digital edition because you are going to make it up on digital software purchases.
Yep, especially considering they got rid of full game download codes being sold at retail a few months ago. They are making sure for PS5 that all money goes directly from you to them, no middle men.

But yeah disc version for me as well. Like I said last time the topic came up digital deals these days are pretty bad compared to the price of physical (walmart clearance these past few months has been nuts for exmaple) and I can't see that changing any time soon. It's not often we see an actual good deal like this Danganronpa V3 price.

Though in this specific case I suspect it's because all the Danganronpa games NISA published are being delisted in a few weeks as going forward Spike Chunsoft is self-publishing the games iirc. They'll probably come back rather quickly but this might be the last time the game is discounted for a while.

I'll probably get the Blu Ray version, just because I want to be able to play all of my PS4 games and a lot of them are on discs.
this is why i recently sold off almost my entire physical library for ps4. that and i got sick of only having a few games to play if i brought it to a friend's apartment, etc.

people badmouth gamestop but i used their store credit to get back all my games in digital between the summer sale and this new sale. save a couple games i never want to replay (gamestop made me keep some games like ff15, shadow of mordor, fallout 4, etc. i can see why they dont want to buy a million copies of those).

dark souls remastered, super monkey ball, crash n sane, and dmc5 were all i was waiting to go on sale and now im just waiting on crash, which is frequently 20 bucks.

that said.....i still dont know if im willing to commit to ps5 digital. you never know when you might want a disc game...............HOWEVER, theres two likely scenarios pushing me to get the cheaper digital version

1) they do a refresh a la ps4 pro mid-gen, so digital ps5 is a good way to save money if i eventually want that console anyway

2)the gen really IS 5 years long like sony claims (i doubt this more than option 1), making the ps5 a poor investment in general, so digital is a way to take a smaller loss

im still saving by base ps4 though, because of the original version of cuber sleuth with the absolutely broken hard mode not available for download on ps4 because bamco is an incompetent greedy leech of a company

One of my biggest PS5 wants? Being able to turn off the startup beep. I will definitely get the disc version...not ready to commit to digital only with how cheap PS4 physical games will get in the future.

Yeah when the time come, it'll be disc version for me due to my collection of disc games. Not going to go through the time and cost of trying to convert to digital this late in the generation. I'll consider digital more frequently for new games though, slowly shifting that way. Putting a disc in the system to change games is strangely more annoying than it used to be. Laziness I guess, but I do like being able to pop out and change games on the fly. And it is always nice to be able to play one game while another downloads or updates.

I basically cut the cord on everything. Movies, cable, games. Best decision I ever made.
Sounds to me like you're more tethered than ever. All your media relies on your internet. Lose that and you lose everything you "own". Between internet price hikes, net neutrality battles, service closures (*cough*Ultraviolet*Desura*cough*) and services changing/removing content you own after the fact, I'm so thankful to actually have media I can hold in my hands. Shouldn't put all your eggs in one basket.

Remedy/505 Games explains the current to next gen upgrade for Control:

https://controlgame.com/ultimateeditioncommunityblog/
Thats a whole lotta nothing.

If that's the case, then you convert everyone who owns the base game + the Season's pass in to Ultimate edition owners so they can get the upgrade, and No one is left out. Again, fuck 505. Many publishers have done things like this, very easy to do for digital owners, a little harder for disc+dlc owners, but still possible. It may take a little more effort.

Remedy/505 Games explains the current to next gen upgrade for Control:

https://controlgame.com/ultimateeditioncommunityblog/
I own the Control base game and Season Pass. Is this not the same as Control Ultimate Edition?
The objective of Control Ultimate Edition was not to release new exclusive content on the next gen platforms, but to offer the full Control gameplay experience to new Control players in a single, easy-to-find product. The PlayStation 5/Xbox Series X versions of Control contain the same content as the current gen game, though they do take full advantage of the power and features provided by these new consoles.

The upgrade path that we are offering is only possible when upgrading from the same version of the game. As we are only doing additional development on Control Ultimate Edition on the next gen platforms, we are unfortunately unable to offer an upgrade path to all existing Control players. We understand how this might upset a number of players but you will still be able to play the 2019 edition of Control and each Expansion on the new platforms.

This logic is completely sound except that they are releasing the Ultimate Version now (which is the same content many people already own) on current gen instead of just releasing it for PS5/Series X. I don't think anyone "deserves" the free upgrade, but if you are going to make a product designed to appeal to next gen and then release it as a current gen product that's the same as your existing product, you invalidate your argument that this version is "different" and therefore should be treated differently.

They could have avoided this whole mess by just announcing and releasing this for next gen only. People would probably be excited to have something to buy/play for these consoles that will surely have a sparse line-up.

When the internet goes out, you should read a book. Or maybe go out and loot stuff. :)

Haha. I wasn't talking about a mere disconnect. I'm talking about losing the internet as an entity. Like Betamax or eight-track cassettes. Progress always moves forward. Will the Internet be the same in 30 years as it is today?

With media rights holders continually eliminating more and more facets of ownership, piracy truly has become the cornerstone of modern media preservation.

Yep. They rolled out the change about a week ago now but it's only on the console store itself so far. It also applies to PS Now games which had the same problem iirc.

For example this is what the Bloodborne page looks like for me now. Good example because it's something I got from PS+ that is also on PS Now. I have the option to buy it now.
While I see the option now (console), this seems slightly broken at least. For any game that I have on 'Plus', and that is a part of a current Sale, it wants to charge me the full retail price, and not the Sale price. No thanks.

And a simple house fire, flood, or theft for example, could wipe your collection entirely.

And which is more likely to happen? Losing your collection to a theft, or an entire media service shutting down? You literally have all your eggs in one basket lol.

And just to add,
all my movies (for example) are stored across multiple services (Amazon/iTunes/Vudu/etc) with movies anywhere, and my digital games are on multiple platforms (Sony/Microsoft/etc), plus I can download them all (prior to a service being shut down) and even if the service is shut down and save on a hard drive, which I can back up.

Entire media service shutting down. I have lost DRM media from Microsoft and Walmart, so I don't know why you think digital content is infallible.

I never said digital content was infallible. Both have their positives and negatives. BUT saying that digital is worse than physical because of the chance of an entire media service closing, is like saying you won't go outside for a walk because there is a chance you will get struck by lightning.

Both media types have their risks, but IMO digital content is way more convenient. But hey, to each their own.

How do you download PSP games you bought? The store is closed. PSP isn't even really that old. Unless it's backwards compatibile with Vita, you need to download the games to PS3 and transfer them over.

I own very few PSP games physically, those being ONLY Metal Gear titles and a couple other odds and ends. However, the ones I do own were almost all downloadable on Vita, with the exception of the Metal Gear titles I believe like AC!D and AC!D 2.

Also, there are quite a few PSP titles still downloadable via the PSN store and playable on the Vita lol. And the PSP games I bought I downloaded straight to my Vita.

You still play your PSP? Both my batteries exploded I think. If I ever wanted to play a game that wasn't ported to a better version anyway I think I would just load up PPSSPP.

My PSP battery is still some how good. I've heard a lot about the batteries going bad in them lately so probably just a matter of time. I never play it anymore and pretty much just have it for star ocean 1 & 2 which were never released digitally on PSP anyway. My Vita can play any of the digital games I have

I have that hard to find limited Big Boss PSP that came out for Peacewalker. I checked the battery and noticed that the backplate for the battery slot was bulged lol. Took that shit out with the quickness. Need to buy a replacement though.

being a cheapass I like that physical games can be resold. there are MANY times I have resold a game after beating it for more than I paid, typically because I got a killer deal and trade ins or ebay was just paying more at the time.

Battery? No one sells those anymore and if you find one it prob won't keep a charge. I bought a new battery a few years ago from an Amazon seller and it lasted two charges before it going bad. As long as you have the AC adapter you should be fine.

Yeah, you're supposed to take the battery out if you're not going to use the system for more than a few months. That's why it's removable.

Third-party batteries are still being made, I think. It's just a cheapo battery for what is now primitive electronic. Those $1 charging cables for smartphones are more dangerous than it.

thats about as likely as losing electricity as an entity. also most disc games have game fixing/improving patches at launch and some outright need internet for full functionality, on top of that games cant be run off the discs anymore so the digital vs physical argument has been turned into a "digital vs physical license" argument.

not to downplay it though. having a physical license i can resell is cool. until this week i had like 30 physical ps4 games. but whats also cool is being able to take my library with my playstation without lugging all the discs around. but going past portability.......i only have room for so many games. i have crates full of games, and shelves full of games. n64, gameboy, gba, ds, 3ds, gamecube, wii, xbox, 360, dreamcast, ps1, ps2, ps3.........i have to cut the clutter somewhere. when i saw the ps5 box art for the spidey expansion i had a voice in my head shout "no, theres no room for a bunch of new games. theres barely room for what you have."

if sony goes under as a company and all their servers are shut down and wiped......then i dunno ill jailbreak my playstation or something.

The thing that is really going to cost us the most, is buying new TVs with the console generation. With 4K becoming the standard. A lot of people are going to need to upgrade if they want to get the most out of the PS5 and the Xbox Series X.

i dont know how console warriory this thread is but i think thats why microsoft has said almost nothing about the series s

they can steal the "ill buy whichever next gen console is the cheapest" market. especially if they still have 1080p tvs, then not only are you saving money but youre unlikely to be missing out on much because you know that to hit 4k all these games are gonna need to be at 30fps. so performance will be similar on a 1080p tv for the s and the x/ps5.

That’s part of the reason I’m hesitant to buy the PS5 at launch. My 1080p Samsung LED is still kicking at 19 years old. Lol I am an old CAG.

I saw an 85 inch 8K LG HDTV on sale today on SlickDeals for about $2,500 and I was almost tempted to buy it, just so that I would be future proof for the next 10 years or so before they announce 16K. My only problem is, that there are no rooms in my house big enough for an 85 inch TV. And, my father and I used to do landscaping for a rich guy that had an 80 inch 1080p TV, so I have a pretty good idea of how big the room needs to be for a TV that huge. And, my entire house isn't even big enough for a 75 inch TV.

What's the refresh rate? If it's 60hz, you're probably better off waiting for something that's at least 120hz if you're trying to future proof.

It's the new 2020 model (supposedly) so I would hope it was 120hz, but I didn't really look into it. That is something to think about with the new consoles though. I forgot all about that.

No 8K TV you buy now is going to "future proof" you. Anything purchased that early in the life of a standard is going to be obsoleted very quickly by improvements within the very same standard. We're still far from 4K achieving mass penetration. Save your money.

I was gonna say the same thing. Better to get an amazing 4K tv than something touted as 8K because it will be obsolete if 8K ever becomes a common thing.

I'm not sure how much farther they can push things. I love my B7 OLED but the new ones really aren't THAT much better. Only way things can go is bigger and cheaper. (Holding out for that affordable 77" OLED someday!)

Agreed, no way are you futureproof.  You aren't even future proof on most 4K TVs since HDMI 2.1 isn't even fully implemented on all sets yet.  The HDR standards are still being tweaked as well.

8K TVs have actually been on the market going on three years now. It's not like I'd be buying completely untested technology.

I would say it's less about being untested and more about being, "What could be added by the time it's mainstream?"  Case in point, my 4K TV doesn't support HDR.  My television came out in 2015, I purchased it specifically because it had 3D capabilities and I love my 3D blu-rays.  But at the time, HDR was still being finalized and wouldn't make it into televisions for at least another year.  So yeah, I missed out on getting HDR because I got my 4K TV too early in it's lifetime.

But I still prefer 3D, so it's worth it.  :)

My OG 4K LG I bought back in 2016 didn't support HDR either.  I just recently got a LG 65in LED Nanocell 4K HDR set, instead of the OLED I wanted because I felt it was overkill.  I moved the other 65in 4K TV to our bedroom and I couldn't be happier with the decision I made.  No need to buy an 8K TV right now.  Better to wait and get a higher end 4K TV that is a tad bit more future proof then spending $$$ on a 8K TV that will be obsolete in a year.

Did anyone else have Assassin's Creed 3 Remastered show up as free in the under $20 sale? I already owned a physical copy, but I added it to my cart and it let me get it for free.

Do you own the Assassin's Creed: Odyssey Season Pass? It comes with that.
I just checked, and I do. I got it from a store that had converted all of thier gold editions to regular edition prices and a month ago or so i went through all of my games to redeem any codes, so that's probably what it was.

And here I thought i was special.

I have a 65” samsung js8500 in our family room that has hdr and 3d ... i think it’s one of last 3d tv models and that prompted the purchase at the time when costco discounted it
