I am probably a day late to this and oblivious to the obvious nature of expiration dates, but is the promo stacking still possible? Could I buy a $50 PSN wallet card at amazon, get the PS+ year sub, and buy something to go over $50 to get both the +3 months of PS+ and $10 back?
before the store updates, yes
I tried it but I'm not a fan of the hitting mechanics. If you've previously played a version of MLB the show and like the way it plays I imagine its great to have a version on the go. I also got bored of franchise mode quickly. Just wasn't for me. And I'm a big baseball fan.
Thanks. I have no idea whether your tastes are similar to mine, but I was leaning towards not getting it anyway, so I appreciate someone helping me stay reasonable and not just buy anything because it's on sale. I suppose I would have already bought it if I had any real interest, anyway.
My only problem with plus is that you can't choose to buy the content instead of getting it for free. Some people wanted FF Tactics War of the Lions during the Final Fantasy sale but they couldn't because it was forced to the Free download. Then their subscription expired after the sale. I hope some of the games I want to "own" never get on the IGC.
Agreed, I was in that pool.

Assuming the service continues to be valuable and works similar to it's current form (which might be a big assumption until we know more about PS4), this seems like an extremely small draw back. Ideally, PS Plus will be a subscription you want until the day you die or are too old to enjoy video games, so you won't have ever needed to actually own FF Tactics.

I realize someone is going to take this comment and twist it into fanboyism, but if they do, they are missing the point.

I was actually about to ask about that. Sucks that there's no way to buy something when it's being offered for free on PS+.
This. Once I can't tolerate a game anymore or get a platinum/100% on it I could care less if it floated off to Mars and married a gargoyle. But I know some people like having everything on their shelves/entertainment centers/etc forever until their children (?) have to pack them up in boxes for an estate sale. Neat. Who cares. Either way it's not a big deal and nothing is for everyone, that's why it's good that PS+ is not (currently) a mandatory service for any functionality for PlayStation customers. It's purely a bonus, take it or don't and it'll have zero impact on your ability to enjoy a PS3 or Vita.
You know, for some reason, I've felt the need to hoard all of my PS3 retail games even though I almost never replay them and I'm realizing that when I move, it's going to be way annoying to have to pack them up. I think I should trade in all the ones I've finished and maybe even some that are still in my backlog. I'll just keep the gems like Demon's Souls.

You're not taking into account various possible scenarios. Liking the service and wanting the service aren't going to have much sway in decision making after being laid off or fired from your job. Or having some random life event that stretches your finances (wedding, new child, forced job transfer, Obamacare). Or alien abduction, being placed in a 5-year medically induced coma for a scientific study, breaking both arms while playing an intense game of Madden, etc.

During those times, you would probably like to have a stock of games that could be played without any additional cost, including that one you wish you could have bought when it was on sale back when you had money (ok, during all of those times that don't involve having two broken arms or being in a coma).
being placed in a 5-year medically induced coma for a scientific study
I hate it when that happens!!!

PS+ is about $4 a month.
Well it sucks for someone like me who wants to (overtime) build up a good library to make the Vita appealing. So in response to the guy who said now I should get a Vita soon: still not enough appealing content to convince. If I got there soon enough, I would have bought that Declassified Vita for $130 the other day.
Thats a weak argument. That's like complaining that I cant redeem free 3DS games on the eshop via nintendo.com because I dont have a 3DS yet

Has the US Store been updated yet? Still can't buy MGR on the Store. Says it disc only, but it should be going digital today according to PSU.com and Konami.

While I know you are mostly being tounge in cheek, you could argue that you can save your FF Tactics money (or other money you would have purchased games with that are already PS Plus freebies) and put them in a rainy day PS Plus subscription fund. Of course, if you are abducted by aliens, all of us CAGS might get together and chip in for a $4 a month subscription so it will be waiting for you when you get back to Earth.

Its moments like this you need to put yourself in SOMEONE else's shoes. Sony is rewarding Vita owners with a promotion that might be limited to them (Sony isn't the most reliable company, so I wouldn't be shocked if you can get them for free) as something of a thank you. Sure it sucks you're missing out and all that jazz, but I don't see how anyone can complain about a company showing appreciation for a select group by rewarding the same select group.

You think this is about the money? Far from it. This is about a sequence of events executing perfectly over the course of time. I may have paid the money for PS+ but I'm really more concerned with Sony's weekly release quality. Every game they've released through PS+ that I have purchased or hate plummets my estimation of them, the good ones I approve of merely get them back up to almost par. This fetish goes deeper than those with normal sexual appetites can comprehend. I haven't orgasmed in weeks.

Ahhh...the good ol ps plus and digital content fight. Back in my day we were just worried about blowing dust out of our game cartridges! All this new fangled subscription and digital stuff is too much fer this ol geezer. *sits in a rocking chair on the porch and makes sure kids don't play in his lawn*

I don't understand this logic. If you want to own a game then wouldn't you buy it? If you've already bought said game does it matter if it gets added to the IGC? This is like arguing that I want to pay for free food?! If I get the game and finish it before my Sub is up should I care that I can't rebuy it later at a discount? This is the worst first world problem....

Want to complain that the + symbol is yellow, but you want blue while you're at it?

After WAY too much research, I found Tactics left the IGC on 1/22. Where as the 50% off sale happened on or around 2/4 and lasted for 2 weeks. So if you didn't snag the game for free, then you would have been fine, so no... you weren't as you claimed "forced to the free download" (lets also ignore it wasn't the first sale for the game either). Even if you did download the game and were worried about losing it, you had a 2 week buffer, which was more than enough time to support these people. Finally, even if you do complain about getting screwed / missing out on the sale, how much would you really lose by resubscribing right after? Around this time the additional 3 month offer went up and shortly after this promo the $10 dollars back promo started, plus Sony sent out $10 dollars to some percentage of people... so realistically it works itself out.

Like...

Get voucher, get $10 dollars back, get 3 additional months = 30 (40 without voucher) dollars for 1 year 3 months of plus vs $10 dollars for the game. (or $5 dollars on top of your subscription, since you really want to pay extra for some sort of reason...)

I won't lie that plus could be better, but it's impossible for Sony to give you an overview of what to expect, nor is it realistic for them to implement a bunch of features for a VERY small select minority. Even if they did implement a buy feature, I am sure we will see plenty of morons accidentally purchase the game and complain back to Sony. This is most likely why they never implemented it, not a lack of foresight on their part.

While you guys were bitching, I bought San Andreas. Considering getting the Walking Dead pass to save $0.20 on the last two episodes I need, but don't really know if it'll let me do that if I've already got the first three.

To you and the other guy, I understand what they're doing. I'm not saying I think it makes less business sense or is "wrong" for them to not offer me the games for free as well. To you and especially the other guy: calm down. I'm not "bashing" the promotion or anything. I'm just saying it would have been nice if I could also "purchase" those games through the online Sony Store and have them there for when or if I buy a Vita. I'm not denouncing that loyalty promotion or anything.
What are the free ps1 games were supposed to be getting?
I'm tempted to say read the freaking OP but I'm feeling generous so here ya go:

Free for Everybody
Patapon - PSP/Vita
Patchwork Heroes - PSP/Vita
Piyotama - PSP/Vita
Wild Arms - PSP/PS3/Vita

That's the free vita exclusive offerings of which Wild Arms PS1 which is the only PS1 game offered this week. But keep in mind it's for Vita users only as it pertains to the anniversary celebration for it.
then why bother including the ps3 tag for wild arms? That's what was throwing me off
It's playable on the PS3... thats all.

I remember wanting Retro/Grade so bad, and I have just enough to get it after buying Crimson Gem Saga...I've just lost interest for some reason.

Ehh, not gonna force myself but its not like me to pass up a cheapie game I wanted to play.

So I finally took the plunge and joined PS Plus. Just got in for the free three extra months with a one year subscription. I think the fact that I will get $10 back next month in my wallet sold me.

Looking forward to grabbing some good games at discount and the free game offerings.

The promotion only lasted for six weeks, which ended with last week's update. There are no more PSM giveaways for now.
