Should we be expecting an impending price drop on PlayStation All Stars now that Sony has cut ties with the studio? Definitely won't be going to the IGC now...

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013...ardians-of-middle-earth-free-karateka-50-off/

Here's the Full PS+ Update for this week:
Welcome to this week’s PlayStation Plus update, where we’re excited to bring news that the Guardians of Middle Earth MOBA greatness will be coming free to PS3 for PS Plus members! If you’ve never tried this unique genre that’s taking the gaming community by storm, give Guardians of Middle Earth a download and see what all the excitement is about. While you’re at it, check out a handful of discounts on some pretty amazing games you may have missed out on for both PS3 and PS Vita.

Friendly reminder: The deal is on through March 4th: purchase a one-year membership of PS Plus and get three bonus months free. Current members can stack this value on to their existing membership as well. Learn more about the offer here, or click the link below to go to the SEN online store.

Don’t have PlayStation Plus, or just want to add more time to your existing membership? Go to the PlayStation Store on your PS3 or PS Vita or click here to get access via the Sony Entertainment Network online store.

February 5th PlayStation Plus Update

Guardians of Middle Earth (PS3)

Free for PS Plus members (Original Price: $14.99)

Take up arms in the clash over Middle-earth with the most powerful heroes from the greatest fantasy epic of all time. Form alliances with and against friends and jump into the wildly popular Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) gameplay. With 20 iconic guardians from Middle-earth, and new guardians coming all the time, it’s the perfect time to get lost in the multiplayer fray in epic 5 versus 5 battles.

Karateka (PS3)

50% off for PS Plus members (Original price: $9.99; PS Plus price: $5.00)

A beautifully simple premise with a fun pick up and play fighting system, Karateka blends old school gameplay charm with fluid combat animations and gorgeous backdrops and music to provide an amazing adventure with a ton of replay value. Are you skilled enough to rescue Princess Mariko with the fighting finesse of her True Love? Or will you need the power of the burly brute to topple the opposition? For more on Karateka, check out PS.Blog’s post from Assistant Producer Heather d’Evelyn.

Big Sky Infinity (PS3 and PS Vita – Cross Buy Enabled)

40% off for PS Plus members (Original price: $9.99; PS Plus price: $5.99)

Big Sky Infinity is a lightning-fast, randomly-generated game that adapts to how you play; which means, it’s never the same game twice. You pilot a spaceship that’s flying straight into an alien armada. The further you progress, the harder it gets, with giant bosses, streams of enemies, and unique events that shift the gameplay to keep you on your toes. It’s Cross Buy enabled, so this purchase will get you a version to play on both your PS Vita and PS3. Check out more Big Sky Infinity from the game’s director James Whitehead.

Knytt Underground (PS3 and PS Vita – Cross Buy Enabled)

40% off for PS Plus members (Original price: $14.99; PS Plus price: $8.99)

Knytt Underground tells a quirky and strange tale that’s set in the future, hundreds of years after the humans disappeared from the planet. Sprites, fairies and various other lifeforms roam tunnels in the underground. With a curiousity about their origin and the meaning of life, they strike out to find those answers they try to understand the ones who had obviously figured it out: the humans. It’s a beautiful adventure with a vast environment to explore and story driven quests that will keep you hooked. Read more about Knytt Underground in the PS Blog’s post featuring the Creative Director Nicklas Nygren.

Thanks for reading this week’s update. As usual, you can join the PlayStation community over on the PlayStation Community Forums in the PS Plus space to continue chatting about PS Plus, or find other PlayStation topics to discuss, or even start one yourself. See you in the comments!
Pretty obvious they just blew the big surprise announcement for the 20th. And everyone thought it would be PS4. . .
Oh well, I thought the big announcement on the 20th was going to be the release of Ratchet & Clank FFA for Vita. Anyone seen anything about that?

Hey, I'm having a bit of a problem replacing everything digital I lost when my launch PS3 bit the dust. I'm downloading everything just fine on my new slim console with added 750 GB HDD (and much faster than before, BTW), but nothing is getting installed. I'm stuck with hundreds of "bubbles" that I have to manually install one-by-one and it sometimes takes quite a while for the bigger games. Is there some "auto-install" option I need to click or something? This is getting pretty annoying.

If you have PS+, it can automatically download/install that stuff for you or you can set the PS3 to shut off after it finishes downloading/installing everything, but you're SOL if you want to do it all now. Installs will also take longer if you're doing it while downloading stuff.

Very curious about this too. I get annoyed that the PS3 seems so backwards that it has to download, install, and update all as separate steps. Shouldn't the things I download already be up-to-date???
The main problem I had with the game was that it took forever to find a match because of so few people playing it. Hopefully having it free will fix that problem.

Maybe in the future, such online multiplayer PSN games will take note and do what Awesomenauts did: release free for PS+ right away on the launch date. That would be the smart thing to do, IMO. In doing so, Awesomenauts never had any issues with empty servers.
I fail to see how that would be good for the dev, unless we are talking about a very DLC heavy game (which I suppose Middle Earth is :/ ).

But then why not just make the game F2P?

If you have PS+, or at least have access to a PS+ trial code, you can use that to do it for you. With Automatic Updates enabled, your PS3 will turn itself on at some point during the day to install those games, among other things.

If you go to power off while content is downloading, it gives you the option to install and power off when done. No PS+ required.

I think, provided I had another download going, I could set the PS3 to shutdown after it finished and it would install all the "bubbles". Or maybe it did that during the auto-update I had setup for overnight on PS+.

Beat to it by . . . everyone.

Or maybe I'm remembering everything incorrectly.

All this time I have been doing it wrong :wall:

I need to set this up. I also hate that downloading and installing requires double the storage space but that's more a laziness issue since I have the new HDD to put in mine just can't find the time/motivation to install it.

Thank god for Hitman Absolution. I almost went and bought the Dark Souls DLC but decided to wait and get through Hitman first. FINALLY I save some money on DLC for a PS3 game. I was getting tired of paying full price all the time. Now for that Castlevania DLC that has never been on sale...
It seems as though embargos tend to get lifted early when there are really good reviews. I'm sure the publisher likes to do that to drum up more interest since there would be little downside. This has me thinking that Sly and Dead Space may review ok, but not great.

Some of the passive mentions in different podcasts seems to be positive for both games, though - especially Sly.
Most games are embargoed until release and usually only huge blockbusters are sent out early enough to get early. Atlus is one of the more consistent publishers in sending out review code way early and having no embargo at all, which is great since they mainly do RPGs.
to those waiting to activate the free month of eu ps+, can't you just use the link to get multiple codes, activate it now, download the games and play them on your regular acct, then when the ps+ expires the next month, just make another acct and put the code on it and do the same thing?
You'd only be able to do it once more after the first month expires, though that opportunity ends within the next day or so since the code expires the first week of March.
What are Namco and Sony smoking? Why aren't those regular prices?
The publisher sets the prices and Namco doesn't like to drop prices on their PSP games at all, so it's surprising that they're even on sale.

Thanks everyone! I do have PS Plus, and I seem to remember that before if it were background downloading, you could tell it to turn off after it finished and it would auto-install, but now when I'm downloading lots of games (maybe 10 items or more) at once, it seems to shut off after the downloads are finished in the middle of the night without installing. Maybe I'll go back to the old way of doing one or two at a time and see if it makes any difference. :)
Installs will also take longer if you're doing it while downloading stuff.
I never knew that. Perhaps that's why some are taking so excruciatingly long.
The whole way they handle game downloads is messed up. Why would I be downloading a PS3 game if I didn't want to install it onto my PS3?

SCEA used to be really good about letting sites review their games early (especially before the Move and the VIta launches where lots of launch game reviews hit a few weeks early), but lately they've been embargoing everything.

It depends on the game. Some were early for me and others arrived closer to launch, though the size of the site can have an impact on that.
If you go to power off while content is downloading, it gives you the option to install and power off when done. No PS+ required.
Are you sure about this? That sounds like an Xbox 360.

Yep I'm sure, as me and the other 30 peeps to chime in have confirmed.

100% sure, I use it all the tie. The content needs to be downloading in the background OR ready to be installed, but then you choose that option and it will finish downloading everything and then install it all. Very useful.

I actually never knew about that. I'd set stuff to background download but I always shut off my console via ps button "Turn Off System" screen instead of the xmb icon under profiles.

I'll give that a shot from now on...
I actually feel like those are Still too expensive to be regular price! These are freakin old PSP games that should be on sale for $5 just to rope in those last few people who may have missed them. However, looking over the complete list has made me realize why I'd never had a problem with Namco before... I don't even think I'd impulse buy a single game on that list (besides Katamari for $5) regardless of price.
I feel the same, but this is Sony. They have a tendency not to keep prices current and let old games rot at their original prices. Whether or not the publishers set the prices, Sony should have more control to lower prices if they're still high above physical game prices.
Yep I'm sure, as me and the other 30 peeps to chime in have confirmed.
Thanks. That's good to know. I use a Harmony One remote that turns off the TV before the console goes into shut down mode, so I probably just always miss this option.

Sony doesn't control pricing on third-party games, as it's up to the publishers to do price drops on their games if they wish to have parity between the digital and retail versions of their games. It's Namco's right to not sell any copies of their PSP games if they don't want to lower the prices.

thanks for the EU + code info by the way. Started up the LOTR but realized its going to be free for NA so I beat closure, going to toy around with cubixx and pinball arcade, the retail games I already beat mostly so I only snagged them in case by some miracle when the + expires they will stay playable.

Thanks again!
not to keep the subject going, but if your euro ps plus expires, but your us plus is still going, do you still have access to those euro games? i dont really know if it would be worth it to be paying for both at the same time. though europe does get quite a few different games, alot of them are the same as US.
No, you don't. You'd need to extend your EU sub to keep playing them since they're completely separate accounts/services.

I'll update this with pricing in a second.

Wow, $10 for Duodecim is VERY tempting, especially since I had to sell my copy when I sold my copy with my PSP to pay for my Vita. FF4 Complete for $10 seems like a decent deal as well.

Ugh that means FFT PSP is going to be $5. Id definitely drop $5 to own it, but its attached to my PS+. No one has figured out a way to permanently buy a game that's already been free on PS+, have they?

I bought all of those games (and signed up for PS+ for the first time ever_ when they were on sale last year. Finished FF4, got all the rest to go.

Wow, that is simply amazing, makes up for the crappy free game we got.
Question about Dissidia. Can I just buy Dissidia 12 [duodecim] or do I also have to get Dissidia FF?

been waiting and hoping for a Final Fantasy sale. Definitely gonna pick up IX, and maaaybe IV complete. Tempted to grab VII as well, as I haven't played it in over 10 years... On the fence about Duodecim; I played the original Dissidia and never beat it, and I don't know if this iteration is likely to hold my interest any more strongly.
is cag having site problems or just me?
it's not just you I'm having problems aswell background white and it's taking to load.

Thanks for the updates. Going to finally pick up a digital version of duocidem.

If I'm buying the main game, is there any point to pick up prologus as well?
Yeah I'm really excited for 9 Star Wars tables!!
Actually it's 10 tables I counted wrongly. 1 more table
