So, as an aside, is there anyone who has installed Two Worlds II Velvet GOTY who wouldn't mind testing something? I picked the game up for $5 but don't have room to install it yet, but on the Playstation forum there's a thread claiming the Defense DLC that is included is incompatible (they're saying it's the EU version or something that won't work with the US base game). Has anyone here had trouble accessing it?

If there's no one able to test this, this weekend I'll delete a couple things to download it and report back.

Sony probably didn't implement the feature because they didn't think people would want to pay money for something they have for free. They probably have yet to implement it because the amount of money they would get from doing so is less than how much it would cost to do so, or it's less than the potential profit they could make by putting those resources to use elsewhere.

Yea I don't think it works. I just started up the game and looked around the menus and didn't see any way to play the Defense DLC.

Yea apparently the Defense DLC doesn't work with the US version. I can't actually test if it does or not because it is in multiplayer mode and I haven't made a multi character yet.

Yea I looked all over the multiplayer menus where Defense mode is supposed to be and I don't see any way of playing it. Unless it is part of your Village, but I can't buy one because it costs 10,000 auras.
Well for me it's not about the value of a digital ownership, it's a value of the game I want to play. For example, say I really love a game that I play often that I got for free on PS+. I value the ability to play the game when I want to play it. If my PS+ membership lapses let's just say because I don't have time to really use the PS+ IGC stuff anymore, then it would be better for me to just let my membership lapse and buy that game I got for free. But as the system is now, I can't, so either I have to keep a rather useless $50/year subscription around, or I have to give up playing that game because I can't even buy it. This is especially complicated for Vita owners IMHO because you can't just make a secondary account to buy the game since the Vita only lets you have 1 user per device.

Personally I can't understand why this isn't a simple fix for Sony. The license is just a simple file on the HD. All they have to do when you actually buy a game is overwrite the current license file. The most they have to do is check if your already have a PS+ license for the game being purchased, and put up a warning note that the game is already on your list and purchasing it will update the license from a PS+ IGC license to a regular purchased license.
I never really got this logic... maybe it's just me, but it really never made sense to me. While I own most of the games offered for PS + (always a great feeling when you have 350+ games and see another one you have come up...), I still almost MAGICALLY get $50 dollars worth over a calendar year.

This year I got Shank 2 (thats like $15 right?), Double Dragon ($10 right?) and KoF XIII (lets go with $20), so all I need is a $5 - $10 dollar game and I break even. I find it hard to believe most people don't come away with $50 dollars worth of value... but perhaps I am mistaken.

-looks at the new store-

Personally... I think Sony should implement the "if it's not broken, don't fix it" policy, since things tend to get worse if they "fix" it. I already can't use the fucking store, now you want to kill my download list too?!

On a slightly more serious note, I think Sony believes everyone should be able to break even and so they don't really think about it. As I mentioned above, I've played 350+ games and plus still offers me things I don't have and actually want. Going off the @Gamer thread... I might be one of the few people that are content getting at least my moneys worth.
2. This is also true, in my experience, but it is not intentional. I attempted to purchase the Walking Dead season pass after having downloaded eps 1 & 2 free, and then letting my subscription lapse. It worked fine while the sub was active, but after lapsing and resubscribing the system treated me like I had not purchased anything. After going through customer support the conclusion was that this is a known glitch: games received free through PS+ do not properly "release" their license and thus cannot be purchased for money. (clarification: You can give them money. You won't get the game though.) Surely they are working to fix this.
I also don't think it's intentional, honestly just a result of a poorly thought out system (which is common with online systems from Japanese companies). But yeah, you summed it up much better than I did.

I can see why it might be valuable for some people, if a game ever drops so low in price that it's lower than a monthly PS+ subscription, I too would prefer to buy the game rather than re-up. Or if you plan to play it over a few months, but don't want to pay for a multi-month subscrition. Sometimes the choices may not make the most fiscal sense, but the choices still need to be there.

I know this question might seem "out there" but, in the event Monster Hunter Freedom Unite (PSP) goes on sale next week, can Vita users map the camera rotation to the right analog stick? I might take a shot at it if it goes on sale but only if I can map the camera like that.

Is the camera mapped to L/R? If so then yes. I did it in Persona 3 and use the right analog stick to rotate the camera in dungeons. Best of all, R/L maintain their functionality, so if those buttons are used in menus for navigation etc you can still do so.
It's probably because it isn't as simple as you think it is. I don't think the account system differentiates the two versions of ownership like you and others do. You basically own the game in both circumstances as far as its concerned, so you're asking for a way to disown a game you already "own" so that you can purchase it for a slightly different form of ownership. I don't know of any digital marketplace that lets you disown a product that you've purchased.
I certainly think that's part of it.
Sony probably didn't implement the feature because they didn't think people would want to pay money for something they have for free. PS+ is also kinda a late addition, so it probably had to be retrofitted to the store.

As for the store itself, I have yet to have much of a problem with the new one, other than it seems a bit slower and takes more clicks to buy stuff. Then again, I don't venture much farther than PS+ and sales. In any case, the new store look didn't do anything to change the engine underneath. That still basically behaves the same.

I think it was one of those weird set ups where you had to hold down either R or L and turn with the nub. I wasn't sure if that kind of thing can be mapped to the right analog or not.
MHFU used the d-pad for the camera, an it can be mapped to the right stick. It makes the game a million times better!

need to be careful of what I buy, always ends up free later...
This.

I bought Retro City Rampage on day 1, played it on my vita for a couple of hours and haven't touched it since

I am confused by the sale for MotorStorm RC Complete Edition - $11.99

This doesn't seem to be listed with other sale items on the PS Store. Also, there is no Plus discount like many of the other sales. Is this actually on sale? If so, does anyone know what the normal price is?

yeah, you should always just purchase everything that is offered on ps+ no matter what.
I used to skip games like Spyro ps1 classics or games i owned, but that was dumb, cuz now im out of a free copy of tomb raider underworld etc cuz i owned the trilogy. now my laser is broke and i could have played underworld if i were to have 'purchased' it digitally. at least i only missed a few, but yeah, def purchase everything on ps+ even if you may never play it. Now my girls want to play all 3 spyro games and im like, damn i didnt get them when they were free.

also im in the same boat as admiralvic, i already own 80%+ of all ps+ free game offers, but its the special gift that keeps giving. Then again im good on ps+ for a long time, so i dont even see it as a rental, but as a free game. I guess if you are only a monthly/3month subscriber, it would be alot less worth your money. idk. Id be down for just sale prices, the free games are the frosting on top.

Value for the subscription and the value of a game varies under certain circumstances. Yes you will almost always break even at least with a PS+ subscription and usually exceed it if you are a PS3+Vita Owner. The value of the PS+ sub is actually quite high and a very good deal for most people. In all those instances though, you are only valuing the subscription on the amount of content you are receiving from it and not on the actual value of the content you are playing.

For example, if my PS+ sub ran out and I couldn't resubscribe (like if I lost my job or was displaced because of a disaster like hurricane Sandy), I'd probably still have my Vita with me. But overall I wouldn't want to resubscribe to PS+ till I got myself back on my feet. Now if my favorite game was received as a PS+ Freebie and PS+ expired or expired soon, I am screwed. I can't play it again till I resubscribe period. Even if I was willing to just buy it outright so I could have it all the time I can't. That to me is a serious flaw in PS+, because in this instance the value of the content outweighs the value of the amount of content I get from a PS+ sub.
I don't know of any digital marketplace that lets you disown a product that you've purchased.
Steam. You can disown a product, all you have to do is contact support and ask them to remove it from your games list. Though disowning a game on Steam is really for those that absolutely hate a game enough to disown it. I mean you did either buy the game from some amount of money or you got it as a gift. Since steam doesn't give away freebies that depend on a subscription fee like PS+ there is really no purpose to disowning a game on it other than being OCD about a bad game even appearing on your list.

Yeah, if you DON'T get at least $50 worth of value from PS+, that's not a problem with Sony, that's a personal problem.

Same here...the value for me is the sales, not the free games. When it's a free game i like, I consider it a bonus on top too.

i've had PS+ from the beginning. At first, i didn't get many games out of the deal because I already owned so many games (ran a very active gameshare). but I still kept PS+ because I liked the other features like auto-update, etc and got the occasional free game. then they changed gamesharing, so I stopped buying, and now it's far more likely i'll get games with plus i'll actually use.

the vita instant game collection made my day - it actually convinced me to pick up a vita on BF through amazon because i wanted so many of the games (uncharted, especially). that basically paid for my entire ps+ sub, and i've got about 3.5 years of + to go on my account (thanks target accidental sale!).

re: buying games you already got free. there's very little plus side for Sony to deal with this issue. It only affects a handful of people, and even they'd only rebuy a couple games. I mean, the example in the previous post required a situation in which someone loses their job but simply must play one specific game. The amount of work (especially testing) in regards to changing their licensing system for that small of benefit almost can't be worth it. not to mention, they'd rather you just resubscribe.

And the longer you're subscribed, the more games in your 'free' collection, so the more retro-value in keeping your sub going. Win win for all, really.

But anyway, even when I owned nearly everything, I still eeked out value. And now? It's more than paid for itself. Sony hit a home run with PS+, and turned it into a grandslam when they added the IGC and then Vita IGC.
I know this question might seem "out there" but, in the event Monster Hunter Freedom Unite (PSP) goes on sale next week, can Vita users map the camera rotation to the right analog stick? I might take a shot at it if it goes on sale but only if I can map the camera like that.
The PSP emulator offers almost every common style of camera control that can be mapped to the right stick. I think the only exceptions are those that required a button press before you could control the camera.

I believe they let you remap to the right analog stick:
Face Buttons
D-pad
Left Analog Stick
Shoulder Buttons
Start/Select
Left/Right on D-pad
Up/Down on D-pad
If you have to call CS to beg for it, then Steam doesn't really support. It needs to be a process on par with purchasing games for it to really count.
I am confused by the sale for MotorStorm RC Complete Edition - $11.99

This doesn't seem to be listed with other sale items on the PS Store. Also, there is no Plus discount like many of the other sales. Is this actually on sale? If so, does anyone know what the normal price is?
Regular price is 9.99 for the game and 2.99 x2 for the 2 DLC packs, so 16 total.
I did the same thing, bought the Walking Dead season pass after my PS+ expired. It worked fine for me.

Yo...just noticed this...

I was in the PS store's "top psn games" section. The screen with all the top games includes Tokyo jungle and the frame shows it at $10.49. When I click on the frame it then shows it at full price though. Its also full price of I add to cart. Sign of a sale next week?

Not necessarily. I've seen mispriced items in there before, like this "sale" price for BreakQuest Extra Evolution

It's not just that and Tetris prices it's also some categories in which the games have fallen into the filters some games with no online will be saying online and things like that.

Quick question, will we know about next week's sales before 12/30? Even if it's just one day ahead, I want to know if I should re-sub my PS+ and pick up a couple of games this week, but only if next week's sales have something I'll be interested in.

Maybe I'm just another outlier, but PS+ has in many instances discouraged me from spending money on games. I'm not against the exhibition of "free" games, but I'd much rather buy and keep the games i want at discounted prices. How much value one attains from the IGC is completely subjective. You can't simply assess its value at the total cost of the games given away because that assumes one would have bought those items, anyway.

As far as the vita is concerned, it just doesn't make sense to compulsively buy a game you may or may not want. How is that a good thing for a platform still attempting to gain traction? LBP, Escape Plan, and Sine Mora are all games I'd own right now if I didn't suspect they'd eventually be offered up for free. I think a lot of people felt that way about Retro City Rampage. I understand that if you really want something, you'll buy it anyway, but that's beside the point. Sound Shapes is an example of a game that I'd buy while on sale with no hesitation, despite whatever chances it has of going free. But for other new IPs, or games that I'm partly indifferent towards, I choose to do nothing. I see sooo many people saying the very same thing. It's not simply because we're "cheap", but, honestly, what's the point?

Of course, we don't have the data that Sony has at its disposal. We don't know what the attach rates or average purchase totals have been, and I suspect some of that informs their methodology. Maybe a $50 sub fee from a lot of people is better than higher average spending from a few. Again, my only concern is how this is affecting the vita. It's ironic because I think the IGC is what finally pushed a lot of people to get the vita, but now it seems like somewhat of a deterrence to buying games for it, lol. And that's exactly what it NEEDS right now to attract developers, no? *sigh*

And, sorry, everyone, I know we're not here to debate this ad nauseum.

no, i agree 100%. anytime I buy anything now i am aware ps+ could give it free next week, aka when i spent $15 to get over $100 2 months ago and then they gave quantum conundrum for free. but that's the nature of the game. i was so close to buying rcr, and excited bout $10 sale, that when it was free it was a super surprise. so i think its always all good. but yeah, it def makes me reconsider buying anything, as i was about to buy daytona usa or crazy taxi or hellz yeah for cheap sale prices this week but i didnt bite on any cuz my backlog is a monster and sega has a tendency to give ps+ games. but maybe they won't have it on ps+ ever, you really have no control over these things.

I almost agree with you breakfuss but I also have the mindset that anything I really want to play, I'll have a price point and pay it regardless of possibility of future discount - my backlog isn't huge (but is growing), so I always drop all my games for a new one that interests me. With that in mind, anything PS+ eventually offers free never is higher than a passing interest to me (or is a game I already have and the point is moot), so the value isn't that great. I draw all my PS+ value from sales on games I DID want, and there hasn't been any of those in the last couple months. Rather disappointing.

(I had PS+ from Aug-Nov, and only played 1 of the free games I got in that time, Tomb Raider and the Guardian of Light. The rest were uninteresting and so I give them no value)

It's really hard to know without the data. I'm not sure if the average is lower or not, but companies tend to like steady streams of income from things like subscriptions. Also, even if the average is lower, the margins could be higher. We have no idea how much of that $50 Sony is actually spending on things like free games. Plus there's the less tangible things like getting people more involved in checking the store each week and getting them more attached to Playstation overall.

Tokyo Jungle is one of my Top 5 games this year. It's that good. It's... not extremely polished, nor beautiful, nor anything like that... just pure solid gaming mechanics that work really well.

bought it day 1, and i'd buy it again if i had to.

re: not buying games.
I stopped buying games from PSN when gamesharing ended. Most downloadable games aren't worth 10/15 to me -- that's what i pay for aaa games used (and can then resell). tokyo jungle being the only exception in recent memory.

as for what games might be free in the future... meh, it's not worth worrying about too much. everything eventually gets cheaper. if it's worth 15 to you now, pay 15 now. if it ends up free a year from now, oh well. don't get me wrong -- i was considering RCR if it went on sale, so to get it free before i pulled the trigger was fantastic, but even if i had... that's always the risk.

also, games like Persona 4 Golden and Disgaea will almost certainly never be part of the IGC.

HOT SHOTS QUESTION -- i just played the demo. like most golf games, it just felt like 'hit x, hit x well timed, hit x, hit x well timed, etc." does it get any deeper than that? i mean, i know people swear by the game, but i just don't get it.

Definitely hope so!

Here's the pick of what's currently on the store, if anyone is interested:

Hot shot is waste of money,
JP / Asia got version 1.12 we are (EU/US) on 1.05, no DLC no extra map and an online mode sucks so much (1.07 is online update). It seems we are not going to get farther update, last update was on July of 2012.

upon that game is insanely hard late game.
you will know super back spin, front spin, and side spin, and there are few unrealistic special shots as well.

so freaking stressful
god damn it, cannot pass fucking gold level

you will end up trying yo break your ita because of Legacy of Golf level

If you want to be that reductive, then it's not that deep as far as the controls are concerned. That's kind of the point of a golf game to be simple to control, but tough to master. It's the challenges and scenarios that you're in that are where the difficulty comes into play as you deal with worse weather, better fields to try to beat, and more challenging courses to get par on. As you play with a certain character more and more, they level up and unlock more power shots and such.

I madly in love with Hot Shots Golf. I even like it when that son of a bitch Legacy course comes up on the daily tourney now. The challenges can be very challenging at times, it is a golf game (i.e. aim and hit x well timed), but it's relaxing if you're just playing for fun, it's bite sized, it's got a great atmosphere, and the interface (in terms of lie/slope/wind/etc) has really been perfected over the years.

I do wish that we would get some of the extended support of the game that Japan has seen, but I'm happy with it as it is.

PS+ is all gravy to me. I guess the way to get the most out of it is as a cheapass who really holds off buying anything until it's dirt cheap. The IGC is (thus far) entirely constituted of games I would never have purchased, but found interesting enough to download for free. I'm not the kind to go for a lot of PSN or indie style games. The AAA titles like BioShock 2 (old), Just Cause 2 (old), Warhammer (sucked), and the rest were all games I'd had more than enough opportunity to buy already if I wanted them. Walking Dead was one instance where the freebie encouraged me to spend more to get the rest of the game. Now, I can understand hesitation to buy games out of fear they may one day be given away. I guess I just don't see any of the games I'm willing to spend money on as potential candidates for a freebie. If and when I'm wrong, I'll feel some regret maybe, but it will still be a situation of "I spent money on a game I thought was worth the money when I spent it." I'm really pleased with the implementation overall.
Quick question, can Journey be played online with a friend? or is it random online multiplayer only?
I think you get paired up with a random player, I heard that one workaround would be if you and your friend start at the same time and see if you got on the same game. I'd think it would be easier now with the less active player base, but I don't know how many people are playing it.
Quick question, can Journey be played online with a friend? or is it random online multiplayer only?
It's anonymous travel only. Basically the multiplayer option is useless if you want to include people you know.

Bought the 32GB Vita card today from Best Buy after price matching Sony Store but I'm a little confused about my save files.

How do I switch cards from the 4GB to the new 32GB and keep my save files. I'm not concerned with re-downloading the actual games because I haven't downloaded much. Do I have to link my vita to my ps3 and copy everything over and back again?

You can back up the 4GB on your PS3 or PC and then just reconnect your Vita with the 32GB card in it and choose the "Restore" option.

I might be wrong because I've never done this but I believe you can hook it to your PS3 back it all up to that and then put in the 32gb and copy it all back to the Vita.

Or if you're PS Plus you could probably download it all back from the cloud (thats what I did when I upgraded my PS3 hd to 1TB). That's assuming Vita's cloud save feature is working correctly now.
