For those of you who mentioned having a Samsung; have you ever had a problem with the video blacking out for about three seconds every once in a while? I'll be sitting there play a game and suddenly the screen goes black (but the audio continues to play okay through my receiver) and after a couple seconds it will come back perfectly fine. I don't recall it ever happening on the PS3, 4k Player or Cable box, but seems to have at least once a play sessions on the PS4 Pro. I suspected it could be anything between a handshake issue, hdcp issue, the fact that it's going through the non-HDR Gen 1 VR Box or even the 4K HDMI cables (which shouldn't be an issue considering they're Monoprice) but I can't seem to figure it out. Searches on the internet seem to indicate other people experience these blank outs with their Samsung TV but nobody seems to know the cause or fix.
I've had this type of thing happen when using an HDMI cable that doesn't support 4K for a 4K signal. Even if your cable is supposed to support 4K, it might be bad so I'd try swapping it out.

Yes I did. Mine was full on power cycling eventually though. It would turn on and off repeatedly. I ended up buying a used power supply board from ebay and replacing it myself (was pretty easy)

Not sure if that's your problem, but it could be a faulty capacitor. If you have a tester at home it's easy to take the back off and see if one's not working right

Evil Superman, this is something new that excites me greatly.

I’m being sarcastic.
I wouldn't say evil, probably brainwashed considering brainiac in the back. So he most likely captured the JL and did the same to them all. So the SSQ is gonna some how save the world from them. Like I said in other places im interested. Not gonna throw out hate about somebody outfit or anything else cause the game isnt out yet and what not.

Only 3 Seconds? That''s the only problem you got? I have a Samsung 4K KU6290 (low end model) that sometimes freezes and black out with the sound still playing lol. To fix it I would need to power off the TV (unplug the AC from the outlet, wait a few minutes, and plug it back in). The TV is currently setup as my PC monitor & the PS4 is hooked to it. I bought it back in late Jan 2017 and I think my TV is on its last legs. It has two circle white spots and bleeding on the background. It's been like this for almost a year now. Noticeable if you watch a dark film. Just waiting for it to die so I get a new one. Going with a Sony or Vizio this time. Here's some photos:

It's the PSVR v.1. I have the same issue (PS4 Pro, PSVR v.1, Samsung KS8000).

I have a Sewell Ibis 4K HDMI bi-directional switch (white version) set up in the middle of the chain, with one path branching off through the PSVR v.1 to the TV, and the other going directly to the TV to allow HDR support. The intermittent video blackout only ever happens when I'm using the PSVR v.1 path to play normal games on the TV.

2022 is a huge bummer but it looks awesome
2022 is probably the earliest you will see real ps5 games...it will be cross gen this xmas and most likely next xmas too.

launch games and remasters don’t really count imo

i could totally see xmas 2021 having something next gen only that spectacularly fails a la ac unity’s “large marge”

fwiw i still appreciate that ubi tried to make something special...i haven’t played it yet but might revisit to see if it was ever fixed

and to be fair, ac black flag is by far my favorite ac game despite being a cross gen ps3/360 game with higher fps/rez

When I was using the Samsung 6290, I had the issue you describe. Going into the ps4 display settings and changing the color and resolution away from auto fixed it for me.

I got my Samsung during that amazing Target code stacking glitch so it was a great deal I couldn't pass. They unfortunately didn't have any Sony available at that time since I generally buy Sony. My Samsung TV often loses its ability to communicate through HDMI device link. So every few months I have to unplug my TV and let "reset." Turns out it's a common thing with Samsung that hasn't been addressed yet. Also, rarely when I change my input, the screen becomes completes distorted. So I'll have to turn off then on again the TV to correct it. Everyone holds Samsung in high regards, but I had their fridge crap out on me in over a year, then my stove, and my parents had their washer crap out. I do have good experience with their phones though

Thanks for the feedback everyone, I'll have to try to consider my options here. I've tried a few things in the past with no success (like disabling HDCP.) I just switched the resoluton/rgb range away from auto, we'll see if that'll helps. If it is the PSVR box, maybe we'll get lucky and the PS5 will have the box part of things build in and I will only need to connect the headset. Otherwise I will have to consider other options.

It's the PSVR v.1. I have the same issue (PS4 Pro, PSVR v.1, Samsung KS8000).

Is there a technical difference between the white and black versions (other than color?) Seems the white version is discontinued and Amazon is like, "There's a newer version available" and sends you to a black-only version. This seems like it could be a nice solution (along with an HDMI cable replacement -- just in case) though I'm not sure if I have another hdmi port on my receiver to spare. Hmm...

I have a 55" JU7500 that I got from Bestbuy in 2016. I did color tests immediately after getting it and discovered dead pixels. Had them bring a replacement, which had dead pixels too. The third one was perfect, which is what I stuck with. The blank outs didn't seem to start until I got my PS4 Pro which was a couple years later. Hopefully this TV lasts a long time since you can't find 3D TVs anymore. :(

The 77" CX is the one I'm eyeballing. And I think mine is the 2016 3D model so good to know it is that much of an upgrade.
It's niiiice. I rushed to get that 2016 set when all the new TVs were announced that year to not have 3D anymore. It was great to have 3D on a 4K set with the same glasses as the theaters but I've been rushing to get though those discs as the format started to die out. The CX was brand new right as I was finishing up and damn if it is not impressive. My biggest gripe with the old set was having black stuff show up grey or having the whole screen light up grey when something small is in the corner (like "Now Loading") and of course OLED fixes all of that.

Oh, I thought you meant you had the 2016 OLED 3D model. :) So, maybe not as much an upgrade for me but from what I'm reading about the set it will still be a pretty good upgrade especially going to 77" from 65".

I have a PS4 Pro with first gen VR hooked up to an older Panasonic 3D plasma thru a receiver and have the same issue. Screen goes black for a couple of seconds not too long after booting up (and only once per session). I used to have a launch PS4 with the same setup and never had this happen. I don't believe it started happening right after replacing it with the Pro either, otherwise I would have suspected that of being faulty. It seems to have been going on for a while now though. I know both the Pro and VR have been updated since the current setup, so I suspect it started happening after an update to either or both.

I had a similar problem and finally figured out that it is the 4k format from the PS4. If you look it up, I think certain TV's work better with the RGB versus the other format, or vice-versa. My Samsung got progressively worse over time and changing it from "Automatic" to a different format fixed it. Not sure if there have been updates to the PS4 that address this otherwise.

Also, I think the color bit rate setting for your TV might potentially come into play too if the first issue doesn't fix it.

This was my issue, so I don't know if yours is the same, but it sounds like it.

At the time, there was an older black version that had the exact same "Ibis" name, which did not support HDR passthrough. Looking at the Amazon listing, it seems this is the Ibis Pro, not the Ibis. I'm assuming from the name and customer reviews that the Ibis Pro is the newest version (i.e. newer than my white Ibis), and that it should perform the same functionality I described, but I have no personal experience with using the Pro model.

Regarding the extra HDMI port, technically you don't even need the PSVR v.1 path to make the final connection to the TV, it could just terminate at the PSVR box. Obviously you'd be missing the social screen aspect of a handful of PSVR games (e.g. Angry Birds Movie 2 VR), but if you're only ever inside the headset while playing VR, what's on the TV wouldn't matter.

Unfortunately, if I do it that way, I won't get any audio. As it is now, the PS4 connects to the VR Box, which connects to the receiver for my surround sound, and then my receiver sends it to my television. If the VR signals stops before it hits the receiver, my audio will be missing.

Did you look into a splitter? I got one because of a flicker issue when running to receiver then to tv. Currently using the splitter to run to the tv via hdmi and an optical to the receiver for surround. I wish the PS4 slim kept an optical...

The HDR path (the non-PSVR v.1 path) would now be the one that connects to your receiver in this scenario, for non-VR games.

Unless you're saying you use speakers when you're in VR? My bad, I just assumed everyone used the default earbuds or headphones. The positional audio would get weird if you got turned around, or the audio blasting in the background would get weird in general with other people in the house if you were watching """videos""".

Yeah, I use my 5.1 Surround Sound system even in the VR. I find earbuds extremely uncomfortable (back when I was working in the office instead of from home, I would use these over-the-ear earphones when I would listen to my music on my phone), and I'll only put my PS4 headset on when I'm talking to friends via the Party function. I guess I just don't feel comfortable wearing things on my head, especially if I've already got the VR headset on. Plus, feeling something over my ears takes me out of the experience because it kind of reminds me that what I'm hearing is being simulated and isn't really happening around me -- especially since the sound quality is never as good through ear/headphones as it is through a surround sound system. I'm the only one in the apartment, so I don't have to worry about what others would think. ;)

You lose the 3D audio if you don’t use headphones in psvr. That adds so much to the experience and immersion level. To each their own though

Still torn about The Avengers.  Can't decide if it is worth grabbing to play with my buddies or just waiting for a price drop around the holidays.

I think playing with friends would be the only reason I ever pick that one up. I'd buy the game if they're willing to play. Mine already said a big no, so I wont touch it either!

Yea I played the closed Beta back when it launched on PS4, and it just felt very underwhelming. Then I read some posts saying that the game gets so much better. Even chatted with a buddy of mine who plays on XBOX and he said he loves it. I'm torn. Just don't know if any of my good buddies plan on playing it when it launches.

Yeah unfriend that guy who says he loves it. Has no taste haha j/k. My friends when the original Destiny came out swore it was the best and I never liked it much, and yeah I played for a bit and everyone eventually fell off. So yeah I've wasted money like that for sure.

Haha yea I fell into the Destiny hype and just couldn't sustain it. Gave up shortly after the game launched.

So if anyone was wondering my router search finally ended when I found a Netgear Orbi RBK53 on clearance at a Costco that I got marked down to 250. It's overkill, but for the price it is pretty awesome and now I have speeds just as fast wireless that I do wired. But my steaming quality only improved just a little bit so I think it has more to do with Comcast and their paltry 5Mbps upload speed (4 via PS4).

Now to buy a new modem. Only problem is, everything that's any good is sold out.

I got a real basic NETGEAR modem. Works perfectly and was cheap:

The Netgear CM700 is the one I got for my Orbi too. Think it was $99 at Best Buy.

My Orbi router only has one ethernet port so I run a 8-port ethernet switch so I can connect cables to my tv, one x, PS4 pro, printer, 4k player.

I just read that call of duty has the audacity to sell a "cross-gen" labelled bundle...this is an absolute nightmare scenario imo

I don't necessarily care about CoD, but the full on embrace of cross-gen just bums me out.

Bad enough cross-gen exists, but this almost guarantees that the new console will become a "ps4 pro pro" due to cross-gen development for the forseeable future.

Not to be a downer, but I kind of hope cross gen games this go around somehow review poorly, lose money, and fail miserably because consumers wait til they are deeply discounted...not likely I know.

I also hope the early PS5 and XBSX sales suffer due to a lack of generational exclusives that drive the price down after 2 years when real PS5 games start to show up.

Sorry for the rant.

I agree and I think the anti-cross-gen train is starting to gain steam. Especially evidenced by the Halo Infinite situation. If I'm buying new hardware I don't want the software to be held back to support the previous gen. I want stuff that can really take advantage of my new gear.

Look at it the other way though. You want publishers to put their best stuff on your new machine, but the userbase is very limited until the units get out there. Cross gen makes it easier to get titles out there and still get sales. As long as they don't do it for too long...

They've always done this. Why do people pretend that this is a brand new thing? Xbox 360 and PS3 had versions of games that came out for PS4 and Xbox One for at least the first two or three years of their life cycle. Most of the major Switch games are just ported over Wii U titles. Some of the top games on PS4 are ports of PS3 games.

Uhh zero people are pretending like this is new. Everyone remembers Twilight Princess being cross-gen, etc.

Like I said, it's just been made way more obvious that developing for the lowest common denominator the norm for the beginning of a new generation. Halo Infinite's delay due to having to keep Xbox One in mind is giving people tangible evidence that you may be buying new hardware, but the reality is you'll still be playing the previous generations games on a prettier box. And with the price of consoles inevitably increasing, and the price of games increasing as well, who wants something they know for a fact is watered down? Accepting that is definitely NOT the CAG spirit.

Oh god, oh god, KILL IT WITH FIRE.

I got that set from a Woot Deal (something around $200 I believe)--only it turns out it was refurbished, AND Netgear doesn't wipe out the previous owner's information registered to the devices, which means you can't reset the registration information for warranty to your own name.

I was 45 minutes into troubleshooting and ultimately sending it back after the first week I used it and it crapped out (it would disconnect the extenders after 20 minutes of use), until it came to giving my name and address to the overseas operator, who--surprise!--told me the unknown, unmentioned fact it was still in the original user's name and could only be replaced by them.

He actually suggested (after I had already told him I bought this just a week earlier from Woot) to contact the original owner--who he could not provide, of course out of privacy concerns.

Woot of course is all contact-by-email only, so that took a few days just to get a refund. Instead I got a triband Linksys--works like a dream right out of the box, the app is intuitive and breezy. You're also hard pressed to find bad reviews on anything they make.

I will never buy Netgear anything again so long as I exist. Every generation the quality just gets worse and worse from anything they put out.

Never buy electronics refurbished. Especially not routers and modems. You're just buying someone else's problems. I read plenty of people who have had this for a few years now and it's rock solid. So far so good for me also.

yeah I have an RBK50 set, its amazingly good, and I get ridiculous wifi speeds all around my house. And I kind of agree, 90% of refurb stuff is refurbed for a reason, and that sounds like that dude got a return and not a refurb, and no one reset it for factory defaults.

First mistake was buying used electronics. Not Netgear's fault.

I await the link to the full sale, but the new indie sale that just started isn't half bad so far--7 things from my wishlist are finally discounted.

1) PS3/PS4 cross-gen games were PS3 games regardless of which platform you played them on...I bought a PS4 to play PS4 games not glorified PS3 games...so going forward if something is "cross-gen" then it significantly lowers my expectations and excitement and I prepare to be underwhelmed. This is not the "next gen" experience or emotion that I ever want from any next generation of consoles personally.

2) You have a point with Nintendo which always seems to get a pass though graphical fidelity isn't their driving force. In that case, I would prefer access to all first party games on every iteration of the console. Ironically, I passed on the Wii U console despite my love for nintendo so I have enjoyed playing the switch versions of the games (especially handheld)

The Halo reveal is a pretty good reminder that the developers are not focused on developing the PS5/XBSX version and then downgrading to whatever degree necessary to make it available on PS4/XB1 the way it should be to not have cross-gen be a big deal. If it sucks on last gen so be it.

Instead, they are developing last gen games and the more powerful next gen consoles achieve better resolution and higher fps due to sheer power without actually utilizing any other next gen advantages if it requires extra actual work/programming. Lowest common denominator...

I am happy that RE8 decided to change its mind from being cross-gen to next gen only. Why did they do this...the way it is designed (next gen first) lead to past-gen consoles having too much pop-in and long texture loads. By dropping the last-gen consoles altogether they plan to have no loading and push the graphic overhaul much further since last gen tech limitations are gone.

This should be the case for any AAA PS5 game when attempting to downgrade to PS4...otherwise they are not pushing the PS5 hard enough imo

When PS4 launched, everything was "1080p 60 FPS" because they were really PS3 games...as soon as PS4 games were actually being made we were right back to 30 FPS and/or choosing between resolution and fps.

History is doomed to repeat itself here and I don't think that is a good thing for gamers or cheap ass gamers
