Darkstalkers is pretty fun, but holy crap are these trophies hard. The trials are on par with the hardest from SSF4 and UMVC3, seriously.
Hoo shit, I stand corrected. Wow, this is the first I heard about this!
Don't worry about it. Nobody knew it was even being localized, let alone being released this week.
Oh shit, might have to pick up Power Stone Collection for my PSP go.
Just curious, but is it really worth getting for the PSP? I thought part of the whole point of the game is to play with other people. I'm not sure how fun it would be just going against the computer.
For anyone with the PlayStation Capital One card I just got survey for a $15 Amazon GC. Just did it, and redeemed it..
$15? They must be sending out different batches. The one I received was for a $25 amazon credit. I haven't touched my PS CapOne card since the first purchase to get the $50 initial bonus credit they offered when you apply - have you used your card at all?

My survey gave me the impression they were trying to sell me on using the card more.

How did you get the survey? was it e-mailed to you?

You can play it online against others if you have a PS3 running the AdHocParty app, though you'll need to set-up sessions on your own.
^Are these just being sent to people's emails?
indeed.
got it at the email they have on file for me, from a company called 'directions research' working for capitol one. never asked for any identifying info either, the link in the survey auto-populates a password at the survey start page, then at the end it just generates an amazon code you can redeem.

Some game called Luftrausers is coming to PS3 and Vita as well this spring. I've never heard of it, but I guess it's from the same developer that made Super Crate Box and Ridiculous Fishing.

It just awesome that every few days I open up the PS Blog and there's an announcement of a new game I've never heard of coming to PSN and/or Vita. (This, Open Me, Nun Attack, and Lone Survivor are recent ones I can think of). It's really encouraging, I feel like Sony is really starting to understand how to do digital-only distribution well, and I enjoy seeing quality mobile games and indie PC games being ported to Vita, which is the perfect platform for them.

More selection is always great, but i'm getting tired of seeing more and more retro games. This one is especially retro (looks like an old Atari game). My guess is that everyone will be burnt out on them in the near future.

I have to agree about the retro games. I love me some nes and snes games but I've played and have enough of them. There are a few select games that come out now in that style I will buy if it really appeals to me.

Does that work for PSPs that are jailbroken? My PSP doesn't detect my UMD drive being closed most of the time, so it can't read the disc. I was just transferring some PSP games from my PS3 to my Vita last night and it required the latest system update.

Wow really? I'll never get burnt out on them, as long as the gameplay is solid.

Hmm yeah I think I phrased what I said kind of wrong. To me it just seems the market is over saturated with retro games right now. But I do agree with you if the gameplay is there I always give it a second glance. Just more picky these days with the style, especially with my mile long backlog lol.

Yeah I agree it's nice to see more and more games coming. I'm not interested in all of them but it's nice to have more choice and at different price points. Nun Attack looks pretty fun for $3 to me. It seems like lately Sony is the only company getting back to focusing on games and gamers. PS + has been great for me with the PS3 and VITA. With so much to play and not enough time to play it all, if they keep it up I might be in the Sony only camp next gen. I've been thinking of going 1 system only. This might push me that way.

It kind of seems like there are two sides to this though...retro games and retro minded games that don't conform to the limitations of yesteryear. A good example is shovel knight which was just on blogs...looks retro but looks to have updated gameplay mechanics. Sony should court them as they were looking to put the game on the 3DS.

I would have chipped in $15 towards Shovel Knight if they had announced they were working on a PSN or XBLA version. I think it looks awesome.

Obviously, it's all personal preference and I don't criticize anyone for what they like. When I think of gaming, I want an immersive experience like current AAA style titles bring. Perhaps that makes me less of a true gamer.

That being said, I do enjoy some smaller or simpler games, but I still don't get the appeal of making them look like they did in the '80s or '90s. Nostalgia is pretty superficial and passing in my opinion. Sure i'd love to own my first car again, but i'd never want to drive it because my car now is significantly better.
Odd, you're right. It's definitely not showing up on the Vita store. It's still on the download list though, so you should be able to grab it there.
Will have to it from that then. Weird, as it was there prior to the last update.

still up at the web store for purchase... odd it vanishes from the vita store..

The visual style doesn't matter to me, at least within reason, as long as it plays well.

Received a email from Sony.

I figured out why Tecmo Koei released the Atelier game on Vita without any prior warning. This is from their European press release about its launch:

Tecmo Koei Europe is pleased to announce today the upcoming release of Atelier Totori Plus: the Adventurer of Arland as a download only title for the PlayStation®Vita on March 20th.

Make sure you read that sentence carefully to see the stupidity of that announcement.
Thanks for the mini-review! I was a huuuuge fan of Battleheart when it first came out, so I did eye this game a bit; but without a better means of character customization or even auto-attack, I'm not sure if I'd like it.
i played a bit more yesterday and will be playing more later, but i can fill out that review some.

killing the first 'boss' unlocks being able to have a 3rd character on the screen. i'm sure i'll unlock the 4th soon.

character customization --

Each character has 5 weapons, but you need to progress in the story to unlock each one. Each of these weapons can be upgraded for gold several times (I haven't hit a limit yet). Upgrades are pretty expensive. Each weapon isn't necessarily 'better', which is nice -- each weapon has a side effect (ie, slow monsters) so you might prefer, say, the 3rd weapon over the 5th for a given character.

So far, and i'm still fairly early on, each character has only a single skill (and a different weapon set, so you've got a brute, a sniper, a fast attacker, and a healer). Examples of character skills include -- turn invisible, create decoy, heal aura. A shame there's no skill progression, but i suppose there is a slight chance (doubtful) they'll introduce that later.

However, you can find miracles (and unlock miracle slots) that give universal skills available at any time. unfortunately, you need to pay to recharge these (another remnant of old iap grinding, lol).

if you really enjoyed Battleheart, i think you'll have enough fun with this to warrant $3 (mostly because it's nice to pop trophies, lol). It's a decent time killer. Sadly, it's definitely not (at least, so far) an improvement on Battleheart... it's actually a step back in a few places as i've mentioned (lack of character skill tree and inventory, most obviously - and even having more characters than just 4 nuns). But it's not a bad game.

Oh, and there seem to be 40 or 50 stages (can't remember offhand), with a major boss every 10. Each stage also has several actual battles. Basically, each stage has it's own mini-map minigame, with a couple battles -- you need to deal with some things shooting at you, grab treasure chests, and beat each (marked) battle. I don't know how complicated this gets yet, but at the end of the first boss, you're looking at 2-3 battles per stage, so there is a lot of content in that regard.

:applause: I laughed.
dead or alive 5+ really feels great on the vita

Great game, I've been enjoying it.

Vita seems to be getting a lot of Indie love and support -- according to interviews i've read, Sony seems to always be pretty good to them, and they're responding in kind. That makes me happy.

I'm pretty sure I bought Lone Survivor on Steam already, but i never play PC games so I'll definitely pick it up on Vita too since i'll actually play it there.

Oh, and Luftrausers looks pretty amazing to me, but i love dual stick shooters. Looks like a modern take on Time Pilot.

I'm also quite pleased with the indie love on the Vita! I have a 3DS too, and while this may be subjective, I think the 3DS has more of the type of normal retail games I like (Super Mario 3D Land, Rhythm Thief, FF Theatrhythm, Fire Emblem). However, I don't really like the eShop on any Nintendo platform, and overall I like the Vita hardware much more (3D effect is a dumb gimmick that gives me headaches). Even if a lot of the larger publishers are afraid of the Vita for now, I hope this big push by indie developers sells more systems to show other publishers that they can trust that they will have a market.

Oh, and I love Vlambeer games (Ridiculous fishing, Super Crate Box).

One thing I do wish the Vita PSN store could learn from the 3DS eshop: I wish all games had at the very least images/screenshots, and preferably a trailer video. Nearly all 3ds eshop games have trailers.

I've been addicted to Dokuro for the last couple hours. This game is so charming, and so far it hasn't gotten stale! It's very good about introducing new wrinkles in the puzzles and new abilities for the main character. Is this one of the better puzzle game exclusives for the Vita? How are games such as Escape Plan compared to this one?

I know I'm going to get eaten alive for this, because you can't express a difference of opinion in this thread, but I don't really like Dokuro. I'm finding it pretty boring so far. Granted I'm only on stage 4, so maybe it just starts out slow? So far I've just been disappointed. I'll still finish it, since it seems like a pretty easy game trophy wise.

Troll.

Not really, but you are the first person I've heard say they haven't enjoyed it. I really don't think it starts out all that slowly, so if you're not enjoying it now I don't think it's going to grow on you. The trophies are pretty easy for the most part, I felt like the only tough one was the boss run without being hit. All the bosses have easy patterns to detect, but when you have to fight 5 in a row there's always a good chance of screwing up once and having to start the whole thing over.

Please don't think I'm saying I hate it (I realize neither of your said that, just want to be clear.) It's just boring me and not living up to the level I was expecting. I'm hoping those no damage trophies give a challenge, so at the very least it'll give me a good run at the end.
I got both Dokuro and Escape Plan, and they're fairly different styles of games. I liked Dokuro much better, mostly because you have direct control over your character, and it has a certain charming style. Escape Plan you have two chars that you don't have direct control over -- you send them to a particular spot, or tap a valve to make them investigate it, etc. It's more puzzle-y, but what ultimately annoyed me was the over-use of touch controls (particularly rear touchpad and pinching controls) combined with indirect control over the chars, which resulted in a lot of cheap deaths.

Didn't like it at all, it just wasn't for me. I'll admit that I'm absolutely awful at adventure games and I don't like them. I got stuck right away and just quit. I looked up the solution and I'd say it was mostly my fault for not figuring it out. Still, I wasn't about to go any deeper in a game where I couldn't figure out one of the first puzzles.

Just found out The Cave had no online co-op. Woooooooow.
I was looking forward to another Trine 2-like experience with my 2 cousins, but I guess not.

Seems pretty lazy to me considering you can do local co-op.
